I may want to have a Chikarathon at some point in the near future to catch up with all the nonsense, but I'd prefer having some heads up into what I'm jumping into.

If they're doing the shows anyways, then this is probably a pretty good deal for them. They get to piece together these unofficial shows into something that looks good, get to do a massive amount of storytelling in between and give another reason for people to buy the streaming service. This is one time where Quack's weirdness doesn't sound like another weird money sink.
