Innovate and disrupt are two of the stupidest words that are thrown around Borders and RadioShack didn't fail because they weren't innovative, they failed because they absolutely refused to shift their strategy (or pivot, another dumb buzzword) to something that met their customers demands

So how do truck tires work compared to car tires? Are there summer v winter tires, or is it all All-Season? What are good tires to get? What if my penis is small and I want to let the world know?

If I could afford one of those big fuckoff turbo diesel trucks I would get one simply because I'd have more than enough power for whatever I want to do and it will also survive longer than 6 or 7 Subarus would Of course all the coal idiots ruined them and then cranked the prices to insanity for a 10 y/o truck with 300,000 miles on it

I paid my student loans off recently thanks to my mum. She always felt awful that I had a massive student loan and she wasn't able to help, and one of our last conversations was about how she was at least glad that she'd be able to take care of that when she passed and she was glad that I wouldn't be paying $3000/month for 2 years to pay them off on my own It's bittersweet

Somewhat Heroic posted:Genuinely good thing by your mum and good for you on being responsible. That is a huge kick start on making the life of your family into a prosperous one. That is truly a great way to honor your mum. yeah it's loving insane how huge of a kickstart this is for us. suddenly we can pay double payments on our mortgage and have a fully funded emergency fund. we've never been able to spend money without thinking "hmm it's this or some groceries which is more important" so it's going to be a whole new world for us it's such a huge blessing i can't even begin to describe it

BraveUlysses posted:double payments might be going a bit overboard, you might just be better off saving most of that money or starting to contribute more of your pretax wages to a 401k, especially if your employer offers matching contributions and you aren't already taking them. Yeah that's probably a good idea. I'm gonna calculate how much a 15y mortgage would be per month then just pay that instead since paying off the house is the last debt good ole Dave Ramsey says to do

If there is, you may want to look into refinancing, and compare the refi cost to the early payoff. Yeah and there is no early repayment penalty so I technically could have dumped the money into that instead, but my mortgage is a 3.25% rate with 3% APR and my student loans are 8%

Adiabatic posted:Unless you and your wife's household income is enough to qualify for the alternative minimum tax, I would definitely use the money for investment instead of paying down your mortgage. With the mortgage interest tax deduction and 3.25% APR, you'll see way better returns. Obviously past performance /= future gains etc etc but index funds will put you in a waaaaay better position given a normal steady rise in the market, even if you only realize your mortgage interest of 3.25%/yr. eh idk, i'm not sure if that tax benefit is better than freeing up $1500/month to put into a mutual fund that will on average give me a 12% return. I should probably go see an accountant or financial adviser of some sort

Yu-Gi-Ho! posted:QFT. If you're doing decent enough that you're worrying about tax benefits vs paying stuff off, you need a good CPA and a financial advisor. Those can be the same person (sometimes), they could be different people (recommended). But you need someone familiar with your local laws. Yeah exactly that. My brother is pretty lucky because he didnt have student loans (because he got an internship that paid a shitload of money) so he is planning on tossing a good chunk of it into different mutual funds for the next 40 years the number the calculators spat out after 40 years of returns and adding $x/month was

Yu-Gi-Ho! posted:I'm nowhere near TT's position financially (and won't be for a long time), but I'm genuinely curious how you find a good local advisor and CPA. dave ramsey has a site that lists people in areas that he personally backs (ie they have "the heart of a teacher and will go over everything with you" etc), which is what I was going to try out. Otherwise yeah here in detroit there seems to be a small run down building with NAMEY MCNAMENSTEIN, CPA on just about every corner
