Unless this is the Greg 'b' team working on this whilst his 'a' team either work on the next Banshee successor, or a porn film just with close ups of a limp penis trying to be folded (like a piece of rope/cord) into a waiting vagina. What I'm basically saying is that maybe the b team made the last of us, while the a team are working on the next uncharted mega smash follow up to Banshee.

... What?

I'm basically trying to say that Quarry (albeit highly loving unlikely) is a 'b tier' show, because Greg is actually focusing most of his a tier creative powers on crafting an even better spiritual successor to Banshee.

The sex scenes in this show are also awful, unlike Banshees' for some reason (it was a great show).

As I mentioned before, I haven't watched Banshee, however if anyone else has ever seen it, this show reminds me a lot of Magic City: all efforts seem to have gone into costume, with little effort afforded to the writing or acting.

Just caught up with episodes 6 & 7 and I'm still enjoying it. Buddy's business plan was hilarious, as was him giving candy to the kids :3: Only one episode left, I forgot it wasn't a 10 episode season. Have we heard anything about a 2nd season?

This is more in line with True Detective S1 than Banshee imo. A slow burn with sparse but brutal action separated by a lot of character work and a lot of beautiful camerawork. Existential crisis stuff, impending doom stuff, people acting their asses off, lot of attention paid to period work. Tension. The music. Great loving show.

Sometimes I wonder when goons feel the need to do this and then let everyone know how they hate the show so much that they watched like 95% of it, if all of them also post on IMDB. You know the type--the ones who go to the message boards of every TV show and movie they couldn't stand and give their badly reasoned bad opinions on it as if the world revolves around them. That, or as if the fact that they are like the twentieth person to post about how bored they were watching the entire series is going to be the final nail in the coffin of a popular television show. It's not like the producers and writers read them and scratch their heads and go, "Well, poo poo, Mike, guess we better SHUT 'ER DOWN..."

I'm not quite sure I agree with that sentiment. Not all the side characters were really worth their screentime and the show midseason felt simultaneously rushed and plodding.

I do think this show can build tension better than most horror/suspense stuff can

So you expect people to just sit around for eight months of the year (or whatever) and wait for production to start up again? The director said he will be involved, but that he won't direct all episodes again.

I'll miss the direction, but it seems like the show had a lot of production difficulties, with the original pilot shot 4 years ago. Dunno how good these HBO shows are at coming back if not immediately renewed.

As impressive as the finale is, I think my favorite episode is still the second, followed by the first.

Oct 28, 2007

I got around to watching the last 3 episodes this week.

Overall, I think the pacing in this show is my cup of tea but it isn't for everyone. I liked most things about this show right down to the score (great tension builder).

The finale was excellent other than some things I thought were unresolved or were just red herrings to the plot, and other things I felt at least weren't explained enough. As a veteran I was saddened at the scene in which Joni is talking to a VA counselor about Mac, and his PTSD is disregarded as a problem because his wounds weren't physical, and no one understood back then the impact that PTSD has on people. And finally, I really liked that they didn't really get into Mac's time in Vietnam until the last episode--they could easily have devoted an entire episode that was just Mac in Vietnam (a lot of other shows might have done that), but they instead presented it as him remembering just that one mission, and in intermittent scenes. I'm glad that they did it this way since the show isn't about his time in Vietnam, it's about his present troubles as a result of that.

And yeah the sex scenes mostly seemed unnecessary, at least the quantity of them.

Hey guys I heard this show got cancelled.

I'm currently watching Hap and Leonard, it reminds me of Quarry only it's more fun and has James Purefoy, Michael K Williams, and that hot curvy red head from Madmen in it, recommending it in case you need a fix.

It'll probably get cancelled too, since it's mediocre despite everyone doing their best with what they're given.

Nope, renewed for a second season. Hap and Leonard, I mean. Quarry's probably cancelled.

(On the other hand, Strike Back reboot / "continuation" only without any of the cast... not sure how I feel about that. Wait and see, I guess...)
