Been awhile since i posted, going to try and keep this thread up to date. If you have seen my previous threads you will know that I work as a tow truck driver and have a bad habit of buying lovely cars and try to sell them, or if its something that tickles my fancy i might keep it. Anyways, here is a list of my current projects, 1985 AMC Eagle 4.2l wagon (the brown bomber) Got this amazing machine about 4-5 months ago (after having owned a 1983 eagle wagon for several years as a project) found it on craigslist for sale at a automotive welding shop for $300, same price as the non-running rust bucket 83 i bought years earlier. So far the work i have done to it is: Cleaned out the idle jets in the carb nutter bypass swapped the seats and steering wheel from the 83 fixed dash lights, wiper, rear wiper and power lock wiring replaced bald rear end tires ordered new valve cover (plastic one has crack and the plastic one from the 83 is just as bad). replaced trans filter and adjusted bands Still to do: Raise 2'' with spring spacers up front and add a leaf or shackles in the back Install jeep rims and bigger tires tint windows fix horn fix exhaust leak 1988 Corolla FWD This is my first car and shes sitting at 450k km Swapped the engine and trans a few years back after loosing 4th gear ATM i have a 4age motor and trans out of a 91 corolla gts waiting to go in as soon as i have the time and space, still need an efi gas tank for it. 1987 Nissan hard body (noodle body) This bad boy is the definition of poo poo box Currently its sitting at my buddys house growing mold for the last 5 months. Tons of rust, needs new box and frame rust repair, have a KA motor and 5-speed from a newer hardbody waiting to go in, but again, time money and space are what i need to get this poo poo nug back on the road. 1996 Honda Civic All but given up on this one bought this civic knowing it needed to pass a inspection for a broken window and bald tires, took it in for pre-inspection and got back a huge list of issues. Tackled most of the issues, window, tires, ball joints, brakes, brake lines, shifter bushings but when i got to the rear suspension to change out the rubber bushings i broke every bolt that holds it to the body, even the captive bolts that go into pockets in the frame. If anyone wants a civic cheap let me know. My roommates also drive toyotas that i end up doing alot of work on, one is an 88 cressida, swapped to 5 speed, 1 piece drive shaft and lsd, scary to drive in the rain and the other is a 87 celica gts, has lifter tick (found the hosed lifter and cam loab), just replaced the hi pressure power steering hose that involves dropping the cross member and removing the pump to change. Has a fully rebuilt head and cams on the way to fix the lifter tick. Need to get some of these projects on the go to make room for more crap, trying to sell the civic and going to be scraping the 83 eagle after i get what i want off it for the 85, then i will probably buy more crap to fill in the gaps.

spent a few hours outside installing the valve cover. Doing an oil change and replacing the thermostat at the same time. ended up removing the wiper motor for better access to the rear by the firewall. Had to tap a few holes in the head and move a few things around but it got to cold and dark outside and i dropped a bolt and couldn't find it, hoping to finish it up before work tomorrow. The valve cover came with all the hardware including 2 rocker bridges to replace the stock ones that have a threaded bit for the stock plastic cover

I hosed up and bought another truck 1990 f-150 351 2wd long box $200 for a running driving truck i had to buy it, plus with the noodle body down i needed something to haul poo poo with So far from looking around it needs a passenger side valve cover gasket and has a manifold leak on the passenger side and the tires are poo poo, does a good burnout tho. also has dual gas tanks but the front tank don't work, don't think im gonna bother looking into that tho, and the gas pedal flops around, think its just a bushing. And in cressida news my room mate just bought a 85 cressida for $400 that i towed because the front wheel came off and hosed the front end funny enough i got a call to put the spare tire on that cressida about 9 months ago, its still on it (not the one that came off) then sold them a spare set of doors (we got the doors back with the car), just going to part it out, he also bought a freshly rebuild motor\trans from a supra from another guy, lots of work to come. Also found a rebuild head\cams for the 87 celica, and have new springs, struts, top mounts and cv axles to go in. Got the seatbelts for the eagle fixed up, got a co-worker to rewind the clock springs in them, gonna put those in once its above 0 outside. eberbs fucked around with this message at 20:36 on Jan 14, 2017 |

Ordered valve cover gaskets for the ford today and did a burnout https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QzKVNaiBEbM Also the steering seems fairly sloppy, gonna check that out tomorrow, track bar maybe? And this is for sale in my area https://victoria.craigslist.ca/cto/5957741288.html that eagle is loving mint.

