I beat the Ultimate first try with a mixed-physical and mage party.

Cloud w/Finishing Touch
Rinoa w/Sorceress's Awakening
Yuffie w/Clear Tranquil and Gauntlet (used both)
Garnet w/Dagger of Resolve (died before she could use it)
Tyro w/Sentinel's Grimoire

Lost Garnet in Wave 3 but still got all medals except one for damage. I fully admit my specific relics helped a LOT though and not everyone can field that kind of setup.

For MC3s they will hand out 1 blank one in most events and occasionally special events give some (Upcoming Gold Fes will have 1 in the casino for example). This means you can expect 3-4 per month, but each month or so another wave of characters gets triple broken, so it will be a looooooooong time before everyone is maxed out.

Luneth is a safe first MC3, since all RM4s are acquired once a character hits 99 automatically, so getting a super +xp RM makes getting all future RMs easier.

Cool. Might even just break and egg Luneth to 99 and then spend the rest of the evening running a four-person party through SunDaily :getin:

My Lucky Draw was Physician's Staff (dupe) and... Iga Blade! Needed a BSB for a Support character and now that's taken care of.

First-world problem questions: if I'm at the point where I don't really NEED to pull for anything in particular relic-wise, that probably also means I'm at the point where I could start combining duplicate 5* relics, right?

I have dupes of:

Vega 42s
Cards
Wutai Headband
Physician's Staff
Minotaur Plate
Kaiser Shield (three of these- really tempting to make an 8*)

There's nothing in here I'm really gonna kick myself for combining later, right? It's mostly all older stuff anyway.

Kaiser Shield adds to lightning damage, so it might be worth keeping two separate ones, but that depends on if you have any predilection for lighting meta, such as having Lightning's SSB or other lightning-based SSB/BSB's. If you don't and don't anticipate whaling on future lightning-based stuff, then an 8* IS really tempting and I personally would go for it because the usage now versus potential usage later equation usually weighs on the "now" side for me.

Similar on the Vega/Cards - multiple SSB's/BSB's for people that use thrown weapons. If you have a few then keeping separate so you'll have back row synergy for them might be worthwhile.

As of now, I don't think I have any Lightning-based BSB's except for Rinoa's and I don't think she can use the shield anyway.

Kaiser Shield (5*) with/without synergy

34/17 ATK, 195/126 DEF, 130/83 RES

Rydia's is bog standard mage burst in Earth flavor. The element isn't great but those are all pretty good-but within those limitations it does not stand out at all, except maybe for counting as Summon for Summon Nightmares.

Rest of the banner is pretty great CM stuff, if you have top tier stuff in general you probably won't notice it.

(For instance it has Edward's Hastemarch, but Sheepsong is linearly better. It has Tellah's Attack/Mag +30% Buff, but it dooms him and is kinda ehn due to that. It has Twin Stars, which is a great buff, but it's on Porom. Etc.)

Thanks to all of you for your input. The above quote made me go back and look at specifically my IV synergy, and it's not great (1 SSB, 2 SBs), so I think I'll spend a single pull. Still leaves me 300+ Mythril in the bank.

If you weren't around for that event, I think someone said that eventually those motes will be available from some kind of event content later on down the road.

Note that only characters with natural Spellblade 5* can unlock the ability to use Spellblade 6* abilities, which means it's currently limited to Bartz, Celes, Squall, Paine, Delita and Tyro.
