I don't want to spoil the show but this is addressed. Igarashi in particular has a moment where he realizes he was being shallow and actually does like her for her personality.

I fuckin loved the manga and the art/voice direction thus far has been great, looking forward to this

Man, the direction for this show is good. I'm consistently pleased with how they animate the manga, and Sawashiro was a great choice for Nishina.
