WE ARE SMART
GT playing LSU would be pretty cool. Most of the other projections I've seen have us matched up with the likes of Maryland (eh) or Indiana (eh) or Louisiana Tech (bluh).

Latest round of rankings are out, so if this all started today:

pre:
Peach Bowl Dec. 31 Atlanta, Ga. #1 Alabama (SEC Champ) vs. #4 Clemson (ACC Champ)
Fiesta Bowl Dec. 31 Glendale, Ariz. #2 Ohio State (Big Ten Champ) vs. #3 Michigan (At-Large)
First, holy poo poo at that Fiesta Bowl, and they should invade the Rose Bowl and play that game there because who's going to stop them, honestly? Second, there's no humanly possible way that can happen, even with sheer unleaded XORT all over the place, so for the purpose of this exercise Bama and Clemson wins the SEC/ACC, Penn State takes an L which allows the winner of OSU/Mich to win the B1G East and the conference accordingly, which I've projected to be Ohio State, yet the loser somehow doesn't fall out. Considering this is just a thought exercise don't worry too much about it.

New Year's Bowls
pre:
Sugar Bowl Jan. 2 New Orleans, La. Big 12 vs SEC #9 Oklahoma (Big 12 Champ) vs. #15 Auburn (SEC Rep)
Rose Bowl Jan. 2 Pasadena, Calif. Big Ten vs Pac-12 #7 Wisconsin (Big Ten Rep) vs. #6 Washington (Pac-12 Champ)
Cotton Bowl Jan. 2 Arlington, Tex. Group of 5 vs. At-large #20 Boise State (Group of 5 Rep) vs. #10 Colorado (At-Large)
Orange Bowl Dec. 30 Miami, Fla. ACC vs. Big Ten/SEC/ND #5 Louisville (ACC Rep) vs.#8 Penn State (Big Ten Rep)
Rose and Orange are loaded for bear with a pair of Top 10 matchups. Wisconsin is ranked above Penn State so they get the Rose, and if Penn State falls in either of their last two games they don't deserve the Rose anyway. Washington and Oklahoma get left out and go to the Sugar/Rose as their respective champs. Auburn's the tallest of Alabama and the Thirteen Dwarves, so they get the Sugar by default. Colorado becomes our At-Large rep in the Cotton at ten, but now they face Boise with the Bluefielders jumping the Boatrowers and with Wyoming projected to take an L against San Diego State, it opens the door to Boise reclaiming their birthright as Group of 5 rep. It also establishes that a 12-1 MWC Champ Boise jumps a 13-0 MAC Champ Western Michigan, which would be a loving crime tbh.

I decided to take the top 25 rankings into considering when placing teams, because why not. First, loving  at the Citrus now, which is Winner Gets Jimbo Fisher. Second, the Holla Holla Get Dolla Genera Bowl is a far better matchup than it deserves. Texas becomes a rematch of the Peach from a couple years ago, Liberty falls into a pretty sensational matchup, and bert gets to commit treason against America.

These will never happen because there's no way for Ohio State and Michigan to be in the Top 4, not with both taking L's before facing each other, so feel free to take these in and wonder what could have been before you ultimately get the most disappointing matchup you could ask for.

Week 12 - The Calm Before The Storm

Legend:
Bold = Eligible
Italics = Projected Eligible
Strike = Ineligible

ACC

ATLANTIC
pre:
Clemson (7-1, 10-1) SC, ACCCG (7-1, 12-1)
Louisville (7-1, 9-2) UK (7-1, 10-2)
Florida State (5-3, 8-3) UF (5-3, 9-3)
Wake Forest (3-4, 6-5) BC (4-4, 7-5)
NC State (2-5, 5-6) @UNC (2-6, 5-7)
Syracuse (2-5, 4-7) @PITT (2-6, 4-8)
Boston College (1-6, 5-6) @WAKE (1-7, 5-7)
Clemson beats Wake and heads to Greensboro Orlando. Louisville's loss isn't good, but it doesn't hurt as much as you'd think since they're still the strongest candidate to go to the Orange, barring an upset in the ACCCG. Cuse is the first team gone from here, and somehow BC's one upset away from actually becoming bowl eligible, which shows you just how dumb this stupid loving year has been.

