The problem is there is still a bias in favor of white quarterbacks at many levels so you end up with fewer great QBs in the NFL. That would happen with any position. If people thought white people were better defensive ends, you'd have fewer great defensive ends in the NFL.

So, end racism, problem solved.

To be fair, QB opinions vary wildly year to year, and given your previous assertion of "taking their whole career into account" I can understand your rankings.

But given present-day ability, your list is broken as gently caress.

Right now, we have:

Great:
Aaron Rogers
Cam Newton
T*m Br*dy
Ben Roethlisberger

Really Good/Above Average
Phillips Rivers
Joe Flacco - I'll give this to you OBERST. But just this loving once.
Carson Palmer - He's earned it. The Cards offense hums when he's under center.
Drew Brees - He's still got some loving HoF Juice, but he's coming back down to earth in his old age.
Russel Wilson - He flashes great, but I think you'll find that he's actually just really good.

Adequate
Tony Romo - He's broken as gently caress and probably done.
Matt Ryan - He's broken and his weaknesses are masked by the offensive scheme. His deep ball is almost completely gone and he has a hard time hitting receivers in stride. The number of passes thrown behind receivers is maddening.
Matt Stafford - He's got a cannon arm and a lot of heart, but he's just not loving above average.
Eli Manning - His Superbowl rings are luck and lucky, and mostly propped up by his defense.
Andrew Luck - He took too many hits, expectations for him should be back down to earth.
Andy Dalton - He has too many bad games to be considered above average.
Ryan Fitzpatrick - He's dependable, but also not great. He'll get the job done. He's the definition of adequate.
Alex Smith - See Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Jay Cutler - He doesn't loving CAAAAAAAAAAAAAARE, but I mean, he's got talent.
Kirk Cousins - He's got upside, I guess, but If we had a below average cat, I'd put him there.
Ryan Tannehill - He flashes some ability, but I think ultimately, he's just not able to make W's happen on his own.
Sam Bradford - See fuckin' Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Blake Bortles *
Jameis Winston*
Derek Carr *
Marcus Mariotta*

***That ship has sailed, these guys are adequate QB's. Possible really good inc for Derek.

Too Early to say
Teddy Bridgewater - He's just been hurt too much.

Way Too early to say
Carson Wentz
Brock Osweller
Dak Prescott
Trevor Seiman
Paxton Lynch
Jared Goff
Jimmy Garapolo

Complete poo poo/Hopeless
Case Keenum
Mark Sanchez (is he in the league?)(Yes... yes he is)
Blaine Gabbert
RG3
Shaun Hill

I think you need another category between adequate and complete poo poo. You could call it "bad" or "crap" and move names down from adequate like Fitzpatrick, Cousins, and Tannehill.

Also, I think you can move Wentz up into the "Really Good/Above Average" category. It's been 2 games!

v I concur

I've always wondered what the one most consistent stat is for winning teams versus losing ones. Obviously it's PPG vs. PPGA, overall, but what translates into that? I'd guess it's turnover differential and yards per play differential.

I think it's the W/L%

BiggerBoat posted:

NFL stats can be weird to make sense of in a vacuum. "Total Yards Allowed (or gained)", which is how the NFL rates offense and defense, can be deceiving because teams that are up big give up a lot of garbage yards and trailing teams gain a lot of them.

Like how it's hard for Carson Wentz to put up big numbers when he's always up by two touchdowns in the 4th quarter :smug:
