The Pearl: A poor migrant worker is convinced to buy into a new cryptocurrency called perlcoins and strikes it rich when the currency unexpectedly takes off, but when he tries to convert his perlcoins into cash to feed his family the broker only offers him a pittance. After a long and harrowing search for someone willing to convert his windfall into real money he returns home and throws his ancient smartphone into the ocean in disgust, burying the cursed perlcoins forever.
