Love this thread. I need to pay closer attention so I can get in on the action when it comes up.

Might as well ask here: I'm currently attempting a solo run and have gotten to the end of BG:EE with my HOrc Assassin. Currently in the palace with Sarevok and the doppelgangers. Up till now it's been a fairly easy walk in the park, but I have no idea how to proceed without save scumming. If I turn invisible and try and backstab the doppelgangers, they kill the last duke and it's game over. If I try and fight them head-on, I'm quickly killed.

Your best bet will probably be to buff with as many potions as you can, like a potion of defence, oil of speed, potion of power, the highest giant strength potion you've got (24 strength is ideal here, but 23 will do), and if you have it, draw upon holy might. Just attack normally, unless you have a big stack of invisibility potions, (ideally a dozen or more, although you might want to save a few for the final boss fight against Sarevok and co.) if thats the case then backstab away. You'll be hard to hit, and you'll attack twice per round for huge damage. Hopefully, that will be enough, you can't really do much else as a solo assassin for this fight.

What's the general strategy for the finale of this game? Been doing some research but there isn't much useful information out there.

As for general strategy for the finale, for me its buff as much as needed (On occasion, I'll use one of everything) and attempt to steamroll it. It's always better to be over-prepared.

Kösem has died to vampiric wraiths on the first level of Watcher's Keep.

I forgot to play like a coward and paid the price. I opened the door to the main room without preparing and these two shot out the door and managed to instantly trap my main against the Demigorgon statue. By the time I realized I couldn't just run away I was down to 20%, so I had Haer'Dalis use the resurrection rod and Kösem cast Sanctuary, but she died before the rod even fired.

The golem left a tiny gap as it ran to attack and the wraiths both slipped through ignoring my summons and npcs and went straight for my main, killing her almost instantly again. After clearing out the upper levels of Durlag's Tower, Yolanda the Wizard Slayer kills the concept of love and also picks up the last remaining stat tome.

The dwarven doom guards don't give much trouble.

Thanks to a couple uses of the Greenstone Amulet, neither does the Demon Knight, and in fact, he goes out like a punk.

Aec'Letec is a bit harder. Because Safana's trapsetting skill was a whopping 5 and Baeloth didn't have Skull Trap in his arsenal, I had to settle for just laying some Glyphs of Warding for pre-trapping the summoning circle, and I apparently laid few enough that most of the acolytes didn't die, merely took them near to death, so we had to pop up and down the stairs a few times to pick them off one by one. Aec'Letec himself actually followed us one of those times, which I have never seen happen before. I didn't even know there was enough space for him. But he dies regardless.

Angelo sets us free because Shar-Teel is in the party, and on the way to get Sarevok's journal, we run into Diyab, who apparently went down the other stairs when we were dividing and conquering.

A couple of Horrors and a Confusion means :siren: Liia Jannath survives. :siren:

But we almost don't. This group proves harder than usual. We still manage to take out Tamoko without healing first though.

We accidentally trip over a Doom Guard trap before the battle even starts. But it doesn't matter, because we manage to kill all of Sarevok's lackeys before taking out the man himself. Yolanda the Wizard Slayer has finished Baldur's Gate.

HULK SMASH GNOLL FORTRESS

Went through the basic beginning stuff without much of a hitch. Managed to overwhelm Tarnesh with arrows and spells before he could get anything serious off, smashed the belt-collecting ogre, made my way to Beregost, etc.

Hulk doesn't even get a chance to smash Tarnesh

Gets some quality smashing in on Karlat, though

Neera drags Hulk into her personal drama, with predictable results

I'm not too heavily modded this time around, though I've got Unfinished Business in, and a few SCS components. (Most notably the one that relocates some of the NPCs so you don't first encounter them 5/6th of the way through the game, which is why Tiax and Eldoth were hanging out when I fought Karlat.

Anyhoo, making my way down to Nashkel, we attempted some diplomacy with some Flaming Fists...

...with predictable results...

...dealt with the confusingly-named-for-the-EE-era Neira...

...and picked up Minsc. And also picked up (in the wilderness) the +1 Halberd because HULK was already two broken weapons in.

Everything went off without a hitch til we actually made it to the fortress.

