Diogines posted:Is it really anything like AC? No idea, I never really got into Asheron's Call that much but I know it's designed by two fairly important figures in AC1/2's development.

weird Asian candy posted:Ah man that sucks. AC was my first MMO addiction, many a sick day was burned on firing up my 56k modem and cranking out some AC. The thing that really sucks is this is the easiest MMO for fans to acquire since there's no middleware, probably doesn't share much code with D&DO/LOTRO and doesn't put those games at risk security-wise and it's an IP no one cares about. Hell will freeze over before Warner Brothers decides to invest in another Asheron's Call game... And they won't get it.

This is something I really appreciate about the Project Gorgon community. Most things are left unspoken unless you really ask for them. Shame I generally missed out on Asheron's Call but unfortunately I was already invested in Everquest when it came out and it slipped under the radar until years later while I was interested in Star Wars Galaxies at the time. If Asheron's Call wasn't delayed, the whole genre might have been very different today.

Set the discord links to not expire. They're already gone.

I said come in! posted:The way Asheron's Call plays is really outdated and frustrating. The controls and camera are annoying. If this group is able to get their hands on the IP, will they be able to make major changes to the game to make it more modern? In theory? Yeah, but they won't because they're too invested in nostalgia rather than improving it.

I read that there were weird things going on with the website and they're now assuming WB will start up servers but not honor the lifetime offer anymore.
