Also you didn't mention what I think is the best feature of the explosive decoy, it allows you to steal from shops. That means the shopkeepers other than the main one get you an item for the low low price of one curse.

Things like this are why I still don't have the shelleton key unlocked. I'm bad at stealing.

I'm really liking the concept of the Fellowship of Ser Junkan. Get every companion plus a level one Junkan, then go on an epic quest to level him up and defeat the Gungeon. Also, you aren't allowed to fire your gun! :v:

if you can't fire your gun, how are you supposed to get junk from chests?

Good point. Clearly I should only expend the wrath of my firearms upon inanimate objects. Like walls. Or chests.

I feel like there's still some room for challenges that could be performed without modding. Maybe a less restrictive version of the "Gunnel Vision" challenge that was suggested earlier?

  • Once you start using a gun that has limited ammo, you must continue to use that gun until it is completely depleted.
  • You may switch away from guns with unlimited ammo at any time.
  • You may switch guns to perform ammo refills. (For further freedom, you can also switch your active gun when an ammo box drops or is purchased.)

It seemed like the main concern about the challenge was that there are some guns that are somewhat situational (e.g. guns with elemental properties) that would make a run extremely painful. The original suggestion required switching weapons immediately upon receipt of a new weapon. Maybe the loosening of restrictions will make this more of a viable challenge to run?

Oh look it's a run! I didn't find the original but this works. It still causes issues! Some guns are pretty bad for various things! I may have to do some CREATIVE EPISODE NUMBERING to deal with the next episode because it's a little strange. I've got ideas though. On the bright side, I found one of the NPCs I'm missing and I believe that will be the next video. But for now!

So there's going to be a missing episode here for a while until I figure out how to commentate it well because live commentary just wasn't working out. Also I'm on vacation for the next two weeks.

But I still recorded and uploaded some videos in advance! One of the things I did in the second lost episode was finally find the Sorceress, one of the NPCs I've been missing. So this run is all about her mode.

A Youtube suggestion came up with this, give yourself six items and ALL THE CURSE. The only thing I might change in retrospect is Heroine, probably change it into a better boss weapon.

You still accepting challenge runs? I think I have an idea for one.

The Bad Item Redemption Run
Take three of the guns you have labeled as "Bad" and then use six passive items of your choice to make them passable.
You can not pick up or use any other guns and you can not use your starter weapon unless you run out of ammo for all three.
Passive items, and master rounds are picked up as normal.

We saw how odd synergies can make the worst guns into amazing room clearing weapons of mass electrocution with the Robot and the Supersoaker. Let's give some other bad guns a chance.

I looked around for guns that I think are lousy that I can turn into machines of destruction, and here's what I've got.

(whoops ha ha boy that sure was a lot of words about a dumb thing)

11 hours and 30-some-odd deaths, I'm contemplating modding the game a little. What would people think about boosting characters' starting load-outs w/ the things you can buy from Acquisitions:
The Pilot can always start with the Flash Ray
The Marine can start with the Hegemony Carbine
The Convict can start with the RPG
& the Hunter can start with Rocket-Propelled Bullets (maybe?);

...and what would you consider a reasonable criteria for unlocking these upgrades? (I.e., getting to a certain floor, beating a certain boss, killing that characters' past, etc.)

I'm not sure about criteria, but the guns you start out with should both be kinda bad and thematic. The Convict might start out with Casey since it's a baseball bat and she's a mob-type criminal. Don't let my gameplay fool you, Casey is a D-rank weapon and even though I think it's REALLY GOOD it's kinda...bad sometimes? The Marine could get the basic shotgun, since it's extremely DOOM thematic.

You could give the Pilot the Flash Ray, but Flash Ray Bad. You could give the Pilot cigarettes, since he's cool and cool people smoke. As for the Hunter, either the sling or the wolf.

When that one boss turned the room dark, could you have used the Flare gun to light it up?

I think the flares only light up a small space around the wall they connect with, it's pretty dark man.

Not sure if this is only me or not but the video seems to be stuttering pretty heavily after the 3 minute mark or so.

I see it but I'm not sure what caused it. Might be processing? Seems to clear up after a few minutes.

On an unrelated note, Skippy Granola and I guested in Fiendly's podcast about LPs and video games and stuff. Check it out!

On a final related note, the next episode of Gungeon will be the last. I'll be mixing in a few different run ideas that couldn't quite carry a run on their own, because they're all at least lightly entertaining. So stay tuned!

Thanks for the LP! I have a couple questions to round it out.

First, do you have any strong opinions on the Hyper Light Blaster? When I heard it existed I was eager to see it.

Second, what does the Super Hot Watch actually do, aside from reference the most innovative shooter I haven't played in years?

My strong opinion on the Hyper Light Blaster is it's real good. It's a 12(?) shot weapon with 12 ammo, every bullet you hit with gets refunded. So if you've got good aim it's essentially an infinite ammo high damage weapon. I've run into a few issues with it losing some of the bullets so your mileage may vary but it's always been real good when I've found it.

Super Hot Watch is exactly what it says on the tin. If you're not moving, everything else is either stopped or slowed down to the slowest of crawls. Even your reload time! As CirclMastr pointed out, it can make room clearing a bit of a pain but it makes boss fights more than a little bit easier.
