OneEightHundred posted:Yeah except there's a slew of expertise about practically any product available online, including user reviews, so people are increasingly walking into stores knowing exactly what they want and they don't give a poo poo about anything but price at that point, so the value of having knowledgeable sales staff has tanked. The hollowing of service labor and the emphasis on consumer-accessible product evaluation (which pre-dates the internet; Consumer Reports had a huge impact) happened simultaneously and fed off of each other.
