So Chris wants to personally get the Staff of Soloman back. Okay. I'm not sure why she doesn't just work with Tsubasa, fight her way through to Ver, beat the poo poo out of him, and take it. Y'know, like they were presumably planning to do from the start? Maaaaan Kirika and Shirabe's Battle Duet.

For as popular a ship as Tsubasa/Maria is, I'm a little surprised that Maria's debut season seems to have waaaay more Tsubasa/Chris in it.

Finished Symphogear G. That was really good. Straight upgrade on the original in nearly every regard, IMO. The only complaint is I felt like the 'villains' were a bit messy this time around. The gear wielders are all good enough characters, but I only briefly took Maria seriously as a threat or felt like I could pretend that I didn't already know she joins the team for GX, and I never took Kirika and Shirabe seriously as threats. I mean, look at them, they're adorable, and they never even scratch our heroes. Then Mom is just kinda boring, and Ver doesn't have all that much going on besides WHEEEEEEE CRAZY LOOK AT MY loving FACE, and the whole plan just feels kind of haphazard and ill-explained at points. That's all nitpicking though, because you're not watching Symphogear for well written and deeply thought out textual narratives - you're watching it because you want to watch a gay-as-hell J-Pop Opera with awesome fight scenes, great music, and likable fighters, and G delivers that in spades. The fights are great, the choreography is consistently really good, the sound design almost always gives each blow exactly the right amount of heft, the songs are excellent, the couples are adorable and (in their melodramatic and scenery-devouring way) understandable, and while the reliance on big end-of-episode cliffhangers gets a little predictable at points, those are still some drat good cliffhangers. If Symphogear's first season was a B+ in my book, G's an A. Looking forward to starting GX tomorrow. Spiritus Nox fucked around with this message at 04:53 on Nov 10, 2016 |

Finished Symphogear GX's first ep. It was real good, not sure if it was as good as G's premier. Hibiki remains awesome. Feels like we introduced a lot of new characters. The last cliffhanger felt a bit forced WHEN AND WHY DID YOU TAKE OFF YOUR SYMPHOGEAR SUIT, HIBIKI? though. Anyway, looking forward to more.

I do not understand why so many people who liked the motion controls just fine in Splatoon lost their goddamn minds when Star Fox did it. I thought it made precise aiming way easier, and for all the people pissing and moaning about switching from watching the TV screen to the gamepad, pretty much the only times I did it were when I was trying to line up a precise shot on Star Wolf or a big boss - both situations where I generally didn't have to give a gently caress what was happening immediately around the ship.

Attack on Titan is really cool until you realize that the core characters aren't actually anywhere close to as vulnerable as the show initially tricks you into thinking they are, and until you realize that it doesn't really have anything to say rather than some fairly generic rubbish about "HARD PEOPLE have to do HARD THINGS to SURVIVE."

I really have no strong feelings on the idea or casting of a GITS movie, partly because the series never really clicked for me. But nothing I've seen from the western movie's staff or marketing has really excited me at all.

Last episode I remember was Makoto visiting a public chatroom with a bunch of people talking about the Laughing Man, then the episode ends on a gag by revealing she was absent-mindedly driving herself and Bato somewhere the whole time she was jacked in. I liked what I watched, but nothing really blew me away, so when I fell off I just never got back on.

Ping Pong Girls is okay. Not life changing or anything, but it's a little like New Game in that it's pretty unambitious and cutesy but pretty good at meeting its own modest goals.
