You can't carpet bomb without the support of the country because it takes 300+ million people to keep our war machine running and actual non-support (as opposed to complaints and compliance) renders most of the high tech stuff completely unsustainable and broken/abandoned in a really short period of time. Civil War, as everyone talks about in this thread, is impossible for the same reason. The cities start starving and society breaks down long before were having tank battles in Cleveland or bombing runs in Houston.