COASTAL
pre:
Virginia Tech (5-2, 8-3) UVA (6-2, 9-3)
North Carolina (5-2, 8-3) NCST (6-2, 9-3)
Miami (4-3, 7-4) DUKE (5-3, 8-4)
Pitt (4-3, 7-4) CUSE (5-3, 8-4)
Georgia Tech (4-4, 7-4) @UGA (4-4, 7-5)
Duke (1-6, 4-7) @MIA (1-7, 4-8)
Virginia (1-6, 2-9) @VT (1-7, 2-10)
Make or break time for VT and UNC; Tech wins gives them the Coastal, a Tech loss and a UNC win gives it to the Heels. Miami and Pitt look like they'll finish with identical records which somehow boosts Miami up in the H2H, and Duke needs to upset the []_[] to move to the head of the APR pool.

pre:
Notre Dame (4-7) @USC (4-8)
God that felt good. Everyone should be able to eliminate Notre Dame from bowl eligibility once in their life. Almost feels as good as Duke getting knocked out of the NCAA Tournament.

ACC Projected Bowl Eligible Teams - 9: Clemson, Louisville, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Florida State, Miami, Pitt, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech

BIG TEN

EAST
pre:
Michigan (7-1, 10-1) @OSU (7-2, 10-2)
Ohio State (7-1, 10-1) MICH (8-1, 11-1)
Penn State (7-1, 9-2) MSU (8-1, 10-2)
Indiana (3-5, 5-6) PUR (4-5, 6-6)
Maryland (2-6, 5-6) RUT (3-6, 6-6)
Michigan State (1-7, 3-8) @PENN (1-8, 3-9)
Rutgers (0-8, 2-9) @MARY (0-9, 2-10)
Michigan wins the East with a win at the Shoe. Penn State wins with a victory over Sparty and a Buckeye win, while Ohio State needs to win and root for Sparty. The scenario that seems the most probably is Ohio State and Penn State winning, yet I can't completely put Sparty away and upsetting Penn State at the end and getting Ohio State into the Playoff just feels like it's going to happen, which would make my inevitable pro-Ohio State shitposting that much more improbable. Indiana and Maryland need to take care of business to become eligible.

WEST
pre:
Wisconsin (6-2, 9-2) MINN (7-2, 10-2)
Nebraska (6-2, 9-2) @IOWA (7-2, 10-2)
Minnesota (5-3, 8-3) @WIS (5-4, 8-4)
Iowa (5-3, 7-4) NEB (5-4, 7-5)
Northwestern (4-4, 5-6) ILL (5-4, 6-6)
Illinois (2-6, 3-8) @NW (2-7, 3-9)
Purdue (1-7, 3-8) @IND (1-8, 3-9)
The road runs through Wisconsin, as they clinch the West with a win or a Nebraska loss, as a 4-way tie at the top works out in favor of the Badgers. Northwestern just needs to finish off Illinois to make a bowl

Big Ten Projected Bowl Eligible Teams - 10: Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa, Northwestern, Maryland, Indiana

Big 12

pre:
Oklahoma (8-0, 9-2) OKST (9-0, 10-2)
Oklahoma State (7-1, 9-2) @OK (7-2, 9-3)
West Virginia (5-2, 8-2) @ISU, BAY (7-2, 10-2)
Kansas State (4-3, 6-4) KU, @TCU (5-4, 7-5)
Baylor (3-4, 6-4) TTU, @WVU (3-6, 6-6)
TCU (3-4, 5-5) @TEX, KSU (5-4, 7-5)
Texas (3-5, 5-6) TCU (3-6, 5-7)
Texas Tech (2-6, 4-7) BAY (3-6, 5-7)
Iowa State (2-6, 3-8) WVU (2-7, 3-9)
Kansas (1-7, 2-9) @KSU (1-8, 2-10)
Oklahoma gets the win and setups up Bedlam for the Big 12 title once again, but it's probably not going to be enough to get them into the Playoff barring a decapitation at the top. K-State gets in as Baylor's death spiral continues, and RIP to Charlie Strong as losing to Kansas should and will cost him his job. Technically Texas isn't out of the bowl picture since TCU's not inspiring anyone right now, but I don't feel like that's a realistic possibility. Lost in all that was Iowa State beating the brakes off of Texas Tech, knocking the Red Raiders from bowl-eligibility, and while I think he's fine for this year, Koach Kliffy K has to be on the hot seat next season.

