There was a good thing I read a while ago (might have been a twitter thread, I don't even remember where I saw it) where healer is often a thankless job because it's necessary, but does not actually advance the primary goal of a raid (kill the boss). Playing DPS is fun because you contribute progress towards the goal, but all healers can do is slow progress towards failure. You can always stack more DPS to make a raid go faster but stacking more healers ends up just being redundant and too many just slows things down. So they get treated with an attitude of "you are only here because we couldn't get away with fewer healers".

I mean they literally are if nobody else can heal properly, you can do without any of the other classes but you can't do without the person that gives you infinite health as long as you don't take damage too quickly.

Some games might allow other classes to perform that function too, but in games where you have a healer, who heals, and everyone else, who doesn't, the game absolutely requires the presence of a healer because that is simply a bar you have to clear because the game doesn't work without them.

One of the reasons why I like City of Heroes so much is that it never had a dedicated healer class. The game was specifically designed to work without one. There are dedicated support classes, but even in the support power set that has the most direct healing, said healing is the least useful thing that power set can do. Buffs and debuffs are much more valuable and even the support classes can blast enemies so they have something to do after dropping all their buffs/debuffs. And although they are helpful, they are still not mandatory - basically any team composition is viable since every class is fairly self-sufficient and teams are just force multipliers.

Skyrim has been around long enough that basically all the actually interesting gameplay mods have already been made, so all that's left is a thousand variations on fetish mods going down ever deeper rabbit holes. The same thing happened to Oblivion.

You can toggle a NSFW filter in the options but since AI dungeon learns from the internet, and the internet turns out to have a lot of weird horny stuff, it still gets weird and I've seen the AI spit some lewdness at me even with the filter on so I'm not convinced the NSFW filter is powerful enough to resist the collective force of fanfic.net

My guess on how this might work is that there are two models, one trained on the full fanfic.net archive and another trained with any of the NSFW stories filtered out, and turning it on or off just swaps which model you're using, but since it would rely on stories being tagged correctly (which not all of them are), even the filtered model would have some horny training data in there.

I wonder what the overlap is between people who are nostalgic for this and people who complain about DRM.

C'Thun at least was on accident, and they nerfed him after the aptly named guild Elitist Jerks showed the math that proved you literally couldn't beat him even under perfect circumstances.

Yeah WoW never intentionally designed their raids to be unbeatable to my knowledge, it's just that in the early days their internal testing on raid content was not great and a lot of their first drafts at dungeons ended up being way harder than they intended.

Wasn't there a similar drama in Minecraft modding a while back? Where a modder put explicit checks in their mod to see if specific other mods were running and would deliberately crash the game if that was the case? Not because there was incompatibility between them, but simply because he personally felt that those mods were "bad".

Take Two, though I’ve never been clear on how that came about.

They had a partial stake in Bungie when the MS buyout happened, so as part of the deal they got the rights to a few of their IPs (Myth and Oni I think) while the rest of it went to Microsoft.

It’s actually funny in that the dark souls is rarely important to the main game but is extremely important to both the DLC for 1 and 3

Honestly they I wouldn't be surprised if they came up with the title before they wrote any of the lore. They already knew it had to be called "(Something) Souls" but not "Demon's Souls 2" and hey "Dark" sounds pretty gothic fantasy. When it came time to make the DLC for DS1 that was probably the first time they'd thought about what the "Dark Soul" even was.

Pretty sure that's sensationalized. It definitely had an impact in amateur animation (with SFM, I believe?), but professionals use different tools with different workflows.

Nevertheless, adult content communities are often remarkably friendly.

I do wonder if the rise of SFM porn has led to a lot of people becoming animators because it's a tool that's designed to be easy to use and making porn means it'll be easy to find an audience. Like the professionals may use different tools but I bet there's an amateur -> professional pipeline that didn't exist before thanks to SFM porn.

You know how a certain type of sports fan has to have sport in every aspect of their life? A living room full of memorabilia, a bedroom with themed surfaces, even a toilet seat with their team logo.

Some people are like that but with horny, their ability to compartmentalize or erect boundaries completely sandblasted away.

This is the thing that's always the most confusing to me. At least the various horny companion mods I can understand because there's interaction there and you can build a fantasy around it. The stuff that just randomly throws up horny posters everywhere or replaces menu images is just like, do you go into some kind of withdrawal if you go more than 5 seconds without seeing tits?

The Legion does have non-white members, though. Caesar built his army by conquering and assimilating dozens of disparate tribes. Ulysses from Lonesome Road is a dark-skinned guy with dreadlocks, and he speaks at length about how his tribe was annexed, how he ended up being a member of the Legion, and how he rose to a relatively important and trusted position within it. So even the cartoonishly evil video game fascists are somehow slightly less racist than this idiot modder

TBH this is fairly accurate to how the actual Roman empire operated as well despite all the modern fascist reinterpretation of their history. "Race" is a thing people did not give a poo poo about in ancient times, what language you spoke or what religion you followed was way, way more important than what colour your skin was. People always try to argue "historical accuracy" to put some sort of objective "this is simply how things were, I'm not racist, I'm just very interested in racist periods of history, for no particular reason" spin on these things when all the history they're "depicting" is more revisionist than the stuff they're replacing.

The important thing about the BOTW approach is that it also lets you just go directly to the end boss whenever you feel like you're ready, rather than what a lot of open world games do which is have the main story be a full dozens of hours long thing on its own that is mandatory to complete before you can get to the ending. That's where you run into that "oh I may have overleveled for this" problem because those longer main paths tend to be scaled with the assumption that player will be mixing in main story quests with side content as they go along, even though it's very well known that a lot of players have an obsession with exhausting all the side content before they touch anything in the main story.

The funniest part is that, because they're cybernetics, cybercocks can have Capacity - space for integrated gadgets and electronics. Want a big floppy wang that incorporates a grappling hook and a remote detonator? Well my friend,

I checked out X-Piratez after RPS did a feature on it and it's like...as a work of technical craft, it is hugely impressive. As a work of game design, it's got a maximalist approach that means a typical playthrough is going to be, like, 500 hours, which is not my jam but probably a feature for people who are into it. And plotwise it's got some interesting ideas with lots of mediocre writing accreted around them.

But it's also just so extremely horny all the time about everything forever, and since the author appears to have grabbed every piece of big titted fanart on the net to include in it, it's not even stylistically consistent in its horniness. It kind of wraps around to the point where it feels like it's meant to be titillating to someone but I can't figure out who, or even necessarily what species they are.

Still wouldn't recommend it to someone out of the blue, though :whoptc:

I think the argument is that it's going for a Heavy Metal kind of thing with the horniness, where it's just part of the aesthetic, but as you say it's very stylistically inconsistent, probably because a lot if it is sourced from the internet rather than done by a single artist with a cohesive vision. I guess that's inevitable for a mod project but it does feel like one of those "there was a way to pull this off, but they didn't quite get there" situations where they don't quite make it over the line of "gratuitous" into "art" (granted Heavy Metal could also be argued to be like this but it has the excuse of "we're going to make comics full of sex and violence in an age when comics are heavily censored" being a bit bolder than just being horny on the internet).