Got around to installing the rewound seat belts into the eagle today, the po had a dog and the hair got loving everywhere, the retractors were jammed the gently caress up with hair. Also changed out a heater hose that started to leak.

took my first actual look under the hood of the F150 today and found some issues. nice bare wires looks like the exhaust leak is coming from the egr pipe some homeless death spot bolts on the intake coolant leak and every valve cover bolt was basically falling out, so i tightened them up but to replace them the intake has to come off, so if the leak stops from tightening the bolts ill just leave it for now. Also took a look at the floppy gas pedal, the po wrapped a poo poo ton of electrical tape around the top of the pedal were it hooks to the throttle cable, haven't taken it off to see what fuckery is going on in there. Then used my old sunpro code reader that i have had for years but never had the chance to use it. came back with a egr code (surprise)and fuel pump code (rear tank is disconnected).

Replaced the passenger side door handle today, it was broken when i got the car but came with a few spares so i changed it out but when it got cold the door got iced up and when i hulked out on the handle it broke again. edit: the replacement is the one on the right Oh and looks like im gonna be doing a heater core in the eagle aswell, gently caress my life. After i replaced the thermostat and leaking heater hose it looks like the pressure in the system blew out the core because now i get steam coming out of my vents, and it smells like maple syrup for some reason.

Just got through the worst snow here in 5 years or so, gently caress i hate snow. Worst part of the snow is im still waiting for the heatercore from rockauto for the eagle to show up so i had to run the f150 with chains and it was poo poo. Finally got the civic sold, towed it out to the new owner, he's stripping the engine for his mint civic, i only lost about $500-600 on the sale. Win some lose some i guess. Trying to sell the f150 so i can put that money into the noodle body but i need to figure out the sloppy steering in the 150 before i sell it. And in Cressida news my roommate got a box 2 inspection on it from the cops for tinted windows and loud exhaust, hes got 30 days to get it inspected or its off the road.

Heatercore finally showed up, on the day my insurance runs out. This is gonna be a lovely job for sure. As for the twin I beam slop on the ford, i did a little research and some people have luck adjusting the steering box, but most say its a temp fix and after awhile it gets worse than before. Don't want to sink money or time into the truck so i might try and sell it as is.

Got started with the heater core replacement on the eagle, what a loving pain. It starts Finding tons of rat poo poo and nest stuff but the best part is the chewed wires, likely why my window sprayer, dimmer switch and horn don't work. making progress but still a ways to go. ended up braking some of the brittle plastic on the dash so im going to put the dash from the parts eagle in, its in much better shape.

# ¿ Feb 28, 2017 23:23 |

Got the heater core installed, still a lot to do. Still need to remove the dash from the parts car and switch over the gauge cluster and such but i did quickly fix the wiring that was chewed. Nasty Found the leak

Finished the heatercore and took it for a good drive. no issues. And the window sprayers work plus my turn signals blink at the proper speed after fixing the chewed wiring.

Bit of an update on the Cressida, Moved the replacement motor into the garage using the tow truck. motor swap coming soon. way better than a motor hoist. Also used a deck truck to help my grandpa move some logs And on the Eagle front i noticed the rear pinion seal is leaking badly, from what i read online its easy to physically change but there is some kind of crush washer to watch for and torquing the main nut down can be hard to do correctly. Something to do with drag and resistance, but some guys say just slap it together, tighten it down and cross your fingers.

Also might get help from a co worker who worked in a trans shop for years and has rebuild thousands of diffs.

Eagle update: driving the eagle today and out of nowhere it started making GBS threads out, i think its ignition related, it would lose all power then come back run fine and crap out again until i pulled over and got it towed home. Going to check all the wiring tomorrow, hopefully its just a coil or something.

So today i changed out the ignition control module and added a ground to the ignition system on the eagle. seems to run fine, but ill need to drive it for a bit and have a tow truck on standby. Got the rear pinion seal today and took a peak under the eagle and it looks like the rear seal on the t-case where the rear drive shaft comes out is leaking. I suspect that it was caused by the bad trans mount i replaced months ago.

Started doing the pinion and output shaft seals today. Marked the nut, but by the time i got it off the mark was gone, so that sucks. Things were going fairly smooth untill the cap fell of the u-joint at the t-case end. gently caress. Rather than wasting time picking the needles out of the dirt and swearing for an hour or 2 i decided to just replace it. So to the parts store for a new one $20 for a moog u-joint and $15 a piece for the seals, not too bad. A little hammering and the new one is in. Both yokes Had to go to pig iron and get a $8 power fist seal puller Got the t-case seal out easily New seal is in The pinion seal is being a whore to get out, the seal puller is opening it like a tin can and shes in there good. That will be tomorrows problem, along with trying to get the pre-load right without marks anywhere.