Big 12 Projected Bowl Eligible Teams - 6: Oklahoma, West Virginia, Oklahoma State, TCU, Kansas State, Baylor

PAC-12

NORTH
pre:
Washington (7-1, 10-1) @WSU (8-1, 11-1)
Washington State (7-1, 8-3) WASH (7-2, 8-4)
Stanford (6-3, 8-3) RICE (6-3, 9-3)
Cal (2-6, 4-7) UCLA (3-6, 5-7)
Oregon (2-6, 4-7) @ORST (3-6, 5-7)
Oregon State (2-6, 3-8) ORE (2-7, 3-9)
Apple Cup decides the North, just as we all drew it up at the start. More importantly, it'll decide the Pac-12's fate in the Playoffs, as it's hard to see anyone but Washington getting in and even that's not a guarantee at this point. Stanford knocks out Cal and we might need to consider where Oregon is in the APR pool if they win the Civil War.

SOUTH
pre:
Colorado (7-1, 9-2) UTAH (8-1, 10-2)
USC (7-2, 8-3) ND (7-2, 9-3)
Utah (5-3, 8-3) @COL (5-4, 8-4)
Arizona State (2-6, 5-6) @ARIZ (3-6, 6-6)
UCLA (2-6, 4-7) @CAL (3-6, 5-7)
Arizona (0-8, 2-9) ASU (0-9, 2-10)
Colorado wins the South with a win over Utah, a loss gives the division to USC, who might be the most dangerous team in the Pac-12 right now. Sun Devils are the only team without a determined fate, a win over hapless Arizona for the Territorial Cup puts them into bowl-eligibility. Speaking of the Wildcats, it's looking like the marriage between RichRod and them might be coming to a close soon. Maybe Holgo The Magnificent follows RichRod to another job?

Pac-12 Projected Bowl Eligible Teams - 7: Washington, Colorado, Utah, USC, Stanford, Washington State, Arizona State

SEC

EAST
pre:
Florida (6-2, 8-2) @FSU, BAMA (6-2, 8-4)
Tennessee (4-3, 8-3) @VAN (5-3, 9-3)
Georgia (4-4, 7-4) GT (4-4, 8-4)
Kentucky (4-4, 6-5) @LOU (4-4, 6-6)
South Carolina (3-5, 6-5) @CLEM (3-5, 6-6)
Vanderbilt (2-5, 5-6) TENN (2-6, 5-7)
Missouri (1-6, 3-8) ARK (2-6, 4-8)
Florida repeats as East champs and is the sacrificial lamb for the GodKing to close out the Georgia Dome. Kentucky and South Carolina eat their cupcakes to get in, and Vandy's upset over Ole Miss moves them back to the top of the APR pile. And gently caress it, I've been calling Mizzou beating bert since the start, I'm pot-committed, I'm not backing off now.

WEST
pre:
Alabama (7-0, 11-0) AUB, UF (8-0, 13-0)
Auburn (5-2, 8-3) @BAMA (5-3, 8-4)
Texas A&M (4-3, 8-3) LSU (4-4, 8-4)
LSU (4-3, 6-4) @A&M (5-3, 7-4)
Arkansas (3-4, 7-4) @MIZZ (3-5, 7-5)
Ole Miss (2-5, 5-6) MSST (2-6, 5-7)
Mississippi State (2-5, 4-7) @MISS (3-5, 5-7)
Poor Florida. Auburn probably sets itself up for the Sugar Bowl with a respectable showing against Bama. I think LSU gets past A&M, but it won't be enough for DACOACHO to keep the LSU job so Mr. Steal Your Job will move after the season (maybe to wherever Kiffykins winds up). Egg Bowl looks like it'll be a trainwreck so gently caress it, I'm calling a CLANGA win and Ole Miss' season finally hitting rock bottom.

