Unless they've been raised wrong they are great with people and kids, but it is a breed trait that they are dog-agressive. They are likely to attack strange dogs unprovoked, and this is also dangerous for any people who may try to break up the ensuing rumble. What now?

Good friend had to have leg surgery and will forever have a limp. His pit bull and his daughter's pit bull (dogs were siblings btw) hadn't seen each other in a year or so. One viciously attacked the other, and when my buddy tried to break it up his own dog savaged his leg.

Carmant posted:There are other breeds that are much more likely to be dog aggressive pits probably dont evne make the top 10. Not surprising considering there are no breeding standards and most "pit bulls" are just mutts with big heads anyway So? Tons of pit bull owners create dangerous situations because they're so invested in demonstrating to the world what BIG SWEETIES! their dogs are. If they were educated and took the proper precautions this wouldn't be such an issue. But, you know.

The dogs I told the story about earlier were AKC registered American Staffordshire Terriers, btw, not just random big-headed dogs.

Carmant posted:Oh the story of the retarded owner who tried to break up a dog fight with his leg, where the breed of hte dogs isn't relevant at all? Sucks that your friend didn't die. Yeah, gently caress that guy who reflexively tried to stop two dogs he loved from mauling each other.

Also, how is the breed of the dogs not relevant? They were raised together ffs. One went for the others throat, not a friendly scuffle. How often do you see that sort of thing with wheaten terriers?

My Q-Face posted:Rule one of a dog fight is that if you interfere you will get shredded regardless of the breed of dog. Can't really argue with that. Point is these dogs were litter mates raised together for most of their lives, and they tried to kill each other for no apparent reason after being apart for less than a year.
