Very few recall doing long kiilstreaks in ME3 PVP, But nearly everyone remember having to kill Wrex , hearing Sovereign voice the first time, picking up who dies between space racist and space puppy or saving everyone but a single crewmember on the suicide mission.

So here's a picture of all of the funding to date that I compiled from that community tracking spreadsheet. Warning: Huge.

Red is daily funding (right vertical labels), grey is total funding (left vertical labels), horizontal is date.

I find this very interesting- the rate of funding seems to be on the rise, despite no apparent effort to bring in new backers. Moreover, the three recent big sales were the biggest since 2013, easily exceeding the sales last year after the release of the PU. Five years into fundraising with no substantial release, this is extremely unusual.

One interesting trend is in the daily funding, if you exclude the spikes- there's a definite decline from 2013 through the end of 2015 on day-to-day income, but then in January 16 it hits levels never seen before. Who's spending all this money?

Its the planets. People already see themselve as fearless explorers claiming a homestead, a desire most backers had in real life but where denied by (fate/the economy/republicans/democrats/muslims). What DLC sold more for Skyrim ? Heartfire, the one where you can build a house. Sci-fi fan where burned by NMS but instead of learning most of them decided "This will be No Man Skys done right !" and they keep chasing the dragon tail. People look at the Demo at Gamescon and judge then like they judge big AAA demo at E3 - Ie. We show you something now to be released november/early next year.

The interesting part is that if you divide the 130M$ by half a million backers (the number turbulent released), its only about 65$ a year over 4 years. About a single AAA title, something many would call a resonable spending for a hoby.

And who know ? Maybe SQ42 will be a loving masterpiece revitalizing the genre. Maybe lightning will strike twice. The Pyramyds and the Great Wall show that if you throw enough money and human suffering at a problem great things are possible. Its wastefull and barbaric for the slave doing the works, but your legacy still stand the test of time. Who know what will emerge from this dumpster fire at the end ?

We are, strangely, begining to climb the ''expectations'' skyway. A) Release SQ42.
B) Allow ships to be purcheasable in the PU with PU money.
C) Do something illegal and be investigated.
D) Publish another demo reel of upcoming features to prime the hype pump for another year (it worked 4 time already, why stop ?).

The original DOOM had a cheat code that allowed you to move around without colision detection (i.e trough the walls). That code was ''idnoclip''. In the context of SC its the feeling of ''weightlesness'' you get from the ship flight model.

You would expect, since you are simulating the effect of a thruster pushing off a mass in space, to start slow and have the velocity ramp up untill you begin thrusting in the opposite direction, making it slow down gradually untill you stop. The worse the Thrust/Mass ration would be, the longer the whole process would take.

SC ships dont do that. They accelerate and stop on a dime in any direction with nearly no inertia. Whatever marketing spiel they shill to the backer about ''Simulating each thrusters correctly'' is blatantly false.

From the wiki :
Disadvantages:
Control rods are inserted from below for current BWR designs. There are two available hydraulic power sources that can drive the control rods into the core for a BWR under emergency conditions. There is a dedicated high pressure hydraulic accumulator and also the pressure inside of the reactor pressure vessel available to each control rod. Either the dedicated accumulator (one per rod) or reactor pressure is capable of fully inserting each rod. Most other reactor types use top entry control rods that are held up in the withdrawn position by electromagnets, causing them to fall into the reactor by gravity if power is lost.

('is fat' jokes have been sparse in this incarnation of the thread)

The biggest challenge they will face is transitioning from the current funding model of massive macro transaction fueled by Hype/marketing trikery (sizzle reel, artificial scarcity, new cash rebate) to an "ongoing" operation. From what we gather this game has serious infrastructure needs, if only in patching bandwith and while the current whale are perfectly fine with spending a few bricks to fuel the dream, once they have something they can immerse themselve in game they will gradually stop spending. If you love cargo running, once you have a Hull E with your child slave friend and family running escorts in top of the line fighters, what else do you need ? You cant play more than a single ship at once anyway.

Where will the money needed to cover maintenance and further dev will come ? How will they retrain the whales from spending a lot on concept to spend a little every month ?

They dont have levels or tiers so they cant have premium account get %more rewards.
Gun renting schemes never sold good on PC platforms. Allowing backers to own while new player to only rent would please backers but keep out a lot of new money.
They dont have enchants or tech upgrades, so no selling enchants or protection items.
Selling fuel and ammo might work, but nothing crash immersion like having to pay your fuel like you do with your car.
They promised no subs
They promised no p2W - all sould be skill based.

Unless they go back on the pledge (not that its above them) i really wonder how they will pull it off.

I spent a lot of time arguing with backers over this, and in the end the only way I could think of making it work was a secondary cosmetic only currency. It would be exchangeable in game so that lazy players could buy credits with cash, and since it's only for cosmetic items Pay2Win isn't an issue. Plus it's a good way to counter inflation.

For that to work you would need a serious churn rate of new players buying one-two cosmetics before moving on while a few social butterfly have to try them all. The usuall fremium MMO is bult on the idea of making you spend 10$ before you gently caress off to other games but the game is built on that model form ground zero.

SC is the absolute opposite of ''just download it to try it out' this week end'. The control scheme alone could turn a good % of newcomers off and they have no tutorials yet. A cosmetic market would probably reach saturation quickly and they already gave about 1500M UEC to backers in pre-reg, not counting the pyramid scheme rewards they put in place to entice word of mouth.

Add the fidelity madness of the crobblers taking a day to describe a jacket and i dont think cosmetics alone can keep them in the black, especially if the backers are as obessive playing the game as they are defending it. 200k person playing 6-10 hours a day (many are unemployed-disabled) without p2p matchmaking eat a lot of upload.

Indeed.