SEC Projected Bowl Eligible Teams - 10: Alabama, Tennessee, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Texas A&M, LSU, Arkansas, Kentucky, South Carolina

AMERICAN

EAST
pre:
South Florida (6-1, 9-2) UCF (7-1, 10-2)
Temple (6-1, 8-3) ECU (7-1, 9-3)
UCF (4-3, 6-5) @USF (5-3, 7-5)
Cincinnati (1-6, 4-7) @TULSA (1-7, 4-8)
UConn (1-6, 3-8) TULANE (2-6, 4-8)
East Carolina (1-6, 3-8) @TEMPLE (1-7, 3-9)
USF is still on-top via overall record, but Temple claims the East with a win over hapless ECU. Cinci is now ineligible and the Travelin' Tubbs watch is in full effect.

WEST
pre:
Navy (6-1, 8-2) @SMU, AACCG, ARMY (7-1, 11-2)
Houston (5-2, 9-2) @MEM (6-2, 10-2)
Tulsa (5-2, 8-3) CIN (6-2, 9-3)
Memphis (4-3, 7-4) HOU (4-4, 7-5)
SMU (3-4, 5-6) NAVY (3-5, 5-7)
Tulane (0-7, 3-8) @UCONN (0-8, 3-9)
Navy has the H2H with Houston and Tulsa, so they've got the West locked down. I also think they'll become the first team to play a regular season game after playing their conference championship game, but I ain't looking that up. Good on Houston showing up and creaming Louisville, really making people wonder what could have been as Tom Herman prepares for his bidding war.

American Projected Bowl Eligible Teams - 7: Navy, Houston, Temple, South Florida, Tulsa, Memphis, UCF

C-USA

EAST
pre:
Western Kentucky (6-1, 8-3) @MAR (7-1, 9-3)
Old Dominion (6-1, 8-3) FIU (7-1, 9-3)
Middle Tennessee (4-3, 7-4) FAU (5-3, 8-4)
FIU (4-3, 4-7) @ODU (4-4, 4-8)
Charlotte (3-4, 4-7) @UTSA (3-5, 4-8)
Marshall (2-5, 3-8) WKU (2-6, 3-9)
FAU (2-5, 3-8) @MTSU (2-6, 3-9)
WKU's division to lose once again. Dream is dead for Charlotte.

WEST
pre:
Louisiana Tech (6-1, 8-3) @USM, C-USACG (7-1, 9-4)
UTSA (4-3, 5-6) CHA (5-3, 6-6)
North Texas (3-4, 5-6) @UTEP (4-4, 6-6)
Southern Miss (3-4, 5-6) LATECH (3-5, 5-7)
Rice (2-6, 3-8) @STAN (2-6, 3-9)
UTEP (1-6, 3-8) UNT (1-7, 3-9)
LaTech's just playing out the side. Roadrunners have to pick off Charlotte to get in, and Southern Miss has fallen apart and it looks like they won't even get in now, which benefits North Texas the most as they'll take the spot USM had occupied for so long.

C-USA Projected Bowl Eligible Teams - 6: Western Kentucky, Louisiana Tech, Old Dominion, Middle Tennessee, UTSA, North Texas

pre:

BYU still locked into the Poinsettia. Army's not eligible with their sixth win as they have two over FCS teams; upsetting Navy puts them in straight up, otherwise they're a hair before the APR pool.

Independent Projected Bowl Eligible Teams - 2: BYU, Army

MAC

EAST
pre:
Ohio (5-2, 7-4) AKRON (6-2, 8-4)
Miami Ohio (5-2, 5-6) BALL (6-2, 6-6)
Akron (3-4, 5-6) @OHIO (3-5, 5-7)
Bowling Green (2-5, 3-8) BUFF (3-5, 4-8)
Kent State (2-5, 3-8) NIU (2-6, 3-9)
Buffalo (1-6, 2-9) @BG (1-7, 2-10)
Ohio clinches with a win over Akron or Miami falling to Ball State, and it would honestly be a shame if the Redhawks' miraculous run comes up one game short. Akron's now played themselves out of a bowl, so good job there fellas. Wrote this last week, remains the same this week.

