KD missed the mark by not going for transgressive fiction. "John was worried about his student loans and, of course, the doorway to the death dick dimension in his grandmother's old wardrobe."

Even if the game is gross at least you didn't close down the thread like a big baby when people started making fun of it. That same level of courage was not displayed by the Age of Sigmar OP who closed the thread when someone actually played the game and broke down why it was awful.

To their credit they are trying to branch into a broader spectrum of pervert.

I've been watching Woolie's playthrough of K:D on YouTube (they're only one full hunt in so far, but it's certainly entertaining to watch), and that got me to start browsing through the game on Tabletop Online. Now, I know thread opinions on the game, and pretty much agree with the consensus, but setting aside the (glaring) problems with the setting, propensity for random gently caress-you dice rolls, and the need to farm encounters repeatedly, there's definitely some cool stuff that it has going on under the hood. I hope someone picks up its monster and AI design and builds a different shell around it.

I think some of those are going to be seen in the Dark Souls game, though I haven't been following up on that, and some of those concepts may/may not show up in Level99's Seventh Cross might scratch some of the same itches. Someone could easily mod the base game to enable more meaningful decisions, but given the fact that the game costs a billion dollars and has the subject matter that it does I doubt someone will. Coming up with a game with the same AI/hit location/survival feel without all the muck in both design and gameplay (and not having it cost a billion dollars) would be a home run. Gloomhaven seems to have a lot of the same feel, though obviously much different gameplay design. Looks like people are really liking that one so far.

The biggest problem is that without a bunch of bullshit RNG, some sort of system to encourage people to repeat decks in one game, or both, making a separate and distinct deck for each and every monster is going to get expensive. The monster fighting part of Kingdom Death is WOW Raid The Board Game - and that's even been done with the WOW license before. It's cheaper to make and easier to play as a video game.

After further examination, I finally noticed that there's all of seven unique monsters in the base game, one of which is the final boss. Eurgh. But you're right, I can't really think of how you could have more variety without shooting the price through the roof with a billion components.

Again, Gloomhaven has more cards for a fraction of the price. Millennium Blades has over 700 unique cards (with duplicates taking that into the 1000s) for a fraction of the price (no minis). I'm not sure why Kingdom Death is so expensive other than artificial scarcity and bad planning.

I have to admit, after getting a look at the rulebook, I love all the interior art that's done after the style of Amano and Terada's work for Nintendo Power back in the day. It also reminds me of the best work from Pathfinder's item card sets.

LordAba posted:Again, Gloomhaven has more cards for a fraction of the price. 13 Plastic injection miniatures, compared with high quality multi part plastic miniatures, 7 big monsters, 34 human (28 multi part). Yeah, making half the pin-up ones with wider waists/bigger ribcages would go a long way to making them HWP. Some people want cheesecake body pillows, some want dumb minis tho. Making them actually full of bugs and other things would be pretty baller.quote:Jojo or Tom of Finland miniatures doing impressive poses with their dicks 'n balls hanging out everywhere.