Pictured: A Gnoll Elite wanders past my fighters to murder Imoen. (I'm not going for Iron Party or anything, so back from the Land of the Dead she is ripped by completely routine world-shattering magics purchased for a pittance.) Neera almost bought it too, but we shoved potions down her throat.
Not Pictured: HULK standing on top of a pile of a million billion gnolls and xvarts.
Also Not Pictured (because I forgot to grab a screenshot): Hulk rescuing Dynaheir and sending her and Minsc off into the sunset together, 'cos there's really only room for one intellectual in this party.

But maybe this book HULK found will help with future negotiations. It was delicious.

If it's the option where HP is random but always in the top half (sometimes call NWN style), that used to be bugged as hell for barbarians and I don't know if they ever fixed it. You can look forward to triple digit HP while in single digit levels.

If you wann test it, make a save then cheat yourself enough XP for another Barbarian level then see what your HP gain is.

Alright, let's get started, and finished, with SoD.

Usual business.

Doot doot.

And we're off on the road again. I try paralyzing Minsc and Dynaheir to see if that'll let me travel with both them and Edwin, but they complain as soon as it wears off. Oh well.

So, I just head and pick up Baeloth and M'Khiin instead, the latter of whom makes a not-entirely-terrible front-liner with the ogre strength gauntlets.

Near the end of clearing out the undead dungeon, Yolanda hits level 9 and gets her fifth pip in darts, and you know what that means:

:getin: Bonus to dualing to Thief is that because they level so fast, Yolanda'll definitely hit level 10 as one before SoD is done.

We sit at the fire plane portal killing whatever comes through until I get bored, which turns out to be a whopping three cycles.

Then we spend about 3 days popping in and out of Moren's lair until we manage to successfully hit her with either Blind or Feeblemind (in this case the former), so we can pelt her with impunity.

A couple of minute-long AoE effects behind closed doors kills some of the illithid's thralls and weakens the others, leaving a fairly easy mop-up.

And it's off to go camping! :buddy:

Imagine a lot of basically this.

I'm a bit more prepared for this fight this time but it's still not the easiest.

And we decide to take out Hala while she's by herself so she doesn't rudely barge in on us during the battle. We... may have been slightly overbuffed.

However, her (re-)death takes Yolanda up to level 10 and reactivates her Wizard Slayer levels!

And... she's still alive? Or undead or whatever? And this time she barges in to thank me? Okay.

We buff right in front of the ogres for this fight, in a move that is definitely in no way suspicious. It goes easier than before (nobody died this time!), though it's still a slog when the second wave hits.

Before we head back down, Edwin pops a 10 foot invisibility scroll so we can sneak all the way out of the caves and past the front door guards.

We return to a camp in shambles, but again, loads of pre-buffing renders most of it pretty easy, though we still have to use a fair number of healing potions in the big fight.

And even more of them in this one, despite even greater pre-buffing.

And this time it is Dorn that kills Belhifet while the rest of the party just stands in the flame that completely can't hurt them and/or stares off into space.

And... this time a thief breaks the PC out and she has to sneak through the sewers? Is it a good/evil difference or what, because my reputation was at 14.

But at any rate, Yolanda the Wizard Slayer has ended the misbegotten crusade of Caelar Argent.

HULK HAS SMASHED MULAHEY AND SAVED NASHKEL

Instead of going to the mines straight away, Hulk & Co. decided to take in the sights at the circus. We de-stoned and recruited Branwen, who will surely be an asset to the party and not simply function as an occasionally-living pincushion.

Hulk's brief foray into hostage negotiation did not go well.

After dealing (poorly) with hostage situations and (poorly) with exploding ogre situations, Hulk decided to go on walkabout a bit to clear his head and maybe smash some gnolls and hobgoblins and whatever (and level Imoen's trap skills a bit before the mines).

Hulk is still taking that gnoll killing Imoen a tad personally.

I'm glad I remembered to have someone else talk to Shoal. Jaheira drew the short straw. It's probably just as well that Khalid wasn't around to see this.

We did for Bassilius while his "family" stood around and watched.

...well, you say that.

Branwen died to one of the named hobgoblins' arrows. And then died again later, and I think it was hobgoblin archers again. Hulk also came drat close to ending his adventure against that group of ogre berserkers and such but it all worked out in the end.

On a brighter note, chalk one up for the Winner Winner Chicken Dinner column, as Melicamp survived his fowl ordeal.

