ESO is A Good Game if you do not go into it wanting literally Skyrim with Multiplayer.

It's perfectly fine being called The Elder Scrolls Online. If they tried to call it The Elder Scrolls 6 I would have had an issue.

The lore isn't as deep as a mainline game, and I have a few quibbles (a literal loving crown that controls all elves really really doesn't fit in with TES), but it's worth playing, especially with Goons.

Didn't someone say in the previous thread that ESO has actually a deeper lore than previous Elder Scrolls games ? I'm not an expert but there is a lot of books in the world (and even a Librarian addon to read them later).

I suppose what I meant more was that there's a lot of lore, but nothing that really goes full-in on a Province or something, because obviously ESO features all 9 Provinces, and- to steal a phrase from Tolkien- it's like butter scraped over too much bread. They touched on everything but didn't really delve deep in the way a main TES game can on a province. It's nothing against ZOS or ESO, it's just a feeling, and obviously the DLC has made it better, and will make it better.

Vvardenfell is really interesting and difficult for Morrowind vets. As far as any fictional location is, it's Sacred Ground. My sperg will be turboed to max and I will bitch endlessly if it's not done just right. If you want to make fun of me as I go Maximum Goon in guild chat you will know when to be there.

Argoonians are clearly the superior goons. Argonians counter-invaded Mehrunes Dagon so loving hard that the Daedra start closing their own Oblivion Gates because the lizards kicked their poo poo in so badly. They stole a flying island from hell and used it to purge invaders and raise an undead army. When faced with bigger threats, they consistently allied with races that have deeply wronged (i.e. slaughtered or loving enslaved) them. They are lizards that have psychic connections to trees which give them prophetic visions and occasionally straight-up buffs, and trip balls on tree sap which basically makes them evolve. They look cool and sound cool and have cool naming conventions. Also their women have titties for no good reason and that rules too.

They didn't steal Umbriel, they made a deal with the ruler of the city to only purge the unclean- the foreigners and 'corrupted' Argonians.

And it's still unclear if that was the actions of just one Hist or all of them.

I, as Arch-Lizard of the Ebonheart Goons, am going to decree a rule:

The abbreviation MW, by itself, shall strictly be reserved for TES3:Morrowind.

Acceptable abbreviations for ESO:Morrowind are anything like ESO:MW.

MW has always, and will forever, refer to TES3: Morrowind.

Except when it refers to Modern Warfare or MechWarrior.

But in the context of TES, Morrowind referring to a game with no context must always refer to TES3. If you want to say "Was it like this in Morrowind", you shall be assumed to refer to TES3. Not ESO:Morrowind.

So, I've played for about 5 hours straight and before I hit the bed, I'm gonna say what I think:

It feels like a pretty good cover of a popular song. Fundamentally, there's not much missing- some things have relocated a bit, the world is almost certainly not to scale with Morrowind's Vvardenfell (again, remember, TES 3 Morrowind is and always shall be Morrowind)- it feels significantly smaller. Obviously it's 700 years in the past, so I'm not expecting identical. And so far I haven't found anything that particularly offends my sensibilities (other than being able to ride a guar across Zafirbel Bay). For example, the Vassir-Didanat mine is pretty much where Fort Moonmoth would be.

So far there's a few references I've seen- Vivec, obviously, is around. I got a good chuckle when I put the pieces of Canon Llevule, who you escort in a very early quest into the Andrano Ancestral Tomb to meet an ancestor, and figured out where that name came from apparently one of my descendants is going to deliver his skull to an Orc who is certainly NOT practicing Necromancy in the Balmora Mages Guild.. A good chunk of the Telvanni Council are familiar faces, except far younger and generally less crazy in some cases.

But if you're looking forward to this expecting it to be A New Morrowind you're going to be sorely disappointed. It's not the Vvardenfell you remember. And that's fine, you can load up Morrowind (TES3, remember) any time you want and play it. They're paying homage to the original but in their own game and putting their own spin on it, and making some smart references to the past (or future, if you want to get chronological with it). If you played ESO before it's like The Rift and Eastmarch zones. Similar, but not exact.

Morrowind is a game you can get over 50 hours of playtime in. ESO Morrowind, they say about 30, and let's face it, they always overestimate that (but I think it's closer to the mark than most).

It's nearly that time of year, so I'm going to advertise an old favorite thing of mine, which is...

The 3rd Annual Goons Watch Bethesda's E3 Press Conference (Sunday at 10 PM EDT) In Guild Chat

As is tradition, since the launch of ESO goons have met up sometimes to sit in guild chat and talk about Bethesda's E3 press conferences. Two years ago I squeeed when I saw the settlement building stuff in FO4. We occasionally make fun of them for what they say about ESO given that it's never particularly substantial, but maybe THIS WILL BE DIFFERENT! (it won't).

So let's do it again! If you've got nothing better to do because all womenfolk or menfolk, depending on preference, have abandoned you because "oh my god is that cheeto dust in your hair what is that smell", or you really should be going to sleep for work but MAYBE TES 6 WILL GET ANNOUNCED PLEASE (it won't, Starfield will probably be, if those rumors are true). Come sit with other goons in loneliness!

It'll be a grand old time!

Yeah the logic about subbing is you basically get crowns for the same price as buying them outright, so you can buy the DLC you already have access to so when you decide to unsub you don't lose any content.

On top of it you get faster leveling (not that significantly but appreciated), extra bank space and the craft bag.

Plus you get a surplus of crowns at times so you can drop stupid cash on a fully furnished Telvanni tower.
