Different players suit different styles of play and average players frequently out perform good ones. I sold Cheol for 9k. So you can still make coins off of non rare gold cards. Keep that in mind. Gambling on the marquee matchups seems like a good way to get burned. I'll probably avoid it. I qualified for the weekend league in my second try. I think I lost 1-0 in the finals the first time. This game is becoming increasingly unfun the better people get/the more there is at stake. The defense really needs to be reworked as it stands because "counter attack" is ruining everything. Counter attack this year has basically zero risk for a huge upside. In previous editions you'd be allowing a lot of build up play/dribbling outside your box which obviously should be dangerous. This year you have your iron curtain defense never caught out of position and they don't give up goals because they are far too capable of stamping out any close passing or dribbling near the box. Going one goal up then playing counter attack + defensive basically grants you a win. Interceptions need to be dialed up a decent amount and defenders should not magnetically win the ball after touching a player. It's a simple balance between interceptions and tackling that they hosed up last year by making everyone Kante so this year they decided to go completely in the other direction and make everyone Maldini. The only formations I'm playing now have wingers because at least they are still fun and dribbling is a less tedious way of breaking down counter attacking rather than making 1,000 passes and hoping you draw the opponent out. Two things I noticed. heads up dribbling is back after the patch and probably the best thing you could learn right now. Bust it out in the middle of a sprint and you can juke defenders really hard. People haven't caught onto it yet. It's really great for lateral movement and ok for backwards. Also since I was getting frustrated with how people were playing I experimented with some new play styles. The 51212 on counter attack with your wing backs set to "always overlap" is a lot of fun and takes everyone off guard. If you don't do counter attack your 3 cbs will be too close together if the opponent makes a break (you'll be playing most of the game defending with 3 cbs as the wing backs are always up the pitch). The wing backs make really good runs and confuse people and the formation gives you lots of opportunity to make long passes in space. I'm 6-1 in the weekend league and this poo poo is still frustrating. Counter attacking is sucking the life out of the game. I'll stop at either 8 wins or 11 for the rewards. I don't know how people have time to play all these games. The time frame is poo poo for people in the US. It should go through into monday a bit.

It's not even the counter attacking part of counter attacking that is the main issue. It's the fact that their entire line and CDM are always in perfect position under that tactic. I said earlier it's zero risk huge reward. Giving up space for build up play doesn't matter this year when your defense will stop any run and block any shot. Most goals in this edition come from exploiting a defender out of place instead of dribbling or playing smart passes like previous years. With counter attack the defenders are never out of place. Also even heading is becoming more difficult. Normally people use full backs to build up play offensively but more and more people have them set to stay back and on counter attack which means it's becoming increasingly harder to swing in a cross as full backs are always right on your wingersand defenders deflect nearly everything. e- I have no regrets using my gimmicky 5 atb because it confuses people and absolutely shits on counter attacks Seltzer fucked around with this message at 18:59 on Oct 23, 2016 |

This is an aside but I'm 8-3 in the weekend league at the moment. Is it me or does the Silver 3 rewards (what I'll get) look better than Silver 2? 10,000 coins, 1 x Premium Gold Players pack, 2 x Jumbo Premium Gold packs vs 15,000 coins, 1 x Mega pack, 1 x Rare Gold pack. I think the "worse" reward looks better Imo. I'll probably stop at 8 wins.

IF Modeste is a better Diego Costa for only 18k. Really solid buy. When talking him up earlier I forgot to mention he has the finesse shot trait which is make or break for players finishing finesse shots this year imo. Last year it didn't matter cause everyone could hit them, this year you need the trait or a poo poo ton of curve. It's the safest way to finish a 1 on 1 if your striker has the trait. I also got IF Florenzi because I like my 5atb team a lot and he's made for the wingback position. Since he can play literally anywhere on the pitch he's going to serve as my super sub from now on in every squad as well. This week IF Keita looks crazy and will probably bump Goretzka out of my Bundesliga squad. Kalinic is the sleeper pick of the lot though. 96 positioning with 91 finishing is crazy for a card that will be basically discard. Put engine on him and he'll be really good. Does anyone have a halloween card/thinking about getting one? I'm going to wait til after the event is over to buy any of the cards I want. I'm hoping it will be a rise and then big decline. I might get screwed by waiting though.