WEST
pre:
Western Michigan (7-0, 11-0) TOL (8-0, 12-0)
Toledo (6-1, 9-2) @WMU (6-2, 9-3)
Northern Illinois (4-3, 4-7) @KENT (5-3, 5-7)
Eastern Michigan (3-4, 6-5) CMU (4-4, 7-5)
Central Michigan (3-4, 6-5) @EMU (3-5, 6-6)
Ball State (1-6, 4-7) @MOH (1-7, 4-8)
Good weekend for the Boatrowers, but it's all for naught if they job to Toledo. CMU upsets Ohio and is locked in. I know pulling for the underdog is popular and fun to do, but if you're pulling for BallSoHard State over Miami this week then gently caress you.

MAC Projected Bowl Eligible Teams - 6: Western Michigan, Toledo, Ohio, Eastern Michigan, Miami Ohio, Central Michigan

MOUNTAIN WEST

MOUNTAIN
pre:
Boise State (6-1, 10-1) @AF (7-1, 11-1)
Wyoming (6-1, 8-3) @NM (7-1, 9-3)
New Mexico (5-2, 7-4) WYO (5-3, 7-5)
Air Force (4-3, 8-3) BOISE (4-4, 8-4)
Colorado State (4-3, 6-5) SDSU (4-4, 6-6)
Utah State (1-7, 3-8) @BYU (1-7, 3-9)
Boise loses the break they needed as Wyoming beats San Diego State, meaning the Bluefielders will need to beat Air Force and have New Mexico upset Wyoming to win the division. Colorado State gets in and this whole division is set.

WEST
pre:
San Diego State (6-1, 9-2) CSU, MWCCG (7-1, 11-2)
Hawai'i (4-4, 5-7) UMASS (4-4, 6-7)
UNLV (3-4, 4-7) NEV (4-4, 5-7)
Nevada (2-5, 4-7) @UNLV (2-6, 4-8)
San Jose State (2-5, 3-8) @FRESNO (3-5, 4-8)
Fresno State (0-7, 1-10) SJST (0-8, 1-11)
San Diego State's loss hurts in that it'll ruin their case to gain the Group of 5 spot, had they beaten Boise in the MWCCG, but it helps in that they'll most likely play Wyoming in a rematch, which would be easier than facing Boise. Rainbows need a win over hapless UMass to backdoor their way in at 6-7. You should pull for them. Rainbows, bitch :smug:

MWC Projected Bowl Eligible Teams - 7: Wyoming, San Diego State, Boise State, New Mexico, Air Force, Colorado State, Hawai'i

SUN BELT

pre:
Arkansas State (6-0, 6-4) @ULL, @TXST (8-0, 8-4)
App State (6-1, 8-3) @NMST (7-1, 9-3)
Troy (5-1, 8-2) @TXST, @GSO (7-1, 10-2)
Idaho (4-2, 6-4) USA, GSU (6-2, 8-4)
Louisiana-Lafayette (3-3, 4-6) ARKST, @ULM (4-4, 5-7)
Georgia Southern (3-4, 4-7) TROY (3-5, 4-8)
Louisiana-Monroe (3-4, 4-7) ULL (3-5, 4-8)
New Mexico State (2-4, 3-7) APP, @USA (2-6, 3-9)
Georgia State (2-5, 3-8) @IDAHO (2-6, 3-9)
South Alabama (1-5, 5-5) @IDAHO, NMSU (2-6, 6-6)
Texas State (0-6, 2-8) TROY, ARKST (0-8, 2-10)
Another win gives Arky State a share of the Fun Belt title, two gives them the belt outright. South Alabama needs to win their last two to guarantee getting in, since the LSU cancellation and adding Presbyterian gives them two FCS wins. They'd be in the same boat as Army and Hawai'i accordingly. That sixth win isn't a guarantee either.

