Reposting a neat thing I found about how the handoff of all the POTUS social media accounts will work. Digital Transition quote:On Twitter, for example, the handle @POTUS will be made available to the 45th President of the United States on January 20, 2017. The account will retain its more than 11 million followers, but start with no tweets on the timeline. @POTUS44, a newly created handle maintained by NARA, will contain all of President Obama’s tweets and will be accessible to the public on Twitter as an archive of President Obama’s use of the account. In addition, President Obama’s tweets will also be archived at NARA, where they will be preserved and accessible in the same manner as all other Presidential records. This will also be the case for other Twitter handles, including @WhiteHouse, @FLOTUS, @PressSec, and @VP. Individual official accounts, like @KS44, will transition to NARA and continue to be accessible for the public to view as an archive of all tweets sent by White House staff. And this immortal moment in time:

Is this something that would be worth getting off my lazy rear end for? Do it, you might regret missing the chance. I'd go early, there's a good chance they'll hit capacity and start turning people away.

The gently caress are mesh highlights. And two or three pounds gained since high school, what a hag.

Maybe we should've picked her over Obama in 2008, considering we are getting killed in the streets and not much has changed. Well man, if you're not raging people aren't calling Hillary flawless either. Do you really need to do the bad relationship "I just think it's funny how..." distancing from your own opinions to come out with them? We're in the last week of the election, the stakes are high, and her presidency hasn't even started yet. Forgive us if no one feels like arguing policy with someone who hasn't even read up on what Hillary's policies are for her presidency she hasn't even won yet. And you're doing the frustratingly common layman politics thing of thinking everything we do in this country goes through the executive branch. Police seizure is a big thing, but the president doesn't have jack poo poo to do with it.

It's too late to matter now, but I'd have liked to see more reporting about how much Team Trump utterly fails at retail politics. You have Trump himself attacking his own supporters like the whole debacle with the fire department, Suckerfish Trump stealing lemonade, and a million little un-aggregated stories of Trump being just incessantly, reflexively rude to everyone he encounters. Even Bush Jr. had an undeniable charisma in person - you could totally understand how he charmed people on a 1:1 basis and overrode their critical thinking. Trump doesn't have that skill. Everyone who's ever had to deal with him face to face hates him.

I already early-voted in California and this part of the ballot took the most research by far. The judges all had identical personal statements about how they believed in fairness, which is nice and all but I really want to know about things like how they feel about minimum sentencing, punitive vs. rehabilitative justice, trying minors as adults, and how cozy they are with the cops and the DAs. I don't know that I made perfect choices. The most useful info I found was their list of endorsements - Policeman's Union = No Thanks, for instance. What state do you live in? Avatar Man is John Franklin Stephens, an anti-ableism activist affiliated with the Special Olympics who wrote this letter to Ann Coulter after her "doing a standard retard" gem dropped. The avatar image is cropped from this shot of him addressing a crowd of people as he often does in his role as a Special Olympics Global Messenger. He's done more good in the world than nearly anyone posting here, and abusing a photo of him taken on a day he was rightfully happy and proud is a special kind of cruel that should not be tolerated here.

A Winner is Jew posted:Nope. Barbara Mertz has a bit in one of her excellent Egyptology books (either Red Land, Black Land or Temples, Tombs, and Heiroglyphs - read them both) about how the modern scholar tends to reflexively revise any mentions an ancient Egyptian makes about believing in magic. "They couldn't possibly have meant literal magic spells. They're so sophisticated and smart." But people did then and people do now believe in literal demons. People capable of driving cars and operating twitter accounts are still entirely possibly as sincere in their belief that the world is riddled with magic as anyone in the past. Not to contradict you but to underline what you're saying: Sometimes people calling Hillary a devil don't just mean they hate her, they mean they think she's an actual devil.

FactsAreUseless posted:Yes, and I'm not saying we shouldn't be aware of it. I'm saying I think white guilt is a way for white people to make the suffering of others actually be about them, and that we would have a moral duty to help people regardless of whether we benefited from it. White guilt is an inevitable and harmless step on the journey of learning about privilege and intersectionality. If someone never progresses farther than that that's a problem, but I don't like to condemn it particularly because it's a pretty much unavoidable reaction any decent person would have when learning history from anything but a white dude perspective.
