I'm caught up, and so are all of you! No missing emails.

We're taking signups for the main round through Friday night (and maybe a few on Saturday morning, depending on what time I get around to this). We're at 59 goons participating so far, around 25 fewer than in the main round last year. Possibly because we're going a little earlier, but still, I hope we can fill up a bit more! (OK, maybe growing every year is unrealistic, I dunno.)

Of course we already have enough goons to make a good secret santa, so no worries.

FFG is having a holiday sale. I realize you guys don't have your Santees yet, so it'd be tough to guess what to buy for someone. But, there still seems to be some ridiculous bargains on here, so maybe getting a thing or two that might work for your Santee, but if not, you could give to someone else (or just keep)?

Love me some Covert Claus.

Gift Preferences: I love RPG books. I have a pretty big collection (most editions of D&D, just about everything by Greg Stolze, more White Wolf than I can shake a stick at) but there's all sorts of neat stuff out there. I'd love a copy of the new Delta Green, Ken Hite's Trail of Cthulhu (or any of the supplements), or similar mythosy tomes, but I realize most of those are out of the exchange price range. I have a ton of Powered by the Apocalypse stuff, so that might not be the best idea. I also play miniatures wargames (Malifaux at the moment), and would love any sort of Old West or victorian themed 28mm scale tabletop terrain. Neat wargaming systems or just cool miniatures are also neat, especially if they fit in a single rulebook. As a note, I spend my work day staring at computer screens with .pdfs on them, so I'd much prefer a physical gift.

Actually, the USPS offers its lowest shipping rate for books, so shipping should be uniformly lower for any book being shipped domestically in the US (FFG is based in Minnesota, for reference), unless the vendor is forcing the customer to shell out for UPS or FedEx for no reason. I did a quick check, and your average-length hardcover RPG book (FFG's stock and trade) weighs in at about 2.6 pounds. That's in the ballpark of four dollars in shipping using the book rate. For paperbacks of the same size, it's about half that weight, and costs just shy of three bucks in shipping (smaller books cost negligibly less, as there's a price floor below 16 ounces). If shipping is more than that for a book being shipped within the United States, you're being needlessly overcharged. :eng101:

(If you're going to go this route maybe get in touch with me through Leperflesh and I'll give you the whole list.) I am more than willing to get stuff at random, and dongs are certainly welcome. Yeah in addition to not offering book rate (which is actually fairly unusual to see as an offering), they're really only offering two relatively premium shipping options: a ~3 day USPS one, and a more expensive carrier. That's dumb. They'd save their own customers a lot of money - and therefore likely make a lot more sales, total - if they offered the full range of USPS options, plus at the full range of options from a third-party shipper (UPS or FedEx are the most common). This isn't even hard to do, there are plenty of shopping cart software packages that basically build it in and automate label printing for you.

I would also still appreciate some danger.

Gift Preferences: I am working on several Early WW2 (1939-41) armies in three scales (6mm, 15mm, and 28mm). Anything associated with that would be great! Terrain, figures, paints, cool rules sets, or non-fiction books. (If you don't do historicals, I mean French, early German, Belgian, or Polish figures, rural or European buildings, trees and fences, telegraph poles, etc.) I'm also not particular about something being new, as most of this stuff can be gotten second hand for cheap.

General Location: Pennsylvania USA.

Solemn Vow: I will gift my Santee with a more than adequate amount of cheer!

Gift Preferences

I would like gaming stuff if possible! I play/paint minis and play a few RPGs (mostly D&D 5E and World Wide Wrestling), as well as some card/board games.

For minis, I mostly play/paint sci-fi/post-apocalyptic/cyberpunk stuff - Infinity Nomads (stuff that I already own can be seen in my army list posts), or Necromunda (Delaque/Escher/Scavvy). The only fantasy I really play is Frostgrave, making up "evil" warbands out of (mostly Slaaneshi) Chaos, Dark Elves and Orcs/Goblins. Anything that fits these themes, or good source models/bits for conversions would work well. My posts in the oath threads might help too. Quality paints and stuff wouldn't go amiss either.

Card/board games are more of the party/creative variety, rather than serious, long and rules-dense stuff. Or all-in-one games like Wings of War or Tanks. My BGG collection can be found here. I mainly play D&D, but find post-apoc/cyberpunk rulesbooks interesting reads, and there are still some skirmish games of that genre I've yet to try.

If in doubt, you can probably get some useful information out of kilinrax.

I would not like scenery/terrain as I play at a club. 40k-specific stuff, Spess Mehreens are no good to me but more generic stuff like Guard could work. Kittens/Munchkin/CAH or CCGs. Or dongs.

General location: London, UK

Shipping: Would prefer UK, but can do Europe if needs be!