Sun Belt Projected Bowl Eligible Teams - 5: Arkansas State, Troy, App State, Idaho, South Alabama

College Football Playoff

pre:
Peach Bowl Dec. 31 Atlanta, Ga. #1 Alabama (SEC Champ) vs. #4 Washington (Pac-12 Champ)
Fiesta Bowl Dec. 31 Glendale, Ariz. #2 Clemson (ACC Champ) vs. #3 Wisconsin (Big Ten Champ)
One and Two stay the same. I move Wisconsin, who wins the West and beats Penn State in the B1G CG, up to three. Four is where the real drama is now. You've got a 10-2 Oklahoma who runs the table in the Big 12, an 11-1 Ohio State who got up to #2 in the Playoff Poll and never lost, beating #3 in the process, and a 12-1 Washington who wins the Pac-12. Oklahoma gets knocked out by virtue of losing the H2H against Ohio State, but the committee is still valuing conference championships, and in the end Washington winning the Pac-12 and beating a top 10 USC team in the process (despite the fact that beating Washington is what jolted USC up the polls in the first place) is enough to give the Pac-12 the 4th spot over an At-Large from the Big Ten. Much whining and crying from America's Heartland as they pout their way to the Rose Bowl and I shitpost 50,000 words about why this is the greatest American tragedy since Woody Hayes was framed.

New Year's Bowls
pre:
Sugar Bowl Jan. 2 New Orleans, La. Big 12 vs SEC Oklahoma (Big 12 Champ) vs. Auburn (SEC Rep)
Rose Bowl Jan. 2 Pasadena, Calif. Big Ten vs Pac-12 Ohio State (Big Ten Rep) vs. Colorado (Pac-12 Rep)
Cotton Bowl Jan. 2 Arlington, Tex. Group of 5 vs. At-large Western Michigan (Group of 5 Rep) vs. Penn State (At-Large)
Orange Bowl Dec. 30 Miami, Fla. ACC vs. Big Ten/SEC/ND Louisville (ACC Rep) vs. Michigan (Big Ten Rep)
There's also stability here. Ohio State goes to the Rose and considers it an injustice, facing Colorado. Louisville still heads to the Orange, where they now face Michigan, who ends up ranked above Penn State despite the latter winning the Big Ten East. Nittany Lions fall to the Cotton, where they face Western Michigan, who have complete control over the Group of 5 spot. Big 12 champ Oklahoma heads to the Sugar where they face Auburn, who stays ranked above Tennessee despite an Iron Bowl loss, with Florida taking two L's down the stretch to fall behind War Eagle.

We need to fill six five spots from the APR pool, so come on down Vanderbilt, Boston College, UCLA, (Texas is next but refuses), Mississippi State, Northern Illinois, and Oregon all get the call up.

We're getting closer to the end, and while I'm never going to have confidence in my picks since I don't know what politicking is going on, this isn't too bad. We've still got a number of teams that could get in and it's not out of question that we don't need the APR pool, or at least to the degree that we needed last year and are projected to this year. Some decent matchups, Oregon/Navy is a real styles clash, San Diego State/Arizona State, bert against whoever coaches Houston in their bowl game, and Hokie/Vol plays in front of a crowd that's a little smaller than it was earlier this year.

This is still wrong. It will always be wrong. We'll just have to see how wrong it is.

e - dammit I forgot Colorado State. Oregon go home.

e2 - alright I hosed up somewhere. I'll fix it later since I'll probably have to start from scratch.

It's time to get rid of conference alliances in the New Years six games. After the playoff, it should be 5 vs 6, 7 vs 8, 9 vs 10 and 11vs 12. None of this 7 vs 18 poo poo.

Agreed, except for Rose. That stays pac home team😡

I almost prefer if the huskies lose 1 more game so they can do the rose instead of the playoff. Almost.

Well, no one from the Pac-12 but Washington has playoff hopes, so if you want the Rose over the Playoff, root for Ohio State to go as an At-Large.

If they both lose they tie on record, Minnesota has a better overall but Iowa won the H2H. I believe Jerry Palm when he says that B1G bowl picks are only slightly based on merit so YMMV when it comes to the mid-level bowls. Also, if I wasn't so bullish on bert I could put together an Iowa/Arkansas Music City Bowl which would sell a ticket or two.

Personally I'd rather go from the Midwest to Nashville and the Music City than out west to San Diego and the Holiday, but as I'm not from the midwest I could be wrong on that.

Jerry Palm is trash at projecting bowls. Iowa has a fanbase than travels much better and the H2H win and similar overall records make it easy to justify from a merit standpoint.

