About
Final Fantasy Brave Exvius is a mobile F2P RPG from Square-Enix and the makers of Brave Frontier. It shares some minor similarities with Final Fantasy Record Keeper but it's mostly Brave Frontier with a huge coating of Final Fantasy. Using given story characters and heroes from classic FF games you form a 5-man squad to run through dungeons, fight super bosses, and even other player teams in an Arena. Your story is standard Final Fantasy fare with an evil force destroying crystals, but the music is really good.

Gameplay

So this is your Home screen. Gil and Lapis in the top corners are your currencies. Gil is used to buy equipment, items, enhance your characters, craft stuff. Lapis is the premium currency and used to roll for new premium characters and also to buy more equipment/character/friend slots. Lapis is gained via completing quests, from clearing out new areas, from finishing your Daily Quests, and from daily logins.

The Coliseum is now called the Arena and is for PVP. PVP works by having you choose another player and duel their Arena team. Each week the rankings reset and new "rules" are implemented. These rules may be things like "No Fire Magic" or "No Status Effects". Units that have a 'banned' ability can still compete but they will get an ugly red text over them in the team screen. There is a reward grid that contains special types of unit pots which can increase stats for single units to a cap, along with items and metal cactuars.

PVP is played with players taking turns one after another, with a random starting player each round of combat. Magic and Elemental chaining is pretty hot but you'll still see a ton of whales in the higher ranks running 5 Lightnings. Wins and losses are mostly based on who goes first, or if a team gets a double turn. The other player's team is controlled by the AI so sometimes you can get lucky and have the AI do something dumb.

Within the Arena is The Coliseum. The Coliseum is where you go through 10 rounds of random encounters ending with an 11th round boss. Clearing that set gets you a specific reward and opens up the next difficulty. You can get some really good stuff from the Coliseum so clear that as soon as you can.

Combat is fully turn-based unlike FF Record Keeper. Everyone on your squad will move and act before the enemy team, so there's no bullshit like getting one-shot before you even get to select an action. You can either choose units to attack in a certain order or set your commands for everyone to be unleashed at the same time. Timing your attacks to strike at the same time results in Chains/Sparks which deal bonus damage. Stacking elemental damage results in Elemental Chains and boosts damage as well. Unlike Brave Frontier this game also allows you to use preset Items and Abilities that your characters have learned or equipped. Your Limit Burst and Summon bars increase as you deal damage, the former much faster than the latter. Each character has a unique Limit Break that can level up or even change upon ranking up. Summons (or Espers as they're called here) must be equipped to be used.

This is your character screen. You can see Vivi's stats, what equipment and armor he can wear, what types and level of Magic he can use, his elemental/status weaknesses, what Magic he naturally learns, and what abilities/passives he can naturally learn. His Limit Burst experience bar is there. Each usage of the Limit Burst gives 1exp, so expect this to take forever to grind out. It's not particularly mandatory to do it since you'd probably use your Limit Burst 2-3 times in a boss fight at most but whatever helps. Trust Mastery is a unique spell, ability, passive, or even item that you receive whenever a character hits 100%. How do you reach 100% Trust Mastery? Well, every time you clear a mission there's a 10% chance that any character's Trust meter goes up 0.1%. Yeah, this is a super tedious grind. However, there are Trust Moogles you can fuse for decent percents, and fusing a same copy character will transfer over the Trust percentage with a 5% bonus.

Espers pretty much follow the FF8 Junction mechanic. Each character can equip one Esper. 1% of the Esper's stats are added to that character, and whatever abilities or passives the Esper has learned the character can use as well. Enhancing an Esper requires magicite shards that drop from dungeons or is rewarded from quests, and every level up you receive a certain number of SP. You use SP to buy those tiles to unlock stats or abilities. Espers can also rank up, opening a new outer set of tiles with stronger stat bonuses and abilities. Even though every character on your squad can equip an Esper, when your Summon bar is full it depletes completely after use, so realistically you're only going to be able to summon once a fight. Characters will also inherit an Esper's elemental strengths and weaknesses, so if Vivi had Ifrit equipped he'd have high resistance to Fire but negative resistance to Ice. And just like any classic FF game there's a special animation for Summoning.

