LostRook posted:Apparently, watching this makes you a monster: that article posted:Who was the suit, on the 11th floor of some glassy, gilded skyscraper, who bypassed several security officers, took an elevator to a sterile meeting room, sat down with his well-groomed colleagues and assistants and announced, “Yes, definitely. We would love to produce a fighting anime about women smashing their asses and tits together. Very good, tremendous potential here”? I feel like her impression of the anime industry is not entirely accurate. Though the idea of animation studios consisting of a bunch of suits in fancy skyscrapers with heavy security is pretty amusing.

As funny as it is to imagine animators going through several levels of security in giant skyscrapers, I should probably point out that Warner Bros. is apparently a big part of the production committee for Keijo!!!!!!!! and their Japan headquarters is in just that sort of building, so there's at least a kernel of truth to that even if by accident.

I'd imagine Warner Bros. doesn't even care about the subject. They'd just look at the manga sales, demographic numbers and who out of their stable of seiyuu/idols/etc. should be slotted into the project. The most they might see is the cover of a tank and maybe the promo image and otherwise give it a sterile and agnostic treatment to it. The only person in the board room who'd even care about it beyond a financial persepctive would be any secret otaku or people on the direct staff.

Jesus, I just read the Kotaku article. The author is so perplexed that there are not only people who manage to feel indifferent about a show, but that everyone doesn't immediately band together, bring out the torches and do everything in their power to keep everyone else from enjoying it. I like how she has a moment of weakness and admits that the characters actually have depth to them, but her honor code forbids her from liking this with bikinis in them.

Kotaku are wrong on a lot of things, and Butts of Babylon is one of them. Nothing to see here

I don't normally find sports shows compelling and T&A is typically a demerit for a show if it doesn't further the plot or characters... But this show is amazing.

Keijo!!!!!!!! deserves all eight exclamation points in its title. I didn't read that Kotaku article, but I can only imagine that the author controversially thinks that the show only deserves seven exclamation points and is rightfully being derided for it.

I expected to shame watch this and am now unironically loving it. The show hits the perfect balance of 'we're talking about slapping butts and tits together to fight, this is stupid bullshit' and 'but no we're actually going to try to tell some kind of story with characters and all between butt slaps'. It never gets too 'real' for such a stupid concept and it never gets too pointlessly fan-servicey to be lovely. Pretty much I knew this was good poo poo when the show went right from typical sports anime 'I want to fight to get into the top class so I can be the best' to 'ok now I have to take a course called Asstronomy about how to use my butt to fight good' without stumbling or missing a beat.

boob hypnosis. just when i think this show can't outdo the rear end hadoken, it gives us wedgie-powered teleportation and boob-powered paralysis it's incredible i think i'm going to read the manga. is it like, a full entire season anime's worth of content or is it a bit shorter?

Gyra_Solune posted:boob hypnosis. It'd say it's at least one season's worth of content if not more. You get backstory for the heroines, training, and how they actually get to the school. I'm still not sure why they skipped all of it, but whatever, the show's great.

Let's just say the term ASSCALIBUR comes to mind. Only read a bit of the beginning of the manga so I'm not sure exactly when she appears, but I suspect the anime won't reach that point.

I think they'll get to the end of volume 9 finishing off the East-West War. You can see all of the other school's people in the intro. That leaves it open for another season down the road, and is a good stopping point in its own right. I don't know how much further ahead the manga is though.

The anime is cutting out a lot of stuff so the pacing feels really off if you've read the manga. The biggest thing they've probably cut out is the fact that the academy actually has male students, but I don't remember them doing anything noteworthy so it's probably for the best.
