Then they voted for the guy Obama said would not be a good president.

Far from being arbitrary, those seem like the only ways of marking it that make sense.

So you have two different measures: one that starts on the first day of a month and encompasses the next two months which is less accurate but easier to remember for the layman, and another one which is trickier to remember but a great deal more specific and based off of a very specific natural occurrence. Even in the first model you're picking it so that it roughly maps to the second one.

Arbitrary would be like if you flipped a coin to decide it or something.

Yes except it doesn't matter when the seasons start so accuracy is irrelevant.

I'm talking about serious movies, not idiotic comic book movies. Any movie with "vs" in the title is doomed. It will still make money though because somehow hollywood convinced people that comic book movies = worth seeing so they will watch literally anything as long as it has the comic book logo on it. Batman vs Superman still grossed over 300 million dollars, and it's not because the movie was good.

I read somewhere that it is mostly a case of cultural mores not adapting to economical/social reality. Sex out of wedlock or at least outside of a relationship that's definitely steering towards marriage is considered a no-no by many people. But as the current ideal of a relationship apparently still is one where the man supports the entire family while the woman becomes a housewife, in this economy this means that many women won't date men because they're stuck in lovely jobs/men don't bother dating because they feel that because of their being stuck in lovely jobs means that they don't have the “right“ to. Add to this a crazy amount of work everyone is doing and the culture still being in a weird place considering things like love, sex and romance and you have a good starting recipe for millennials not having sex.

(I have no idea about Japan so I'm just parroting what I read somewhere, maybe it's all bullshit idk)

Also prostitution probably.
