Just saw this tonight. I thought it was an incredibly by the numbers hero's journey film that is elevated by the visually incredible and inventive fight setpieces. And Tilda is great. But if you just take out those fights, it felt very staid - kind of like superhero films before the MCU turned up. So it kind of escapes being "the Marvel film that finally fucks up" by the skin of its teeth. This might be a symptom of being an origin story though (albeit a necessary one - magic has to be carefully introduced into the MCU). Just from the after-credits scene I kind of felt like a Strange sequel could be a lot more confident and extreme.