Finally, after a quick stop to take down Greywolf the Art Critic, we entered the Nashkel mines. Several dozen kobolds and a few traps later, we found Mulahey.

Who are these people and why are they in a random house in the Bridge District? Well, they're dead now.

Firkraag's lair was an appreciable jump in difficulty compared to Trademeet, but it wasn't too bad. The toughest encounter was that trio of greater wolfweres just past the king's tomb, they put up quite a good fight.

These wolfweres were much easier to deal with, but they did get Gaston the all important double level up at 3 Million exp. Spell Sequencer is such a boon for quick defensive buffing. Firkraag was left alive, I probably could kill him easily right now, but I'll wait until later.

HULK SMASH OWN REPUTATION

Just a small update but I wanted to get my stupid stupid mistakes clever strategies that were definitely on purpose down for posterity.

So, when last we left our heroes, they were leaving the Nashkel mines and exploring the area on their way back to claim their reward. Everything was going fine til one of the ghouls in one of those caves managed to one-shot Neera. Eh, bad luck but we roll with it.

The jelly fight turns out to actually not be a big deal; wizard went down to a Command spell and between HULK and Branwen, the jellies were more time-consuming than anything else. Of course, I used my one use of rage on that fight, but eh, I figure we'll leave and go get Neera raised.

Things do not go entirely to plan.

I honestly thought this was the end, as Kivan got nailed with Rigid Thinking and HULK (bereft of rage) and Branwen got held. (I need to start prepping Silence). Jaheira, despite being out of useful spells, and Imoen managed to keep the bounty hunting ladies occupied til the others snapped out of it but Imoen was chugging healing potions left and right.

Still, lesson learned, any fight you walk away from, etc. So I rested, then went back to Nashkel, remembering that Nimbul would be waiting for me. He's not usually that much trouble, as I recall, and he wasn't this time either, but I decided to open with Command rather than Remove Fear and, well...

I can't take you people anywhere.

Fortunately this was kind of the opposite of the last fight. HULK and Kivan stuck around and made short work of Nimbul. Then it was just a matter of waiting for the others to quit running around and screaming.

Back to exploring. Picked up the injured Flaming Fist dude when...okay, so this Flaming Fist guy walks up to us and starts demanding answers. HULK is rude, but not, I think, unreasonably so. He disagreed and attacked us. We were just defending ourselves. Not, I feel, worthy of a 7-point reputation hit, though I should have remembered that this would happen. Not really a big deal; everyone but Imoen and Kivan were some flavor of neutral at this point and Kivan was starting to get shirty about wanting to find the bandits sort of now-ish, and I can't be bothered to do that yet.

So since I'm in the vicinity of the Friendly Arms Inn anyway, I drop Kivan off and recruit Dorn, who I originally turned down during his cutscene fight. And oh yeah recruiting him tanks your rep too. And since I, you know, want to be able to buy things...

So that's how the Temple of Garl Glittergold was able to afford to redo their floor.

On a brighter note, Silke went down like a punk after I threw a trillion spells at once at her.

In Which Keebler Youngblood The Avenger Racks Up A Tremendous Body Count, Some Of Whom Are Enemies

Not a Born Hero, but not a lot of rolling and pretty respectable stats for a castery druid. Shame that this was the only bit of good luck I'd have in probably the worst start I've ever had in this game. Like, not Getting Shanked By Carbos bad, but only just.

Well this is not what I would call an auspicious start.

I wasn't planning on any long-term evil recruiting (and I'd already sent Xzar and Monty on their merry) but I'm already dragging one corpse around and I'm not sure I'm going to be able to make it to the Friendly Arm Temple before Tarnesh makes himself known, so I pick up Eldoth, figuring he can make himself useful for a bit. Fortunately I was in fact able to get Imoen raised. Well, fortunately for two of us.

He tripped, right?

Tarnesh got off his first mirror image and that meant I couldn't interrupt his Horror spell (though it wasn't for lack of trying). It's just luck of the draw that he didn't seek out Keebler for his magic missiles and that he and a panicked Imoen ended up flailing at each other ineffectually til she snapped out of it and stabbed him in the face. (Keebler had bravely relocated to another continent by this point.)

I gave Eldoth an honorable burial on the steps of the Inn, picked up Khalid and Jaheira, and then kipped north to grab Ajantis. FOR THE GLORY OF HEL-

Well this is just embarrassing.

