I don't have much to contribute, but I'm really enjoying this LP. Thanks for writing it!

If humanity recovers from this and takes the fight to the bears, it will take a cool-headed military of legendary proportions to keep things from devolving into xenocide. Calls for retribution after the death of a billion are going to be deafening...

I've never played a game in this franchise, and since we're not going to see WMD's in the LP, I was curious about how they work. Does it create a pollution hazard? Does every other sapient race thinks you're a monster and refuses to deal with/eventually declares war on you? Does it hit your own population's morale?

Hey, an update! I'm always up for reading more of your stuff. Hope things are going better for you. I read through your Alpha Centauri LP about a week ago, and it was great fun. :)

Scout frigate: Nightingale class
Fleet escort frigate: no preference
Bombardment cruiser: Taffy class
Battleship: Scipio class
First superheavy slot: n/a
Supplemental fleet role: Impi class assault frigate, since it's designed to work with the Taffy. I'm wary of superheavy battleships at this time- they're monstrously expensive and we risk limiting our strategic flexibility.

I already voted, but a carrrier does sound pretty sweet. Probably makes more sense to go with that if the Impi's companion class is out. Like having half of a pair of scissors.

RSS Chattel Slavery, RSS War On Drugs, RSS Vietnam. I like where this is going.

I dunno man, I understand your intent but "Colossal Injustice #1", "Colossal Injustice #2", and "Name of an entire country"... might be just a touch oversimplified.

Have Republic scientists figured out how to cure the common cold, yet? Can't have been an easy nut to crack.

The thing about the common cold is that it's the easiest goddamn thing to cure in the world: Every time you get over a cold, that's you developing immunity to that strain, and then that strain can never infect you again.

The reason, then, that is hasn't died out, is that there are countless billions of strains of the common cold. Curing the common cold, in essence, requires curing billions of very simple-to-cure diseases, and making a vaccine that can vaccinate you for billions of strains at once.

It's not that it's hard, it's that it's mind-numbingly tedious and would take decades (not accounting for the fact that the common cold strains mutate like nobody's business) to cure an aliment that I'm reasonably certain has never claimed a single life in the history of mankind without bringing influenza into the rumble.

I realize that, but hey, it's centuries from 2017, so maybe they've made a giant leap in immunology? I just want to think that my sci-fi alter ego doesn't have to put up with all this drat sinus congestion.

Fixed that reference for you.

Oy. Yes, I'm aware of its history circa 1955-1975. I'm just saying there's more to Vietnam than that. A couple thousand years' worth, give or take. It'd be like calling a warship the RSS Germany, in reference to the Nazi regime. Painting with a very broad brush and all that.

(incidentally, in Vietnam they call it the American War, unless they're trying to be polite about it.)

You could also just leave aside the planetary reports and making them much shorter and making them a once every 3 updates or something.

^this. Especially for some of our older colonies, where we have a pretty good idea of how things stand. The reports are really neat as a colony is getting started (especially if recently captured from an enemy) but once they're established, we can safely assume they develop along Republic priorities without knowing the minutiae. We have so many colonies at this point that I haven't really been able to keep track of them anyway,
