Carillon posted:For my fellow goons here, Groupon's running a decent little promotion if you're interested in checking out Izzy's, dinner for 2 for 72 bucks. https://www.groupon.com/deals/izzy-s-steaks-and-chops-san-fran Thanks for sharing this; I used to work right next to the San Carlos location (by the SC airport) but never went. This is a good excuse to give it a shot. Others, note that this Groupon is only for the San Francisco location; there's a separate one for San Carlos: https://www.groupon.com/deals/izzy-s-steaks-and-chops-san-carlos-2

I used to go to Merv's almost daily when I lived in MV; originally it was just the closest place with AC and wifi that was open late, but I took a liking to it. My favorite Merv's story: I once ordered a white russian there, and the bartender made it with those little Mini Moos creamer cups. I of course told many people about this, but apparently it was just a one-time thing as they were out of actual cream. Still sums up the bar pretty well. It changed ownership ~5 years ago, and I've only been a couple times since. Last time was I think in 2015, and they had at least replaced the booth seating. Bees on Wheat posted:*not an exaggeration. I used to know some of the bouncers for that nightclub, and I worked there briefly before deciding I value my life. Fights often spilled into that alleyway and I saw people leave on stretchers on more than one occasion. Is that the Monte Carlo nightclub? An old friend's dad was a MV firefighter, and the Monte Carlo was notorious for fights and bizarre injuries. Stabbings? Sure. Head blow with a cinder block? That too. I tried to go there once, about a decade ago. They wanted a $20 cover. Yeah right, for that place? Capn Jobe fucked around with this message at 01:47 on Jun 6, 2018 |

Carillon posted:Harry's Hofbrau in SJ is closing. Redwood City one is still up but that's still a bummer, it's been around a long time. That's a shame; it was an old fixture of when the Bay Area was still weird. For some strange reason, historically in this area, 'Hofbrau' referred to that kind of cafeteria-style carvery place. There were a few in SF until not so long ago (not Harry's, but the same style). My friend's dad used to have meetings for the local Volkswagen owners club at the one in Mountain View. Did anything ever end up happening with the old Garden City casino building near there? I know it was a concert venue for like a day, but I haven't been by there in awhile.