Unlike FFRK this game actually has a world map with various areas and towns you can visit. Missions in red follow the standard X waves of enemies typically culminating in a boss fight. Missions in green are special dungeon maps where you can explore, find treasure, fight random encounters, and fight a boss. These exploration maps count as one long mission so your HP/MP won't get refreshed between fights. You have to equip items you want to take with you into the dungeon and you won't be able to restock them until you beat the boss and leave. When you first enter a town there's a bunch of NPCs who will offer you quests, and some quests will ask you to either find something or someone, or kill a certain monster. The special dungeon will usually hold the quest item you need. These dungeons are typically great in terms of XP/energy but they tend to cap out at around 20 battles to prevent people from grinding them forever. If you want the most loot and exp this is where you want to go.

These are your standard Daily dungeons. Other games tend to follow a certain schedule for Daily dungeons, like Money Sunday, or Evolution Material Monday, but in Brave Exvius you actually get to choose to open one free Daily dungeon a day. It stays open until server reset. You can pay 100 lapis to open a second Daily dungeon but it's never worth it. The four Dailies right now are Crafting Materials (get a bunch of loot used to craft stuff), Evolution Materials (you're gonna need to run a lot of this to rank characters above 3★), EXP (grinding out special dungeons will get you better XP/energy but if you're in a hurry this is much faster), and Gil (just don't).

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Server resets at 0000 PDT. Maintenence is Thursday Morning. Banners Change on Friday Morning.

You regen 1 NRG per 5 minutes

Silver chests require special keys to open. These are different than the Earth/Gale keys you find. These keys must be crafted or purchased in Real Money packages and can sometimes be obtained through login gifts.

Don’t feel bad about spending Lapis to increase friend slots in the early levels. Definitely spend some to increase crafting slots. Purchase equipment and material slots as needed. You really shouldn’t need to buy item slots.

Leveling a free summon to max and selling them gives decent gil (1★ = 4,400 | 2★ = 15,000 | 3★ - 32,000)

Explorations have a lot of secrets hidden in areas that aren’t shown on the map. Check the wiki for each zone to get all the treasures. Each Exploration also has a cap on the number of encounters, based on the total gil accumulated in certain zones of the map. The wiki will help you find the zones and gil total so you don’t waste time running around the map trying to fight enemies that will never spawn.

Arena participation rewards are a fixed "40 Lapis, an Ether, a Potion, and a Star Quartz" per day. New players should try and get those in along side doing the Coliseum.

Most of the bundles are AWFUL. Don't buy them. IF there is an exception, it will be posted about in the thread. The NRG packages are alright if you're low rank and really want to keep playing.

Add goon friends and watch as they carry you through many, many trials.

NEW PLAYER GUIDE

Getting the most out of your rolls

ALWAYS DO YOUR DAILY SUMMON (aka the 1/2 price roll)

The 1/2 price roll is extremely efficient and you’re far better served doing these than trying to save for an 11 roll on a banner. I personally rolled my only base 5★ ; on a daily pull and the unit I got was off banner.
If you are a new player, you may also wish to ignore the “Featured Summon” banner roll and just do “Rare Summons”. Some banners might not have any characters that will be useful for you and it would be better to just make a roll on a non-weighted banner.

Currently the odds of pulling a 5★ base unit from their own banner is a bit over 1%. Countless whales have posted their videos on reddit of them spending $100s before pulling the unit on banner.

As of this writing, Gold and Rainbow crystals can yield any unit that can be promoted to that level. At some point Gumi will change Gold/Rainbow crystals to always produce a unit with that base but that’s looking like it’s months away and won't improve your odds of getting a Rainbow crystal.