Yeah all it's all anecdotes but whenever I play against Kante he's a pest. One of the few player who can actually intercept the ball this year. Kalinic offers better physical attributes and passing for worse pace and dribbling (which is a fine trade off for a target man). But since Kalinics shooting and physical stats are so good I just put engine on (+pac, pas, dri) and he's very very good. I'm dribbling through defenses with ease now somehow (even better than when I had sniper on Immobile). Give him a try if you have a serie A team. Elite run making and finishing for 12k is a steal. I actually don't put stay central on him like I do most solo forwards because his runs are good enough that he doesn't get out of place. Also if Matuidi let you down give Verratti a try. He's a similar make of player but with elite dribbling and playmaking to make up for getting bullied sometimes. He was a standout for me last year. For the record I use get in behind and press the back line on Kalinic otherwise he can drop back more than i'd like with his workrates. Doesn't matter much though in the 4411 I have because you should be using a CF who can score.

Apparently a bunch of people got banned this week for coin selling/buying because of buying/selling lovely bronzes and silvers for 10k. That was the way that coin sellers used to move coins but apparently, EA introduced SBCs, something that they have to have known would cause this sort of buying and selling, but they didn't change their algorithm for finding "cheaters". I'm way up on packs from sbcs this year. I bought Halloween Akinfenwa because I like trashing people with odd/low level cards and teams. I built a standard EPL squad around him though (walcott LW naturally). I got him today because I think most of the halloween cards are actually at their lowest now as everyone undercut eachother majorly yesterday and today. He was 100-150k all week and I got him today for 75k. I know he's bronze but I only see the card increasing in the future because of the novelty. I got the halloween sneijder card as well for 40k, I might lose a little on that one but I thought he would be fun to use this weekend in a false 9. I'm gonna do the big man dance on everybody and rack up some rage quits.

I'm 6-2 right now. Going to hit 8 then stop. Busy again. 8 will get me silver for the month. I wish I had more time to play this because my record has been pretty good. Haloween Akinfenwa is a lot of fun. He does somehow feel noticeably stronger than players like Modeste. He has a weird trait that I haven't seen on many strikers which is "backs into player". It's actually really cool he often stops his runs to back down a player to receive a ball which can be good or bad. It means less options to pick out a through ball but he allows an outlet to pass around the box that a lot of strikers don't and his shield the ball doesn't get broken with his strength and balance. Also for some reason he wins like 90% of headers from kick off despite being 5'10. I think the backs into player has something to do with it. It'll be a bummer when the boosts go because with the 80 pace he's crazy. Not better than IF Modeste or anything but he provides a really fun and different way of playing. Halloween Sneijder is the best CAM/CF I've used however. Best shooting I've used yet, 5* weakfoot, and he now has 80 strength which was always one of his big weaknesses. I have him in a false 9 and he's doing awesome with super average players around him. Both cards are up from when they bought them so I hope I don't lose coins despite there being a risk. Those two formations on attacking are still a lot more fun than a 41212 on counter attack though.

Has anyone got even close to scoring a freekick this year? I'll hit 1 bar 25 yards out with someone with 85 fk accuracy and it will still fly all over the place. Also How is bellarabi as a RW? I have Traore there atm and he's the only big weakpoint in the squad.

I picked up 3 lovely gold movember cards for 15k. I don't see there not being a SBC for them since they have next to no worth as it stands and new SBCs are due tomorrow when the halloween ones all end. Either there will be an amazing card and I'll cash in or they will all shoot up to 60k and I'll cashout (or nothing will happen and I'll look stupid). I also got a welsh 11 with some golds in there for dirt cheap and liverpool, swansea and stoke players banking on Joe Allen winning the player of the month award. I'm not gonna pretend to know how that award is picked but fan votes only account for 10%. I think Allen had a better month than hazard especially considering the context but again I could look like a fool on that but I got everything cheap. Movember Gomis isn't half bad for the record.

