So I was looking at the NH Young Democrats calendar for events and meetings and it's just blank. Gave the contact number a call and got answered right away. Turns out there will be a meeting next week to schedule meetings/events for next few months. Also got the email of the head of the NHYD. Suggestions on what to ask her?

Syndlig posted:If you've got any interest in it, I'd ask if there's anything that you can help out with regarding logistics/organizing or web administration. Otherwise, probably just introduce yourself and try to keep up on when meetings are so you can show up and make a good impression. I have no web site skills. I'd like to push FULL COMMUNISM NOW while everyone's still reeling.

GlyphGryph posted:These should be the contacts for the DNC officials. If it's not the person on the list, ask to speak with them and if you can't, pass a message. Then ask them if they are supporting Ellison, and if they aren't already ask them to do it. "Hello [BLANK]. My name is OhFunny and I'm calling today to ask you support Kieth Ellison as DNC Chairman. I feel very strongly that Representative Ellison is the best choice to lead the DNC going forward, due his experience in organizing and winning grassroots campaigns in Minnesota; and that his strong support for American workers exactly the message the Democratic Party needs to adapt going forward to appeal to those voters who feel frustrated; and left behind as income inequality rises across this country." Read it aloud until you can say comfortably and naturally. Tweak as you wish.

It's great to read this stuff about people taking over their local parties. I feel kinda demoralized though. Whoever Dems run in my town get blown outta the water. They haven't even been to field a full slate since 2008. I'm unsure what to do.

OAquinas posted:The key to turning over a local area is finding relevant, local issues and pressing them. (garbage dump? local lake polluted? no play areas for kids? walmart blighted commercial district?) Once people start buying into the platform, then more get involved and you get more candidates for local/state offices. On that last point I enrolled as a dues paying member of the DSA today. Hunted down the NH DSA Facebook page and saw an update that their recognition was stalled due to not enough people who signed up actually paying dues. Got in touch with them. Might have just saved the day.

I saw in the news Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter was skipping the inauguration, so I contacted my own congresswoman and the senators asking them to do the same.