Solemn Vow: I promise not to ruin Christmas for one goon. The one I’m assigned.

Bonus: Whoever I send to will probably end up with a demo CD or two that get sent to the music company I work at, which we never listen to.

Gift Preferences
Oh, boy... I always have the most difficult time with this part, but goons are always amazing at figuring out cool things to send. My husband and I are both fans of boardgames, but it's just the two of us, so we'd prefer games that could be played with two players; however, don't let that be a deal breaker for you, if you have something neat you'd like to send--occasionally we have boardgame nights with friends. We've been eyeing the new expansion for Betrayal at House on the Hill (thanks, bonus Santa!), the new Cthulhu Pandemic (thanks, Santa!), and Sushi Go Party (thanks again, bonus Santa!), if you like specific suggestions or ideas (but don't feel like you have to do that).

We just got Imperial Assault, and we just got into X-Wings, so we don't have enough experience with either to really know what to ask for at this stage. If you feel like there's something we can't live without in either line, go for it. We have quite a few ships for just getting started, so it might be worth checking with us, if you want to go this route. For Imperial Assault, we have the core game, Greedo, and the Bespin expansion.

Also, I'm a big Nintendo fan, Batman fan, and we have two cats.

Here's my list on Board Game Geek, if that's helpful. :)

Please do not send
Sex toys/dongs, dead bugs, anything living, CAH/Exploding Kittens/Munchkin/Fluxx/similar games, anime, or any sort of "virtual" gift, because I am a babby who loves opening physical gifts from strangers since it's generally the only gift(s) I receive

Come with me
if you want to live.
I have been trying to work up the grit to join this for three years now, but this time I'm gonna do it.

Gift Preferences:
I love indie-style narrativist storygame RPGs. The Quiet Year, Fellowship, Fiasco, Leverage, and World Wide Wrestling are all games I've picked up recently that I loved.
I love and collect weird RPGs in general. Toon, Dragon Ball Z, Street Fighter, TMNT, Hot Guys Making Out, Cat, and The Warren are all games in my collection. Quality is not really important here, but "why did someone write this" is. If there is some goofy-rear end RPG for idiots thats been collecting dust on your FLGS's used RPGs shelf, I'm probably interested.
I love games that are fast, casual, and that you can fit into a Magic deckbox. I carry Love Letter, Sushi Go, and Hanabi in my travel cardbox because by god I can't just play Magic all night.
I guess I also play Magic, I'm getting back into it from a years-long hiatus so I don't have a whole lot to mess with right now, as evidenced by taking an unmodified Chandra Planeswalker deck to a recent Friday Night Magic.
Outside of specifically trad-games stuff, I love Marvel (esp. Captain America/Iron Man/Hawkeye), I love cute stuff, I love stuffed animals, I love obscure 90s cartoon kitsch, I love local stuff you can only get from one place.

I much prefer physical hard copies to PDFs, because I can pore over them without eyestrain and because you get to open them, but if you know of a really, really bizarre/fancy/secret RPG that only comes in PDF, maybe give it to me on a flash drive or something!

I do not love dongs. Please do not send me dongs. I'm also not really big on entry-level nerd stuff, Fluxx/Munchkin/CaH/Funko Pop/etc, and I am really not sure what I'd do with miniatures unless they're something really something unusual, like the D&D-scale surfer guy I still need to figure out how to paint.

Third year's a charm!

Gift Preferences: Here's where I'd tell you that I'm mostly into RPGs. At least, I would if it weren't for the fact that my only regular game in the past couple of years is weekly 5th Edition D&D. :suicide:
But when I was playing interesting RPGs, my preferences were primarily of the indie and tactical varieties.

I do have a slowly expanding collection of board and card games. Things with a low player count that can be explained quickly would probably end up hitting the table more often than intricate games that work best with five or more players. We've got a local Netrunner scene. Other LCGs might be good possibilities, too; the Netrunner guys seem to dabble in a little of everything. If you're completely stumped, I'm pretty sure there are a couple Board Game Thread favorites that I don't already own.

As far as miniatures are concerned, I haven't explored them too much. I tried X-Wing and Warmachine (Khador faction) for a bit. They seemed pretty cool, but other time commitments stifled any more dabbling. Other than that, I have a feeling that skirmish and small publisher stuff is more up my alley.

If you want to check out the games I already have for whatever reason, here are my RPG and board game collections. I've also got an interest in game design in general, so books on that topic (other than Characterics of Games) would be cool, too. Lastly, I would prefer something physical if possible, and print on demand is fine.

Please, no
  • Dice (unless they're really cool)
  • D&D (I have enough)
  • Games Workshop products
  • Munchkin or its ilk
  • Skeevy stuff
  • Live or dead animals
  • Dongs

Gift Preferences: I love trad game stuff!