As for which they'd prefer, Nashville is cool, would be much more drivable for fans, and something new, but San Diego is a great city and an excuse to get out of the cold. The Holiday is also a bigger name bowl and one Iowa has a lot of history with going back to the Hayden Fry days. Also I can drive or take the train to the Holiday Bowl and I feel like that should carry a lot of weight

WVU seems pretty locked into Orlando for the RAC, baring some kind bizzaro world that lands both OSU and OU in NY6/CFB.

Which, frankly, is a good thing for us. Great trip for our fans, and more importantly, a chance to be back in Florida for recruiting.

And yet it's better than Cal's, which isn't something I would have ever expected.

That being said, if we gotta dig five or six out of the pile we gotta go as deep as possible, even beyond the Mississippi State's of the world if necessary.

I mean, there's a very small chance we could upset Alabama and go to the title game!

But in reality, I just don't see any other way than Alabama kicking our face in. UW is good, but not "beat Alabama" good.

There's also the fact that it sometimes starts at 9:30 PM Central on a weekday, not everyone wants to stay up until midnight. According to Wikipedia they fixed that for this year though.

I think their only route to the playoffs involves Colorado upsetting Washington and the committee deciding whichever Oklahoma wins Bedlam (and thereby the Big 12) isn't worthy for Big 12 reasons. Otherwise, if Michigan wins you basically swap them into the playoffs and Wisconsin into the Rose Bowl, and Penn State gets the Cotton...unless they go with the loser of Bedlam. Or a brand name SEC team.

The even funnier outcome is swapping the Orange and Cotton Bowls and Western Michigan plays Michigan Michigan.

I doubt a 10-2 Big 12 team jumps all the way over Ohio State, especially not Oklahoma with the head to head loss. 1-loss Washington probably would, though it's certainly much more in doubt than it would have been if they had stayed perfect. Also, if the B10 championship ends up with Nebraska over Penn State I could see OSU going instead of Nebraska.

Latest round of rankings are out, so if this all started today it would probably look like it did last week!:

pre:
Peach Bowl Dec. 31 Atlanta, Ga. #1 Alabama (SEC Champ) vs. #4 Clemson (ACC Champ)
Fiesta Bowl Dec. 31 Glendale, Ariz. #2 Ohio State (Big Ten Champ) vs. #3 Michigan (At-Large)
Nothing changes here; Fiesta Bowl still overly lit and impossible to actually happen IRL, Peach Bowl probably turns into a Bama romp because the sequel never lives up to the original.

New Year's Bowls
pre:
Sugar Bowl Jan. 2 New Orleans, La. Big 12 vs SEC #8 Oklahoma (Big 12 Champ) vs. #13 Auburn (SEC Rep)
Rose Bowl Jan. 2 Pasadena, Calif. Big Ten vs Pac-12 #6 Wisconsin (Big Ten Rep) vs. #5 Washington (Pac-12 Champ)
Cotton Bowl Jan. 2 Arlington, Tex. Group of 5 vs. At-large #20 Boise State (Group of 5 Rep) vs. #9 Colorado (At-Large)
Orange Bowl Dec. 30 Miami, Fla. ACC vs. Big Ten/SEC/ND #11 Louisville (ACC Rep) vs. #7 Penn State (Big Ten Rep)
Nothing changes here, as despite their loss Louisville remains above FSU and takes the ACC's spot in the Orange. I really should move Boise out, since they now need Wyoming to lose to New Mexico this weekend along with their win over Air Force to claim their division, and even with Houston being ranked above the Boatrowers they can't win their division. Meanwhile Navy enters at #25, so it might be worth keeping an eye on the Middies next week. Everything is usually set before the Army/Navy game but if WMU takes a loss they become real intriguing, especially if Army somehow pulls the upset. It also means there might need to be some scheduling changes in the future.

