For people want to get in on Higurashi the manga is also a pretty good alternative to the visual novel. As people said before the anime is not that good of a adaptation, you know you messed up a adaptation when you have to make a brand new arc to the anime because you took alot of stuff out of the first episodes that were important to solve the mistery.
