Sometimes there are posts here on sex and gender, although I never use the word "trans" when talking about early modern Europe because that comes from a society that has different views of these things than they did. Anyway, a woman named Marie Garnier in the 16th century was female until the age of 22, when he suddenly turned into a man. The reason this is relevant to this thread is that he had to be rebaptized, of course.

nah steer clear of those fuckers. best case scenario they're loving insufferable, worst case scenario is they're white nationalists.

remember this is a religion where an explicit doctrine is "think that you personally are the worst of sinners and judge nobody else" and not draw attention to yourself. these dudes might be actually sinning with what they do.

Sure, it's very intimate and important but also takes up a small fraction of our time.

edit: I'm not saying sexual issues are unimportant, just that many churches put an incredibly disproportionate emphasis on them over other more immediate concerns.
When I read things from the Fathers, they almost never care about this. Why the change? Maybe it was so the laity could feel involved in the 19th century? Maybe for secular reasons relating to the development of the 19th century state, I know that the concept of "the homosexual" developed around this time as something opposed to the traditional gender roles which were supposed to uphold the state.

In any case, it reads as extremely 19th century to me.