I make my way down to Beregost with a side-trip to High Hedge to grab Kivan, and then wander into Neera's ambush. In which, astonishingly, no one in my party dies.

To make a long story short, I head straight to Nashkel, since I've installed Valerie and Isra after hearing them talked up here, and I've decided to try them out. Which means Neera gets sent away after I pick up Valerie (she gets super weird and clingy about it). I also swap in Minsc for Kivan, reckoning that I'll use his spot as a rotating slot for NPC quests, and then I head down to take on Greywolf and pick up Isra. Greywolf's a tough fight, but between Minsc and the spells I've got handy, I'm sure we can...

I knew I should have picked up Branwen and her Command spell first.

So. Yeah.

Death List:
Imoen: 1 (Wolf just beyond Candlekeep, raised once)
Eldoth: 1 (Tarnesh)
Ajantis: 1 (Belt Ogre)
Minsc: 1 (Greywolf, raised once)

And now we're gonna go try to rescue Dynaheir. I'm sure everything will be fine.

...on second thought (and like three more NPC deaths later), I think Keebler Youngblood is gonna retire to be a dirt farmer in Nashkel. (Mostly because I just remembered why I never stick with more caster-focused main characters; I enjoy melee characters so much more).

(I made Jaheira into a Totemic Druid, more or less on a whim, but goddamn the extra meat shield is coming in handy.)

Are we 100% sure that Ghost Bear isn't the real Bhaalspawn here?

Think of it more as grave redistribution.

Amazon fight nets us our first casualty. I'm thinking of replacing him with Ghost Bear.

SWORD OF SMATTAS. CAN YOU NOT HEAR A WORLD CRY OUT FOR JUSTICE? WHEN WILL YOU DELIVER IT?
Yam Slacker
Rogal the Shaman has sprung Imoen and murdered the Underdark!

Here's a fun little trick when you arrive at Brynnlaw. You show up in the middle of the night. If you try to sleep, you are told there are monsters about. So, move everyone to the stern of the boat and sleep anyway.

Noon. Much better time to enjoy an island vacation, even if it drives certain people batty.

So, we slaughter everyone at Galena's, chat to Desharik, kill the guy with the wardstone, head on in. We give Yoshimo a little parting gift once we're clear of anything that will give experience..

Good thing we got that int tome in BG1.

Railroad chugs along to its conclusion. On a whim, I give some speed boots to Hexxat and try to steal from Saemon as he 'ports out: We get the Silver Sword early. and then... huh. He gives us another one.

Every last sahuagin in the City of Caverns dies. On the way, we come across an oddity pickpocketing the king before we kill him.

We purge the outlying settlements and take trophies before dealing with dragons and drow.

We 'help' an imprisoned mage.

We double cross everyone in Ust Natha to get the eggs, kill everyone that dares show their face, then hand the eggs back to Adalon. We then double cross her by priming the way out with explosives and aggroing her with a deliberately incompetent pickpocket. Cue one dead dragon.

Next up, let's actually do some sidequests!

Rogal the Shaman has Sidequested everything!

Nice to be remembered.

Let's get an order of Paladins to do the dirty work of a blackguard, a vampire, a Thayvian and the Scourge of the Sword Coast.

Anyway. Bodhi dealt with. Time to start cleaning the map. Let's start on red.

Then black. not a single point of damage taken before it gets snicker-snacked.

A second trip to the lower planes. No sign of the erstwhile Shining Lady this time, though hardly surprising given this is the Abyss rather than the Hells.

Trademeet sorted, complete with traditional group shot. Sadly the slayer form didn't stick.

Cromwell has been busy.

That's all the side stuff done. The miscreants hit 3M experience, so let's go do Watcher's Keep before beating up Irenicus.

Rogal the Shaman has conquered Watcher's Keep and sent Demogorgon back to the abyss!

Ritual level, check. Elemental level, check. Got lucky with a Nature's Beauty and blinded the Chromatic Demon.

Maze level, check. MoLtM level, Korgan's turn to kill a demilich and a dragon.

Rogal has her way with the machine and ends up with all her stats beginning with '2'.

Final seal level. Obligatory pile of bodies.

Rogal finally gets a dragon kill.

Hexxat spikes the Prince of Demons into the endzone.

Next stop Suldanessellar.
