Kaine did the right thing to interrupt and attack trump. Pence is the typical good ole boy, smug, say horrible things with a smile type that the media and average joe love. By constantly tying pence to trump's insanity, kaine forced trump back on the stage and blurred the optics of pence's poo poo eating grin. The more pence defended trump the more his image was married to trump's and if he tried to avoid it, it made him seem ashamed, which is exactly what people don't want to feel for supporting an obviously bad bad no good very terrible guy like trump. Its like fouling a player in the NBA before an easy shot. Sure, they get 2 free throws but you prevent points temporarily and force the player to work just a little harder to score.
