Only thing anyone will remember next week is how the RNC hosed up on their web page and prematurely declared victory.

a. He's pretty popular in Virginia and since she picked him, VA's gone from leaning blue to safe blue (which it remained even during that month where Turmp's numbers surged)
b. He's a white man so he won't scare off whitey
c. He's Catholic and speaks fluent Spanish and lived in Honduras for a year, and the Hillary campaign was hoping this would help with their Hispanic outreach (obviously not as effectively as an actual Hispanic running mate but see b.)
d. He's devoutly religious and has some kinda-but-not-really-conservative opinions to appeal to conservatives who don't like Trump
e. Probably most important of all, Hillary actually has a good working relationship with him.

Not all of these things have worked out but they were all probably on Hillary's mind when she picked him.

f. He knows all the best dad jokes, and is unafraid to tell them in front of your girlfriend.
