Why? They've repeatedly done live events with builds they were downloading while people were waiting outside. They even did a mini-documentary on how incompetent they were for CitCon this year.

The only thing that would surprise me at this point is if CIG did something right.

I don't feel bad for the devs anymore, that guy joined CIG in August 2015, it was obviously CIG were taking advantage of the mentally ill at that point and rumours of how bad employees were treated were circulating among dev studios.

Anyone joining from that point onwards deserves what they get and anyone still there from earlier should really have left by now.

Same here. The folks who were there early on at least have an excuse, but now that production has descended into a monstrous joke that only exists to milk backers I have no sympathy for them. There are plenty of other game companies out there that make actual games and don't waste millions of other people's money because they can. Whenever this clusterfuck collapses, either because CIG finally does release a steaming pile of poo poo or because CR finally outspends the money faucet and goes bankrupt, every one of them will be tainted by their affiliation with CIG. They'll spend the rest of their careers hearing "oh you worked on Star Citizen" along with a barely suppressed laugh (assuming they can even get a job working on games). The worst thing will be the new hires, the ones right out of college who don't know any better and assume that CIG's constant deluge of incompetence and waste is normal for game development.

At this part every one of them is a willful participant in a blatant scam. The sad part is that most of them probably don't realize that CIG is just as likely to gently caress them as their customers. Just look at what happened to 38 Studios.

This was all at the very outset of everything. Sandi wasn't married to Chris, the ideas were still original. This whole Sq42 thing came around at some point, and everybody was like "Oh! Like Hitchhikers Guide! Haha!" And instead of go with it, Sandi determined that it wasn't in fact a HHGTTG reference, but instead it was her favorite number. So it's all original and totally not cribbing on Douglas Adams.

As for the towel, no idea? I'm sure towels are her favorite bathroom item or something.

Somebody like Beer can probably correct me if I'm way off base. This is some early days stuff when I wasn't really caring too much because the game was still feasible and not a train wreck.

Yeah that's pretty much it. Sandi made it about herself while Chris was making a "homage" to a better IP.

I agree that if you are working at CIG you are working for an immoral company built on suckering people, and should take some time to reflect on that. But whatever, :capitalism: . People gotta eat. The best thing to do would be to be a whistleblower if you see or know things that are capital w Wrong above and beyond just a broken project, like false representations of the funding tracker or things being done to intentionally deceive the community.

OTOH leaking poo poo to the press really is a thing that will end your career in the industry if you're caught so that's a thing.

Yes but it'll be a suppressed laugh and they'll say "tell me stories of how crazy that poo poo was. did someone really quit by setting all the public tvs to a looping video of sandi's tickle porn?"

Yeah. Anyone at CIG should have a plan for what happens if they suddenly stop getting paychecks and the whole thing implodes, including the possibility that there's actually illegal poo poo happening.

But again, anyone in game development needs a plan for getting fired at any moment because that's a thing that happens. It's a very unstable industry for workers. :(

Fair enough. It makes sense that the random guy working on the pube distribution of the left testicle of the Vanduul boss in Squadron 42 wouldn't see his work impacted by the whole company going tits up.

lovely crowdfunded closed development obvious hacks Warhorse Studios continue to show "progress" on their "game" that is currently in an "alpha state" where all of the intended games features are "implemented". Notable pieces of information include a dramatic three and a half hours of motion capture for a single player narrative game (it took them a whole month), numerous examples of where ambitious features had to be cut for the interest of gameplay, and artists being tasked with the alien concept of "optimization".

Clearly a scam.

It's the result of the 3/11/2011 earthquake in Japan also striking Hitachino's brewery. They had a new mash just before the quake struck. The damage led to a 3-day power outage, and the casks of mash were all tilted at an angle, so the mash entered spontaneous fermentation. I think the original intention was a witbier, but what they wound up with has the look and feel of a sour Flemish red ale. The brewery was able to make 8,000 bottles of this disaster beer -- it's pretty interesting if you like the sour style. Spicy, sweet n sour, with some red fruit tang. It's pretty cool that the brewery was able to claw something worthwhile out of their misfortune.

That sounds amazing, but it also sounds impossible to get.

They have also been keeping a lot of money. Standard procedure for awhile would be

Backer 1 buys $250 ship and gifts it to Backer 2
Backer 2 buys a $150 ship
Backer 2 asks for refund, CIG deletes his account and gives him back the $150 he paid, the $250 that was gifted disappears into the ether
When asked CIG refuses to refund the $250 as it wasn't purchased by Backer 2

It wasn't until a bunch of people started posting here and getting refunds that people found out they were entitled to the store credit they had been given as gifts and CIG repeatedly caved on the gift thing when pressed, but who knows how much money has just been kept by CIG by people who refused to press through a half dozen emails where you have to teach their customer service reps that currency value held by a person is that person's property regardless of it's origin.

It's pretty funny in an illegal way. Kind of like how they refuse to allow gift cards to be spent on sales because they technically aren't "new money." This is totally a bad idea but they can't separate the "Melt Ships = Credit" mechanic from "Pay Money in Advance= Credit" mechanic, so they have to invalidate the use of all forms of prior credit, including the completely valid gift cards which are legally eligible for sales.

explaining any of this to backers or CIG customer service is a waste of time though. I figured some whale would have sued over not being to use his $3000 in giftcards for a Javelin or something. If any other company said "No, You know what guys? Those Giftcards you bought? They don't apply to sales. Sorry." I'm sure something would be done about it, but most companies sell actual products and not dreams.

I had this happen to me firsthand, and is a perfect example of how much of this production is an absolute scam. Anything that leads to them keeping money in spite of their inability to deliver a product is ridiculous.