I gave Menez a try the other night based on advice here. He's definitely really really good and is a perfect example of a card that plays way above it's rating. Unfortunately,I didn't like the rest of the squad so I'm sidelining him for now. Speaking of cards that play above their rating, there has to be something wrong with Renato Sanches card. "Stats in good places" does not explain the whole story, his interceptions and tackling/positioning to tackle is nearly unrivaled when I play against him yet his marking is 72, interceptions 80, standing tackle is 71. It does not add up at all. Anyways, every time I get too many coins I spend it on stupid poo poo. I'm going to buy IF Al Soma now because his card looks awesome and he was great for me last year. A player that tall and strong with 4* skills is extremely rare and fun to use. Too bad all the good Saudi players got downgraded this year. Weekend league is definitely easier than qualifying or divisions. It might be because I put zero pressure on myself because I gently caress around with dumb teams and don't care that much because I'm not going to finish 40 games in three days and I'm not obsessed with getting a certain rank. I'm sure a lot of people I'm playing are concerned about those things and play worse because of it. Also you get like 12 chances at getting in a week. I would only try 4 times max if I was struggling then give up but I guarantee tons of people only care about weekend league qualification and even if they're really bad the odds of qualifying over 12 or so tries is pretty good. I sold most of my expensive stuff and players I don't use for Black Friday. I'm holding onto all my bundesliga cards and all my EPL cards though (EPL is used in like every other squad builder so that pays to wait). Hoarding all the cards you don't use for SBCs is ok but I just get tired of waiting and stuff clogging up my club. Most SBCs have been adjusted to be easier/less predictable recently and have been cheap to do so waiting to use cards seems extra pointless now. I have 5 movember cards just sitting though. Two golds at discard, Fletcher for my scottish team at 10k and I packed one bronze one and bought another bronze one for 2.5k BIN. They haven't done any boosts to the cards or required them for anything yet, but I honestly can't see them not becoming more important. My guess is they let the cards out there for awhile without anything going on so they're affordable before they announce anything as to avoid a scenario like halloween where the cards were all 80k for most of the event. The one dicey investment I might make is picking up a OTW Dembele card. It's steadily dropped to about 60k. He's having an ok season nothing spectacular but his card would be great if he got an IF.

I qualified for the WL again but there were so many bad goals for both me and my opponent it was a joke. I scored a 90 degree volley with De Rossi after he assisted himself by bouncing the ball off his shoulder and I scored a near post longshot by accident. My opponents goals were even shittier some how. I'll probably not have time to play much again though, I got 5 games in last time and went 3-2. The game feels a bit different now. At least in the qualifying tournaments. It felt like attacking was easier for both parties? It might be because I sold my IF defenders and went to a 41212(2) with pacey strikers. I finally set both of them to get in behind and press the backline and it made a world of difference. I've stayed away from tactics for the most part besides stay back on CDMs and stay central on STs in a 433. I guess I should mess around with it a bit more. Anyways to all Bundesliga users this card looks like a sleeper pick. http://www.futhead.com/17/players/50823/kevin-vogt/ CDM to CB change. He has high dribbling and passing for a CB and despite his average defending he's quick, 6'4 ,and strong. I think with sentinel he might kick Sokratis out of my squad. The high/high on Sokratis is annoying and Toprak is just a lot better for me so he's staying. Toprak's 5* weakfoot and 75 short pass is really great on top of his other stats.

They added two new league SBCs, Ligue 1 and Pro league. It means my hunch was right, they will keep rolling these out and they will likely do one big league and one smaller league each time. I assume La Liga and EPL will be the last ones. Hopefully Bundesliga is next but I don't know if EA wants to unleash an Aubameyang card into the wild yet. I'm seriously debating stocking up on Serie A and Turklig squads during black friday now. Both will be cheap. An all Juve squad doesn't even cost that much. Bayern was harder.