After lots of sweating and throwing tools i got the loving pinion seal out. The fluid that came out of the diff looked like poo poo. The vent tube for the axle was unplugged at the axle for who knows how long and who knows what crap made it into the diff. Oh well I always have a spare. Pounded the new seal in The new seal was not as "deep" as the old one if that makes sense, but every where I looked said that was the right one. Put the pinion nut back on and tightened it down comparing it to the picture i took and eyeballing the threads. Fingers crossed.

I greased her up real good. Gotta get a new grease gun, last one exploded and made a massive mess, gotta hit all the grease nipples on the eagle, hasn't been greased since iv had it so who knows how long its been. Taking it out for a drive tomorrow, fingers crossed i make it back home under its own power.

Drove the eagle today, the seals and pinion seem to be fine, but the engine was cutting out on me again. It was fine most of the day then it started cutting out, let it cool down and it would be fine again. I still think its ignition related but I could be wrong. I checked the coil with a volt meter on resistance and it tested ok, might try changing the pickup in the distributor. Any other suggestions as to what it could be would be appreciated. Its lovely because its fairly intermittent.

yah stock fuel pump. i thought it could be vapor lock, i felt all the fuel lines and they didn't seem hot at all, not sure if that even matters. It will idle for days but when its acting up once you get on the gas it cuts out, lift your foot and it will go back to idling fine.

Drove the eagle around a bit today, didn't act up once. Also helping my roommate replace the struts in his 87 celica gts got the rears back in, fronts will be tomorrows job, he also has new cv axles for the front, might put those in while the struts out.

Got the drivers side cv changed, took a little fighting to get the new one to clip into the trans. Rock auto sent the wrong cv axle for the passenger side, both parts they list for this car are wrong, luckily the local parts store had the right one in stock for 100 canadian pesos. Drivers side seems to be original, boots are cracked but not completely split. The passenger side was a napa axle and the boot is torn wide open. The long axle on top is the napa one that we pulled out and under it in the box is the wrong one that rock auto sent. And the new correct axle. Hoping to finish it all up tomorrow morning, then in a few weeks the new cylinder head and headers are going on.

Doing a little work on the eagle today. Swapping out a bad cv with one from the parts car. The one on the parts car came off relatively easily, although i had to go buy a 36mm socket and some long shank allen bits. But i cant get the loving axle nut off the good eagle. hit it with the impact, used lots of heat and tried a long bar with no success. Im using a mastercrap plug in impact gun so i might try and borrow my neighbors air impact and try that but gently caress its tight.

So my roommate bought a 88 corolla like mine from his friend to drive for a few weeks while we do the head replacement on his celica. He pulled into the driveway with it last night with billows of white smoke coming out of the tail pipe. I just thought to myself the head gasket is hosed. Not 10 minutes later he leaves to go get it insured, makes it half a block and it overheats. Let it sit over night and i took a look at it this morning to confirm my worst fears. Out of coolant, Check Water under the oil cap, Check Oil over full and watery, Check Engine stone cold crank, blows exhaust gases out rad cap, Check Cold crank HG failure Cold Start hosed Head gasket And it still pushes white smoke like a mofo. Did a compression test and got 130 150 160 150, not near as bad as i thought but shes still dicked. Best part is the "friend" who sold it to my roommate has denied that it ever overheated or had any issues and is basically loving him hard. Looks like shes headed for the scrapper.

Its been a productive few days, Took the blown head gasket corolla to scrap along with a friends caravan with a snapped cv joint. Scrap Corolla Only things worth saving was the tires and battery. Also got my roommates parts cressida to the house and stripped off what we needed. Couldn't get to the bolts for the doors because of it being in the drive way and not being able to open the doors all the way so we did a little body work. Also have a line on another nissan truck to replace the noodle body, will keep you updated.

Picked up another hardbody today. 91 2wd 5-speed KA motor, single cab. Got it for $500 and it needs a poo poo ton of work. Picked it up from a friend of a friend and he had removed the front fenders and stripped the interior so i had to reinstall the fenders before i could drive it home. Some numpty fabracobbled and welded some seat brackets to fit different seats in the truck but the seats suck rear end and sit way to high so i cut out the poo poo and installed the stock seats from the original noodle body. Head lights didn't work but after looking at the plugs to the head light the problem was obvious snipped and spliced the connectors form the noodle. removed what was left of the muffler. Tons more to do including swapping both bumpers both doors, rear window and grill from the noodle, lowing it 2 inches and painting it matte black. Going to work on it all day tomorrow due to the fact it is going to be the dd because the f-150 is sold to my neighbor who is storing the noodle and cressida for us.