No matter how much you love the character, don’t skip meals or house payments to try and roll it. To put it another way:

Rerolling

All new players should reroll until they have a 5★ base unit. Notably: Noctis or Orlandu

Rerolling on your phone
The game uses Facebook as it's primary method of saving your account information so you'll need to create a fake/dummy Facebook account. To reset your data follow these steps:
  • Login/sync into dummy Facebook account. Menu > Options > Login.
  • It will warn you of discarding your existing data, accept it.
  • Logout/unsync from dummy Facebook account. Menu > Options > Logout.
  • Your game will close. Open the game again and your data will be reset.
  • Start a new game and reroll.
  • Repeat until you get desired units.

The easier way to reroll is to use an Android emulator, either Memu or Nox.
Find the guide for that here: http://exvius.gamepedia.com/How_to_reroll

What Characters are good?
Generally speaking, any character with a 5★ base is going to be good. Characters with 3 and 4 bases can be good at 5★, or great if they can eventually be taken to 6★.

Check the wiki unit rankings for details on the top characters. If you are making a new account I highly suggest you reroll until you get a unit that is in the top 3 of one of these categories. These units will help you clear content much easier and are more resistant to power creep.

None of the characters gained from friend points are good to use, except maybe the two thieves in order to help get the Stealing trophies. Rizer has a good TM as do a few of the other ones but mostly friend point units are garbage.

What about random character X, are they good?

Usefulness of a unit falls into two categories. Good in the field and good for their Trust Mastery. Shantotto and Miyuki are two marginal units in the field but they have useful TMs. Some units like Cecil are both really strong in the field and also have super powerful TMs. Warrior of Light on the other hand does not have a very good TM but is very good in the field.

As a general rule, equipment TMs are good to have so don’t sell or merge those units. Ability TMs are another story as they can be super powerful like Dual Wield or they can be garbage like Pilfer. Some TM abilities like Throw might seem useful but aren’t worth the time it takes to grind them out.

Check the wiki and if you aren’t sure if the TM is good, ask in the thread.

What Characters should I use?

You'll ideally want characters from the 5 fields. ExviusWiki ranks units by 6 fields but since there are only 5 character slots, Buffing will typically be the role of either the Breaker/Tank/Healer depending on who you have. For example Lenna has Cheer, Tilith has Rainbow Veil, Vaan and Cecil both have Focus. So far we haven't needed a character specifically to provide buffs, and many of the BAR- spells can be crafted or found. With CoD getting her 6*, she provides another avenue for elemental coverage.

Let's talk about each of the 5 roles. In each picture I've listed the 4 best options for that role that are available at 3★ or 4★, meaning you have a better chance of seeing them.

Physical Damage

These are units whose role it is to deal damage to the enemy with physical attacks. A good DPS unit will have an ability that hits very hard and very high ATK. The first 3 units on the banner here have Barrage, an attack that does four attacks, each against a randomly chosen enemy. Kain makes the list because Jump hits very hard.

Magic Damage

There's a few things you want from a Mage. One is elemental coverage, ideally you want all 3 of the basic -AGA spells(Firaga, Blizzaga, Thundaga). Second you want a high MAG. MAG is your stat for damage so you want that through the roof. Arc, ExDeath, and Tellah all fulfill both these conditions. Kefka is missing Firaga but makes up for it with two abilities that are extremely helpful(Heartless Angel, and Hyperdrive), and he also has the highest Magic stat of them all.

Healers

There are three things to look at with a healer. #1 is Curaja, currently the best mass heal spell available. #2 is Esuna, this is a single target spell that cures almost all status effects. #3 is the ability to Raise a KO'd unit, currently only Refia can do that. Tilith/Rosa/Lenna all make up for not having Raise by having abilities that buff the party like Cheer, Rainbow veil or Bless.

Tanks

Tanks are important for keeping your units alive. Tanks use abilities like Provoke(granted by Rank 2 Golem) or Draw Fire to force the enemies to attack them, or have passive abilities that allow them to jump in front of enemies to take hits for an ally like Cover. A tank has high DEF and lots of HP which allow them to take more hits, while other abilities that allow them to cover additional roles, but don't discount the basic GUARD command. Provoking and Guarding means that your tank will survive anything coming at you outside an instant death spell.