I packed nainggolan who sells for a cool 40k and I got a ton of sellable golds in all the other packs. Overmars is very good but the weirdest part is how good he is at dribbling. People always talk about how legends play above their stats and overmars definitely does, at least when it comes to the dribbling. He has this weird trait/feature where he's able to change directions drastically while dribbling without slowing down at all, it's not agility he actually has a special animation that I have not seen on any other player. I have Thiago with 89 dribbling in my team and Overmars is better at 88. I'll try to show what I'm talking about in a .gif but it's hard to describe and makes dribbling so much easier. Really lovely .gifs but you can get the idea. In this first one he turns 45 degrees with the ball without pausing. That's not a scoop turn  Same Idea here. The first and third jukes on the defender he is doing the no delay turning with the ball move before the assist.  Picking him up honestly might be worth the coins because his ability to move unlike any other player is devastating and game changing. Shame about no 4 star skills though. The move is hard to describe, it has the same effect as a scoop turn but requires no input, is quicker, and keeps the ball closer to the player. Lastly I was looking for players to link to Al Soma and when I found out the guy with the third best long shots in the game was a Saudi League silver I naturally converted him into a CAM and made a hybrid. For the silver thing just pick up pacey and or good 72-74 silvers and they will double and even triple in price. It's that simple. I won't flat out tell you who I picked but you should figure out enough to make coins yourself. Futbin even shows you how hard silvers spiked last time they were a requirement.

I've just been really busy each weekend. 40 games is too much even with the extended time. I only managed 5-3 this time. EA should just drop it to 20 games. I think most people would be in favor of that. I guarantee EA is burning people out on their game having them chase the reward carrot over 40 games. Even if I had nothing to do friday saturday and sunday I still don't want to play 40 games of fifa.

I'm going to wait until the one nation requirement comes up to try and qualify. I don't really do one league squads. The one I have (Bundesliga) is good but I'm finding the formation more and more frustrating as the game has tilted towards defensive/counter attack. Alonso's ability to split players with passes and drop amazing long balls doesn't really matter any more when the opponent concedes you the midfield and has their fullbacks back marking any deep runs from wingers. Wingers in general are starting feel worthless as well. I'm using them more as a distraction rather than to cross for a header or actually, you know, scoring a goal. I could mess with custom settings some more but wingers just flat out feel like a disadvantage in this version of the game. I'm gonna give a French 41212(2) a runout with Menez, Dabo, Ben Yedder and co. Ben yedder helped me qualify last week and is quality. I also picked up IF Nzonzi on the cheap to play as a CDM. His stats are outrageous and looks like a perfect fit for the position. Despite maintaining a 2-1 win loss ratio the state of the game right now is starting to wear on me. It's become the negative football simulator 17 and they really need to patch that. With Nba2k17 dropping to 30 bucks this week I might get off fifa for awhile. If anyone has a custom tactics/formation that allows you to play attacking football all game without being at a severe disadvantage let me know. Breaking down the permanently locked in place back four is a chore already, having to set myself on counter attack and play boring formations in order to win is adding to the annoyance. Remember in fifa 13 and 15 when you could play in a variety of formations with all types of players and win?

Made mint on my first trading tip. I sold a ton of 350 coin players for 1.8-2.5k. I even bought a few Eder's to see if my example tip was right. I bought a few for 600 sold for 1500, not bad. Now to blow it all on IF Bolasie and IF Martinez.

The monthly rewards dropped..... I got silver for the month and pulled dwight gayle. Cool I guess but I'm never going to get to gold cards since I just won't play the amount of games required. Can't complain about the free card though.

I got two separate messages accusing me of handicapping because I beat people with my Saudi hybrid squad that has a whole 4 silvers in the team and an all gold bench. I think my gimmick squads work for a couple reasons, your opponent thinks you're better than you are and put too much pressure on, they don't know your players stats and attributes because they only build/see EPL squads and can't mark your players correctly, and I'm playing mostly for fun. I beat the one nationality qualifier first time of asking with a french squad. To whoever recommended Dabo, good call. A very very nice card. I only found his balance and sometimes passing to be an issue but he popped up at least twice for goals and was very defensively sound. IF Nzonzi is awesome and has excellent passing stats which I like on a CDM. I think I might solely stick to attempting the qualifiers with restrictions, they're more fun to play and easier to qualify in. It punishes the crowd that only use a 90 pace EPL squad and squad fitness items every other game. Speaking of silvers the reward Gayle card I got is actually really good and I'll definitely put him in some squads.  4 goals in the first game (my opponent was poo poo).
