Just caught up. This game is pretty adorable. Marona's true reward for this chapter is obviously making a friend... her parents won't be able to pay her, but seriously, having a friend right now really will be the best reward ever. It's not like the rear end in a top hat jackal can steal a friend, right? They already know she's the possessed, so spilling those beans won't change anything.

Dick move, Castile's dad. Dick move. Begging forgiveness for not being able to pay is one thing, but hiring someone and then going and cheating them out of the contract with fraud? Dick move. Committing said blatant fraud and THEN begging forgiveness doesn't really cut it. gently caress that poo poo.

The story would likely have a VERY different feel if we were actually relying on getting paid to survive. There's a bit of ludonarrative dissonance in that we're told we're not getting paid, but every monster we kill actually puts money in our pockets. If that wasn't there, and money only came from end of quest rewards, and we STILL got stiffed... I think players would be a LOT more upset about it. The game would have to be restructured fairly significantly to manage this, of course. Because being unable to heal between fights because you have no money would suck, which sounds about the video game equivalent of not being able to afford groceries. Now I'm thinking a pro-socialist game about overcoming the oppressive bourgeoisie with that kind of gameplay would be interesting...
