Another year is almost upon us, so it's time for another resolution thread.

Same deal as last year: Make your resolutions for 2017, and post them in this thread. Mid-January I'll hide this thread in the vault, and in December I'll bring it back so we can see how we did. Will you complete your resolutions? Will your life take you in a different, cooler direction? Let's find out! :buddy:

See if I can do better than my ~50% from last year.

Gaming
1. Keep my weekly Traveller game going until the end of June. My wife and I are expecting our first child in July, so I want to wrap up my campaign loose ends before then.

2. Paint up 2 battalions of `Mechs for Battletech: Alpha Strike. And not just in camo, either. This also means I need to acquire another company of `Mechs on the cheap (lance packs have been great for this).

3. Play or Run some Fate, dammit! I have a lot of Fate material but I've never gotten off my rear end to get a game run (or to find a game to play). No more! This is the year.

Other
1. Oh, God; first baby is coming 2017 and I'm kinda freaking out. My goal is to keep it together.

2. Adding to that, :yotj:! Time to find some a new job. Gotta finish up my certs and get into a better situation for my family.

3. Read 75 books. Two years in a row I've been stuck right at 50. Let's break that habit (I should be counting baby board books, right?)

Enough sideburns to last a lifetime.
Might as well take a chance on this.

1. Finish the campaign book I've been on and off working on for This Is Not A Test, including some actual pictures and layout outside of the text document it currently is.

2. Finish up painting my backlog of primed miniatures and run some demo games of the stuff I've been tinkering with.

3. Sculpt and cast at least three new models. This does involve learning how to cast models, but I figure that my renewed interest in gaming should help keep me motivated.

As far as life goals, hoping to leave my current job and find something closer to what I actually like to do in life.

1. Keep tracking my purchases and painting
2. Paint more than I buy
3. Make more effort to track my diet and lose weight
4. Play some board games with goons via TGSS
5. Have a sort through my piles of unused stuff and sell/donate anything I'm unlikely to ever use

  • Paint my miniatures:
    - Infinity: Haqq, Morats, JSA (everything I own for them that doesn't need special conversions), most-used models for vanilla CA and Yu Jing.
    - Malifaux: Colette, Marcus, Raspy, and all of their crews and addons (no I'm not buying every single out-of-faction beast for Marcus).
    - Dungeon Saga
    - Earth Reborn
    - Saga (6pt of Vikings)
    - Descent (1 and 2, including custom bases and familiar/runestones/mimic/etc. minis)

  • Finish/paint my Infinity/Malifaux terrain (one table's worth of each)

  • Finish my copy of P&P Magic Realm and actually play the drat thing

  • Finish my Descent 1.5 ruleset

  • Identify poo poo I won't play/paint/want to have on my shelf, sell it

  • Update my boardgame collection with good stuff of types I seldom play (euros etc.) so I have something to play with people of different tastes

  • Get a decent transport/storage system for painted stuff

Alright, following my dismal performance last year, let's try this again:

3. Do the Book Barn reading challenge.
4. Complete one other pet project.

Alright, I messed up real bad this year, I don't think I even made resolutions last year with how messed up I was. Those aren't elfgames problems though, so whatever.

This upcoming year I plan to
  • Write a book. I've had an idea and a skeleton of a story jumping around in my head lately
  • Write a setting, same basic thing, different stuff. Maybe publish.
  • Run/play more games.

2. Finish off the Dungeon World campaign I wrote most of the basic playbooks for.

4. Lose some weight, build some muscles
5. Get out and meet some new people
6. Eat healthier and drink less.

Curses from all directions!
Well, I didn't entirely fail at last year. Let's keep this poo poo going:

1.) Keep on slogging away at Endless Adventures. It almost certainly won't be done in 2017, but any progress is a good thing, and slow and steady wins the race.
2.) Get at least one thing to market.
3.) Continuing to keep the local game going. I haven't yet gotten them off of D&D, but I am getting them to world build.
4.) Not succumb to sadness and disease.

We got crabs? We got crabs!
Overall goal of 2017: Get more miniatures out of the house than I buy. That means either selling/giving away stuff I won't use, or painting them and sending them off to army storage at the club.

Projects:

1) Paint up the napoleonic cavalry that I ordered from Warlord.
2) Paint ALL 28mm vehicles that resided in my house at the start of the year. That's about a dozen German and British North Africa tanks and cars.
3) Finish my new website.
4) Base my 28mm samurai army for FoG.
5) Paint a contingent of 15mm Poles for 30YW.
6) Finish the viking skirmish rules I started working on with some friends.
7) Paint at least some 6mm napoleonics.

non-trad games:
1) Don't fall into the trap of eating tons of fast food and candy now that my work requires a lot more travels and overnight stays in hotels.
2) Don't fall into the trap of not having the time to go to the gym because of reason mentioned above.

2. Launch and deliver a different project I'm working on
3. Donate/get rid of some old books, clothes, and other things I've let pile up
4. Replace the busted furniture I've been putting up with because it "mostly still works"
5. Try more cooking recipes
6. Practice drawing more

My gaming resolutions:

  • Get VGCRPG up into a testable state and also get another RPG up to testing level, probably Children of the Cataclysm or Supergroup. Alternately, finish my World War Hulk writeup for the Marvel Heroic game.
  • Do a PbP or chat game to help test one of the former.
  • Keep my existing Savage Rifts game alive as long as I can.
  • Get all of my currently rough draft F&Fs up onto the forums, that includes posting Rifts World Books 8-11 + 13, Rifts Index & Adventures 1, and Rifts Game Shield and Adventures.

Whether or not you find your own way, you're bound to find some way. If you happen to find my way, please return it, as it was lost years ago. I imagine by now it's quite rusty.
TG Stuff:

Play (and maybe write) more RPGs. I got struck by inspiration to rebuild Sailors & Sea Serpents (my first SA TG contest entry, from years ago) as a Dungeon World campaign, so I'm going to try to run that this year. Gotta get some playbooks together first, though.

Finish the board games I'm working on: Pigment and Seek and Go Hyde are basically done barring art and finding publishers interested, so who knows what'll happen.

Get Tattoo! The Game of Ink back on Kickstarter. We didn't succeed when we tried last August, but with some changes to the model and getting shipping worked out better, I think we can do it.

Non-TG:

Lose 10-15 lbs by June 21st (my birthday). Keep it off by the end of December.

Games related stuff for this year

  • Not let the new campaign I'm about to start DMing go to boring poo poo like my last one. I guess I found out there are limits to just "let the players decide what happens" when none of the people involved have significant D&D experience

Well hell, I never post around here but the end-of-year reveal should make this interesting.

-Hold steady on my gaming commitments- I play RPGs four nights a week and it's been getting in the way of doing just about anything else I want to do.
-Figure out some way to gracefully refuse playing any more RPGs at all - even the biweekly game that ran last year. I just don't have the energy.
-Run my Wednesday night Strike! campaign through to completion, whenever that is.
-Integrate an actual plot into the Star Wars World game I occasionally run for the Saturday group instead of just running whatever one-shot I come up with over the week.
-Post in the cat-piss thread. I've enjoyed the thread enough I should give back.
-Actually make and paint some terrain for my GM's Christmas present next year.

Hello, 2018 me! I really hope you've done at least some of these!
