The one thing I like about Kodi over Plex is how quickly I can bounce through videos on Kodi. On Kodi if I press right, it skips a bit forward. If I press up, it skips even more. I can fly through old rear end SNL episodes I have with ease, trying to find my favorite sketches. On Plex my only option ever is to fast forward or rewind and it annoys the poo poo out of me.

Bloody posted:how is it clunkier than a raspi with some computer janitor poo poo set up I personally find Kodi quite a bit faster. With everything; navigating, loading the files, etc. Also the aforementioned thing where I can bounce around any video file with ease in Kodi but I'm stuck to slow seeking bullshit on Plex. I typically use Plex though.

trilljester posted:I've never had any issues searching Plex. Results come up instantly. Searching is quick in Plex; I just meant I find Kodi is way quicker with going through lists and folders since it lets you brows by text only mode, which I find way better (jam as much into my screen as possible at once, as opposed to gargantuan icons so only 6 things can be seen on my TV at a time).

Ciaphas posted:can kodi do internal network server things The performance is better with Kodi but it's a moot point because you can't run Kodi on the PS4. But yes, Kodi on my HTPC (NVIDIA Shield tv) is way quicker with loading and seeking through videos. But Plex is definitely better for simplicity and for playing your videos on things like phones.

Cocoa Crispies posted:constant access to all previous content is the hoarder mindset Not being able to watch any full SNL episode from 1975 to 2001 because NBC is too cheap to pay music licensing fees is no way to live life either. The media is sitting on a device that's the size of two decks of cards. How is digital hoarding even remotely a bad thing wtf I don't necessarily always want to watch Portlandia or The Mindy Project

Not to mention I don't think Netflix has my wedding video or the video of my child's first steps.