Breakers

Breakers are called such for their "Break" abilities. Some units only have 'Power Break' or 'Magic Break' but the units shown on this banner all possess 'Full Break'. Full Break is an attack that applies a debuff to ATK, DEF, MAG, and SPR of 30%. While some of the more challenging bosses released in October showed up with resistances to this, this skill remains one of the most helpful and necessary skills in the game.

So I have a bunch of the units you recommended, how should I build my teams?
From a strategy standpoint you'll want to gear and build towards having two types of teams. One that focuses on Magic damage, and another that focuses on Physical damage. Thus far, events tend to favor one type of team more than the other. Though players have done just fine with a single team that balances both.

The Mage team will be a character who can buff the MAG of the party, typically with Focus, and 4 mages who you will use to chain -ra or -ga spells one after another as fast as you can hit the button to create elemental chains which deal bonus damage. This is typically a glass cannon team but since you can output so much damage you’re looking for a turn 1 or 2 win. In my team, Cecil buffs everyone with Focus, while they chain Blizzaga/Thundaga/Hyperdrive.

The physical team is a bit more able to dish out and handle consistent damage over many turns. This team will have a Tank (for provoking the enemy and drawing attacks), a Healer (for keeping the party alive), a Breaker (someone who has access to debuffs like Full Break) and two DPS characters (responsible for dealing the damage to the enemy). In my case: Cecil is my tank, Agrias is my breaker, Tilith is my healer, leaving Lightning and CoD to deal the damage.

You can also use one of your team slots for a TM team composed of whoever you’re farming for their TMs. Use them for grinding missions at low levels, Finishing quests, running Cactuar dunes. Basically any time you don’t care who’s in your party, run the TM team.

I also keep one slot for the event. In this case the event gets a bonus from those characters so they get slotted into it.

The last team I have is just a sole unit that is currently set as my companion. This just makes it easy for me to change companions for friends to use, and also prevents me from accidentially throwing a unit in this slot that nobody would ever use.

I heard character X in Japan is amazingly awesome and game breaking!

The big Japanese Site Altema has these units currently listed as the top of the following categories, so for anyone who doesn't want to translate the list themselves here is the top rankings for the 5 roles. Plan and whale accordingly. Note that these ratings take trust rewards into account, and also Enchanements which as of March 2017 are not available in Global.

The Japanese release date is listed next to the name, This list was posted on November 2nd, 2016 which puts us where Japan was on April 7th of 2016. Certain units like Swimsuit Fina we might not get as they were a special summer time event, similar to our Halloween event. However there are some units that are not available in Japan and have been global exclusive that are not on this list. Gumi could also nerf these units on their global release. If the unit has no date next to it, it means it's currently in the Global gacha.

Wow, Trust Rewards seem awesome how do I get them?

There are 3 ways to gain trust.

1) Enhance the unit you want to increase the TM of, with a copy of the same unit (i.e. enhance one Zidane with a second Zidane). This adds the second unit’s TM to the first and adds an additional 5% on top of that. So combining a unit that has 20% with a unit that has 10% will result in the first unit being at 35%.

So if you have 5 Lunas that you want to combine to get a single Luna at 100%, you only need to grind them to 16%(one could be 17% another 15%, that’s fine). So it’s very efficient to TM farm multiple copies of the same unit at once. The downside of this is that you are “wasting” potential copies of the TM reward by mashing 5 into 1, and that you won’t be farming anything else during that period. This is only important with super amazing TMs like Zidane though.

2) Enhance the unit with a Trust Moogle. Moogles increase the trust of whatever their combined with by varying amounts, usually 10%.

3) Complete stages with the unit in your party. Each time you complete a stage there’s a 10% chance that each unit that completes the stage will gain increase their TM by .1% The most efficient way to do this is by running the very first area in the game, over and over and over and over again. As the stage costs 1 NRG to run, it will take approximately 10,000 NRG to max out a unit with no other help. This is why people use Macros.

code:
10,000 NRG / 12 NRG per hour = 834 hours.
834 hours / 8 hours a night = 105 Nights.
=
3.5 Months @ 8 Hours a night to grind 0-100% of a TM
Some whales will use Lapis to refresh their NRG, however most people are not at a rank where they have 100(the limit on NRG), and even then, it’s still not very efficient as 100 Lapis for 100 NRG gets you ~1% on your TM.

