The basic concept, being a pirate in an alien controlled world, is honestly neat. It's also like the only total conversion of open xcom unless I'm mistaken. The problem arises when the massive amount of porn comes in. I think the only things that don't have some form of nude image related to it are the ships. The guy behind it is really bad at balance and explaining how things work too. You have a billion things you can make while only a few are actually useful.

It reminds me that one of the customization things I always wanted for power armor was to be able to mount bones and furs and poo poo on it for a really tribal look.

Gave the mod a runthrough last night and I gotta echo (hah) those complaints. It was interesting that it pushed the horror aspect of headcrabs, like trying to make a black mesa version of ravenholm, but zombies are just such a non-threat in HL1. On the other hand, it decided to throw multiple alien grunts and vortigaunts at you when your only weapons were the pistol and a shotgun. There was also something of a plot with Eli Vance narration and a giant friendly alien that I did not understand. Just really weird design choices. At least the times you interact with the security and science teams are fun.

Final Fantasy 14 has seen a surprising amount of growth in its mod scene over the last year. It started out as basically just a nude mod behind a paywall because of loving course it did, but after some dudes made a texture editor people have been making a lot of cool/dumb stuff. Also more nude mods.     They also really hate putting mods on the nexus apparently. Everything is posted on discord which makes it a bitch to find anything in particular.

That got SE pissed about things for a while, though I don't remember all the details.

https://openxcom.org/ Open xcom is the open source version that has a bunch of quality of life improvements. All you need for it is a copy of ufo defense, the downloads page has instructions. The pirate themed thing you're thinking of is a mod for open xcom called xpiratez. Itt has some interesting ideas but it's basically just porn and only very lightly pirate themed.
