Yuki Yuna is in a weird spot where it simultaneously has cool and lovely elements, like Togo being a paraplegic magical girl where her disability is treated realistically and with respect instead of fetishized, but at the same time it'll use her for blatant fanservice even though she's a middle schooler. It has good ideas, doesn't try too hard to be dark, and it's above average in a lot of ways but unless you're desensitized to that kind of stuff it's a tough one to recommend. Comparing yuki yuna to madoka is sort of misleading because yuna goes for a very different tone despite the obvious surface parallels, it's not violent in the way you expect.

It was awful. Nonsense story and a weird subplot about the villain trying to breed with the twelve year old protagonist.
Then again it's leagues better than the other magical girl animes that get compared to madoka like this crap