What is Trust Macroing

Trust Macroing is using an emulator to run through a series of clicks or button presses enabling you to play the game without needing to actually play the game. Some of the more advanced macros will enable you to run through explorations or click through other menus to automate crafting or using of skills. Most people just use the macroing for TM grinding because it is the worst part of the game but has incredible rewards for doing so. Most people will use the TM macro grind the Earth Shrine while they are asleep, resulting in a few % a night.

To setup the macro you’ll need to download an emulator, install the apk, and login via your FB account. On the emulator control panel there is a button that opens script/operation record. Make a new script of 1 button press, then in your OS find the folder where the script is saved, open it in a text editor and paste the new script into the file. Save, go back to the emulator and follow the directions for letting the script play.

This is your ultimate resource for Macros.

Memu 2.8.6 seems to be a more stable release than 2.9.1

Just use the official release archive here: http://www.memuplay.com/blog/index.php/2016/05/20/release-archive/

Good resource also is the official XDA thread from the developer: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/memu-powerful-android-emulator-to-play-t3157906

My units are too low level, how can I power level them quickly?

When you complete a stage units can get EXP. That EXP is divided among them, so in a party of 5 that gets 10,000 exp, each unit will walk away with 2000 exp for themselves. There are three ways of grinding EXP for your units.

1) Chamber of EXP - Advanced WORTH ~30k EXP for 15 NRG

Grab a high level friend unit and let them carry you through to the end. Your units do not need to be alive to get the exp so who cares if they die. This run is quick, easy and can be done with units of any level provided you have a good friend to carry you through it.

2) Mystic Woods - Exploration WORTH ~65k EXP for 10 NRG

While offering a better ratio of NRG to EXP, the downside is that this exploration is on the third section of the story, meaning it will take new players a long time to get there, but the worse problem is that it's quite difficult so even with a strong friend unit there is a chance of failure. Last, in order to kill all the enemies in the zones to ensure maximum exp, you could be running in circles there for 10 minutes. Highly rewarding but difficult.

3) Cactuar Dunes - Advanced WORTH ~30-90k EXP for 15 NRG

Cactuar Dunes Advanced itself is not worth any exp of not, however each run rewards you with a unit that can be used to enhance other units, rewarding the enhanced unit a large amount of EXP. Cactuar Dunes - Adv. will always end with a Giant Metal Cactuar that will reward 30k exp to a single unit, however more GMCs can spawn before the third battle resulting in a maximum possible haul of 90k exp via 3 GMCs. The Dunes themselves are pretty easy, and just about any decent friend unit can beat them, but as they don't reward much exp I recommend taking your TM party here. Also note that enhancing units costs GIL and if you aren't careful you can run out of money very fast.

side note: Japan has added a 4th tier of Cactuar Dunes that costs 30 NRG but has "Royal Metal Cactuars" which are worth 100k exp, and up to three can spawn. This feature was added in Japan on September 9th, putting it at roughly 5-6 months away from seeing a global release.

Ok, so I got my character to max level and it tells me I need some awakening materials?

In order to move from max level of one ★ to level one of the next ★, you need to AWAKEN your unit. The materials needed depend on the unit. Lower level materials can be found quite readily, 5★ and 6★ materials are more difficult, as are Sacred and Holy Crystals. So far these mats have been available for purchase in varying quantities during events at King Mog's shop in the far plane, however there was a week where farming them off super challenging enemies was an option. For 5★ mats and Sacred/Holy crystals you can also run the Chamber of Awakening. INT used to be the best place to get Sacred/Holy but now it sounds like PRO is where you want to go. It's a whopping 20 NRG a run but will give you 5★ mats and 0-5 sacred/holy crystals as well.

