There was a mildly amusing live-action adaptation based on Chick's DND tract by some nerds in Washington. It even had Chick's official approval! Considering that the movie was Kickstarted and premiered at GenCon, I don't think he realized it was at his expense. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LADLv1803Vw

Radish posted:I really appreciate the extra effort the witches put into tampering with candy. They already poisoned it all but you gotta make sure you put an evil curse on them too just to make sure. The best part of that one is that it shows how utterly divorced from reality chick was. There are zero documented cases of somebody actually poisoning neighborhood kids on Halloween. Then again the 80s were a different time when evangelicals were panicking about absolutely everything all the time.

Sadly the site that hosted them both in their entirety seems to have gone offline.

He lets his neighbor join in and some time later his daughter contracts an STD. The doctor tells the girl's parents only praying to god will help them and at the end the parents tell the poor little girl that not only will daddy stop molesting her but also Jesus will help with the STDs! This tract was so hated that Jack himself said he was ashamed of it and pulled it from circulation. You cant buy it or even read it off his site anymore but there are other sites that host it. http://www.fmh-child.org/Lisa.html

you kinda forget that people genuinely believed that stuff because its become so well known as myths and stories now a days. Inferior Third Season posted:I went to a Catholic high school for freshman and sophomore year, and one of the girls in religion class asked if witchcraft was real, and the teacher said that it could work, but it was really the devil doing his devil tricks, and not some earth goddess or whatever. Of course, a group of students from the class got together and tried some witch spells, and nothing happened, and a few of them ended up rejecting Catholicism as a whole because their witchcraft didn't work like they were told it would (clearly, in this instance, the devil's sneaky trick was not letting the witchcraft work). I always wondered why they talk about witchcraft and bullshit like that when its clearly not real. I assume its because the bible has magic in it and if magics not real=bible isn't real=god isn't real kinda deal. i remeber there was that one about the baby vampire that goes to bite the virgin Christian girl and she basically says that magic cant harm christians or some bullshit. so idk.

BooDoug187 posted:No, I have to say the craziest one is "Lisa" You know what's hosed up? I respect Lisa. I mean, I respect that Chick had the conviction to illustrate that tract. His belief system did stipulate that the most heinous of motherfuckers would receive heavenly pardon and spend eternity with the Lord if they repented and asked forgiveness for their sins. Whatever those might have been. Pulling it was cowardly. Lisa is the endgame of your belief system, Jack. If you pulled it, you should've pulled all of it.

Interestingly the catholic church always denied that witchcraft was real, people got burnt for heresy if they insisted on saying that they had real powers instead of simply having been deceived by the devil as the inquisition "explained" to them. Even so there were very few executions of witches in the south, that was largely a protestant phenomenon. I think there was even a papal bull instructing clerics that so called witches were insane and to have great care in their inquisition (by the standards of the time).

The evangelicals I grew up around simultaneously believed that magic was literally real and that there were people who practiced it and that literally everybody that claimed to practice magic was a fake using stage magic and sleight of hand because nobody can actually use magic. Similarly they believed in the same "God will forgive literally anything if you ask nicely enough" thing that Chick had going on while also believing that God will punish you for the sins of the father and that black people were thus stained and had a harder time getting into Heaven. They were not the most consistent people.

Depends on what timeframe you're talking about, there was a time in the 16th, 17th and early 18th century where quite a few theologians abandoned the old belief of magic as satanic trickery and instead came to the conviction that it was real (but still evil and satanic in origin, of course). This coincided with the great witch scare of the early modern era in both Catholic and Protestant territories (though not all of them; in some areas, nobody was sentenced for witchcraft at all, while in others thousands had to die during that time)

I hope that after Mr. Chick's death, his biggest legacy is this image, hanging around in poster form all over the place, encouraging us all to party and have great times like this awesome Satan advises. There will be someone else to fill his shoes and draw racist Jewish caricature professors of biology get fake-destroyed by Mary Sue Christians students discrediting evolution while the professor sweats, though, because hateful zealots, as it turns out, aren't hard to come by.