And the rest:

pre:
Outback Bowl Jan. 2 Tampa, Fla. B1G vs. SEC Nebraska vs. Georgia

I decided to take the top 25 rankings into considering when placing teams, because why not. First, at that Citrus Bowl once again, it's not quite the Jimbo Fisher Ladder Match but I think it'll be an acceptable substitute. RAB becomes the renewal of the Black Diamond rivalry, and there's a handful of OK to Good games but nothing outstanding. Programming note: South Alabama has successfully applied for a waiver to count both of their FCS wins towards eligibility as they had their LSU game cancelled and scheduled Presbyterian accordingly, so they'll get in at 6-6 and will go after the other 6-6 teams but before the APR pool. Also, putting Minnesota over Iowa into the Holiday is basically mod sass at this point so if I get banned you'll know why :smug:

These will never happen because there's no way for Ohio State and Michigan to be in the Top 4, not with both taking L's before facing each other, and we ain't getting Noles/Gata in a bowl that's not a Playoff/NY6 Bowl, so feel free to take these in and wonder what could have been before you ultimately get the most disappointing matchup you could ask for.

This is worth a double-post: Miami Ohio becomes the first team to go from 0-6 to 6-6 and become bowl eligible. Give the Redhawks all your love.

For the players I want them to go to the Bahamas. For the athletics office staff I want them to go somewhere that's less of a logistical nightmare.

Cool, was wondering if they could do this.

Ugh, I feel like Georgia plays Nebraska (or Michigan State) in a bowl game every year. gently caress that noise.

Also I don't see FSU and UF getting matched up. Don't they literally play this week?

I hate all the SEC/B10/ACC tie-ins. Would kill to see one of those middle-of-the-pack Outback/Gator/Liberty bowls that have no real tradition to uphold switch to SEC-P12. Your season was disappointing and you're going to Memphis? At least you're playing like, Cal, or somebody you probably never see otherwise. That'd be vaguely fun.

I assume they do it this way because they think Pac12 fans wouldn't travel in great numbers anywhere east of Texas.

Right, even a new bowl would either be on somebody's turf or in no man's land where you can't count on anyone coming to a bad matchup. Texas wouldn't be too bad, especially if they have an official preference for an SECw team like the Cotton had before its promotion to the top tier. P12 already plays one there like the Alamo or something I think.

Shockingly USC fans are not impressed by the opportunity to go to the beach and visit a Disney theme park

Pac12 tie ins are in Los Angeles, San Antonio, San Diego, San Francisco, Las Vegas, El Paso & Phoenix. Almost all within the geography footprint aside from 2 Texas bowls. The El Paso game is against ACC. Alamo had previous deep ties to BigXII if I recall before PAC took over BIG's spot but would be a great location to be a SEC-Pac option. Problem with a regular Florida bowl for the PAC is that it's a 4-6 hour flight from the west coast and more costly for students to fly to. Oregon State versus Vanderbilt in Tax Slayer Bowl probably wouldn't draw too well.

On the flip side, I DO think all Power 5 conferences should set bowl for their top 4-5 teams versus each of the other Power 5 conferences. At present, PAC-SEC don't play nor does BIG-BXII.

I think Fiesta basically got their choice of B12 team and looking through their history they either then got an at-large or the #2 B1G team.

If you keep the NY6 as is, then I'd look to have the 2nd tier of bowls as follows and then each P5 conference would have their top4 bowl assignments against each of the other power5 conferences. After these you have the other regional and other bowl games.

pre:
Citrus Bowl Orlando, Fla. SEC #2	BIG #2
Outback Bowl Tampa, Fla. B12 #2	ACC #2
Alamo Bowl San Antonio, Tex.	PAC #2	SEC #3
Holiday Bowl San Diego, Calif.	PAC #3	B12 #3
Music City Bowl Nashville, Tenn.	ACC #3	BIG #3
Texas Bowl Houston, Tex. BIG #4	B12 #4
Belk Bowl Charlotte, N.C.	ACC #4	SEC #4
Sun Bowl El Paso, Tex. PAC #4	ACC #5

One of the more interesting things that I read is that with some of the Bowls we would likely get into, one of the opponents would actually be Miami, so that'd be kinda silly.

The dream:

Michigan loses to OSU but due to other top 10 losses only drops to number 4 in the final ranking.

In the playoffs Ohio beats Clemson and Jim Harbaugh performs a virgin sacrifice on Bo's grave to get a win over Alabama.

A Michigan-Ohio State championship game. His will be done.