In general: I much prefer boardgames that are more reliant on skill than luck, and love games that feature a lot of interaction with the other players. Quick card games that I can call my friends names over are always good, but I'd love any game that you like :)
My favourites are probably: Dominion (and Intrigue), Coup + Reformation, Welcome to the Dungeon, Kemet + Ta Seti, Blood Rage, Codenames,
Here's a list of what I/ my friends own: geeklist. If you're looking for specifics, I've got a general wishlist I use to keep track of things, but feel free to totally ignore that!

RPGs: unfortunately, I've looked at my collection and realised my to-play backlog is pretty extreme, so I'd probably prefer not to get an RPG book unless it's something you really love!

If you're looking for something different, I genuinely enjoy just gluing and/ or painting models, particularly monsters (esp. Reaper Bones monsters) or creepy human cultists. The frostgrave cultists look really cool. I'm totally in to sci-fi and fantasy books: my favourite authors are probably Scott Lynch/ Iain M. Banks/ China Mieville and anything with similar black humour/ cutting dialogue would be loved.

Please no: anime, dongs, dice, exploding kittens, munchkin, fluxx

Alright kids now it's time for
LIGHTNING BONUS ROUNDS!

Lightning bonus rounds are how you take part in the Trad Games Secret Santa thing after the deadline for the main round is passed. It's also how you can be greedy and exchange more than one present with your fellow goons!

Beginning today (November 19th), and continuing until no later than December 10th, we will have a series of extra bonus rounds and YOU can participate. The LIGHTNING BONUS ROUNDS work a lot like the main round. All of the rules apply except for the deadline for application. Re-read the rules in the OP just in case you forgot them.

OK so to sign up I post in the thread and send you an email?
Correct. You must do this even if you participated in the main round. Post in the thread. If you already participated in the main round you can link to your original post or just quote it to show your gift preferences. You must send an email to tgsecretsanta@gmail.com as well; if you already sent one this year I don't need your address again, but I do need another email regardless. My response to that email is your only confirmation that you've successfully signed up.

What then?
I will end each LIGHTNING BONUS ROUND according to whichever of the following things happens first:
  • 8 people sign up
  • 7 days have passed and at least 3 people signed up
  • We reach December 10th

Once each round closes I'll randomize the participants in the round and you all exchange gifts. You immediately fire off a Trad Games Present at your Santee, and they do the same! And of course the instant one LIGHTNING BONUS ROUND ends, the next one begins.

What about international shipping? :ohdear:
You can still tell me you prefer not to ship internationally – if it's impossible for you, let me know and I'll try to make sure that doesn't happen. But if you live outside the US it's particularly hard to ensure you don't have to ship internationally. Bear in mind that you can always buy something online from a store that operates in your target country and thereby avoid expensive shipping costs. (You might have to pay a currency exchange fee but that is typically much less money.) If I get a pool that contains nobody else in your country, I will contact you to check if you'd rather sit out to the next round.

It's better though if LIGHTNING BONUS ROUND participants can all ship internationally. Remember, you can always just order something online from the destination country: you usually just need a credit card.

So then what's the shipping deadline?
Of course, as we close in on Christmas day, you will have less and less time in which to accomplish purchase, shipping, and delivery. You'll have to pick an appropriate delivery option and be certain whatever you're buying is either in your hands, or definitely in stock at the retailer of your choice. You are still supposed to ship your item by no later than December 13th, and it should arrive no later than December 19th! This is part of the challenge! But it probably means that you won't have time to make a hand-made gift or wait for something that is out of stock to get restocked. Strongly consider ordering online from a major retailer with a strong reputation for shipping things immediately.

ROUND ONE BEGINS NOW GO!

I did this thing last year and both gave and received delight, but forgot about it until lightning round this year.

Gift Preferences: Fantasy/Steampunk wargame scenery, or a really cool board game. I play both Warmahordes and Frostgrave, so whatevs, you probably can't go wrong with a cool, unique piece of terrain or two. My board game collection is a little slim as I mostly TTG. Maybe a cool board game about like the Cold War and ideological struggles or something? I like The Star Wars, and play the heck out of X-Wing, so there's not much I don't already have, aside from maybe like neat third party swag like the BF in a box laser towers and asteroids. If you can find it second hand to come in under the exchange rate I'd love either the Force and Destiny or EotE RPG books for the SWRPG. Oh, I have a bit of an interest in maybe doing WWII soviet miniature stuff, but anything to start me off there in all but the most token of ways probably busts the budget.

This has been a little meandering because more than most years I just want to give and receive cheer. I'm sort of a compulsive completest so I am probably hard to shop for for TTG stuff anyway. Maybe surprise me. No manga/anime please and thanks.