Awakening units is a giant pain in the rear end when you can't just buy the mats off King Mog so it's advised to plan your awakenings accordingly, and buy as many of the cheaply priced sacred/holy/5★/6★ mats as you can during event periods.

Maybe add a section about what's available in the cash store, what gives you the most bang for your buck, and how to whale :shepspends: properly.

For example, sometimes the bundle chests are worth getting, other times buying Lapis directly is the better choice. Buying keys is never worth it, you get plenty from events and not every chest is critical to open.

Yeah, the big problem is that bundles are erratic and fickle; sometimes you get something that's a really good buy like the bundle we had for Halloween, other times you're stuck with the not-really-worth-it 60 energy bundle or, worse yet, one of those absurdly overpriced Golden Equipment bundles.

A good rule of thumb is to treat anything in a bundle that isn't lapis or summon tickets (which can essentially be treated as lapis at a 1 ticket:500 lapis ratio) as fluff meant to make the bundle look more attractive without actually adding any value. Convert tickets to lapis, see if the bundle gives you more for your money than buying the lapis straight would.

As you stated, buying keys isn't worth it any more (though it was more feasible back at the beginning of the game before collection events, if you were one of those :spergin: folk who couldn't stand unopened chests). Magicite/Cactuars/Equipment can either be farmed or crafted. Event currency might be a good addition, but needs to be weighed against how much you could reasonably get per stamina refresh - something like 20000 Karma in a hypothetical BF bundle would be worth an absurd amount more, lapis-wise, than 20000 candy corn was in the Halloween bundle since you're assuming 75-100 runs vs about 20-30 runs. Equippable skills should only be taken into consideration if they aren't craftable, and even then we haven't had any skills in a bundle since the first month of the game.

My units are too low level, how can I power level them quickly?

When you complete a stage units can get EXP. That EXP is divided among them, so in a party of 5 that gets 10,000 exp, each unit will walk away with 2000 exp for themselves. There are three ways of grinding EXP for your units.

You could add my resource too if you wanted like this.

:frogsiren: Also Memu 2.9.1.1 was released 2 days ago. Maybe it improves stability problems some people here are having? :frogsiren:

Plum Island Animal Disease Research Center. Sounds charming.
In the colosseum section you say you only get 3 orbs. It's 5 now. Also there is an arena.

Everynight I wake up Screaming.
(and beating the dragon)
So what exactly causes the Memu crashes

It just randomly closed on me in an Arena match for no reason again, right when I was about to win

It's actually some kind of leak in the actual FFBE client that fucks up Memu faster than an actual Android device/iThing.

Restarting the client before Arena pretty reliably keeps it from crashing there.

I finally got my CoD (yes. I spent tickets for her, shut up), so hopefully I can solo-Maranda grind her to max before Maxwell leaves.

I wish BE had that visit feature some gacha games have, so that I could purge pubbies more effectively. I can never tell which idiots have good units but don't know about the fixed leader feature and which ones just have bad units and deserve to be deleted.

Always use the favorites feature when you land a whale. Especially a goon whale.

Reposting from last thread because I think it got swallowed up - is there a reason to do Arena as a newbie? I thought the first 5 fights a day would give you lapis win or lose but I haven't been getting rewards the past couple of days.

I got my dumb maxwell and limit break kill first time I actually went against her. Took a whaley 608 atk Luneth friend (I kinda regret not taking Mylan's Elza or the other beefy goon CoD I have) but I did it.

Group was:
Agrias
WoL
Refia - Def Materia and Muscle Belt/Angel Ring
CoD
Cecil

There were only a couple butt puckering moments. I have no TMs aside from Kain but that's cause I literally pull him all the time. Refia and Cecil are the MVPs of this dumb fight.

edit: oh good to know, the 2x Trust Moogle thing is still happening. I was worried I'd be late for that party.

It's almost worth doing all of the colosseum first. There's some solid rewards and lapis in there to collect.

The rewards should show up in your inbox, where you have to collect them--if they're not there, put in a help ticket. There's also the weekly rewards depending on your ranking, which no one has received yet.
