Arglebargle III posted:Those are Wallace's men so I assumed they are replicants. I'm pretty sure those are LAPD officers piloting the spinner limo at the end. They at least look similarly attired, with black longsleeves and white collars.

Mike N Eich posted:The Resistance has to be in the film because its a film about how no matter what, people who are oppressed and degraded and enslaved will rebel. But it's also meaningful that they're barely in it, that their encounter with K is almost incidental to both of their stories, despite K believing he himself is something special. It's probably an accident at all that their paths crossed, unless they meaningfully implanted Deckard's daughter's memories in him in some sort of convoluted scheme, but I don't think they did. The other thing about the why the pregnancy is so important to the resistance depends on if Deckard is a human or not. While a replicant Deckard means that replicants can breed with each other and it's just presumably a lost art, a replicant-human hybrid means that replicants can breed with humans until their DNA is indistiguishable, intermingling to the point the whole last ideological barrier is rendered moot.

Serf posted:When he was shot it took like three whole seconds for all of him to hit the floor. I also like Freysa's implication that Sapper let K kill him. It would make sense, after all. Sapper dies and the mystery never progresses, but they didn't count on K being a good detective. Guess they figured if Deckard was a detective that didn't do detective work, it would be the same with K.

There's a rundown on the CGI Sean Young... https://www.fxguide.com/featured/mp...n=SocialWarfare MPD did the work. Villeneuve used both a stand-in and Sean Young in the scene. A 256-light rig was used to get an accurate reference for the model, which apparently Deakins' lighting made super complicated.

Arglebargle III posted:The lighting on her still wasn't quite right. Yeah, the article mentions that it was probably close as they could get it. Arglebargle III posted:Untextured Rachael's head on the body double's body is spooky af Can't say this without posting the images. I don't know what the bottom pass is? Subsurface map? Only reason why it looks a bit skull-like, so it distinguishes bone from soft tissue, which would scatter and reflect light.

Neo Rasa posted:I have to question this though because on a wide scale (like a huge ad in a public place) it's incorrect. Like look at a massive advertising platform like YouTube which has a massive amount of nudity-free pornographic advertising on it. 2049 Earth doesn't look like it's the place to raise a kid. Any touchy-feely "won't someone think of the children" sentiment would be largely absent in favor of raising your kid on Mars or another off-world colony and away from a dying, corrupted Earth. It's likely a free-for-all now in 2049's Earth-bound media. Even the part with the orphanage made it clear that kids are a discarded commodity, not something to be treasured and protected.

I was reading this Guardian article about biohackers and the last one reminded me a whole lot of Niander Wallace and his blind but not blind situation.quote:

I finally watched Sicario today, having bought a DVD copy at the Black Friday sale at Walmart (and before anyone starts up, I wanted the Blu-Ray, but couldn't find it). It's hilarious how much of Sicario ended up in Blade Runner 2049. Just how Villeneuve shot some of those establishing shots. The introduction shot to Ciudad Juarez could practically have been BR2049.

Neo Rasa posted:The animated one kind of just made me wish they'd do a whole movie about the build up to the blackout or/and one about its immediate aftermath. I was actually disappointed in the anime, largely because it made some goddamn unsubtle throwbacks to the original. But I love the hookerbot kicking in the truck window and throwing that trucker out of the cab with her legs.
