The level's theme seems to be "how not to do hard precision jumping".

Dr. Fetus posted:And a lot of those levels just don't seem coherent. Some of them look like they're trying to do too much at once and it just ends up a mess. On the other hand, I really look forward to the return to the lava level which deserves to be there just for the concept of it.

Blaze Dragon posted:Also that coins level had a really cool gimmick and I can imagine how weird it must be to avoid coins. It's like its turning your Mario instincts, honed for decades, against you. Mak0rz posted:Some indie developer made a platformer based entirely around that premise. It was called Dangerous Dan or something? I can't seem to find it.

I liked watching these two levels. The first one for trying to figure out the puzzle myself (but of course I don't know enough to solve it; I didn't realize you could use yellow Yoshi's stomp to bump the shell like that) and the second one for the sheer weirdness of it.

FPzero posted:Once again, my explanations go on way longer than I ever intend them to but hopefully you and others found it interesting. I know so much about this game from years of being involved with the community so it's interesting to get to explain what we know as basic concepts to people with little to no background on the subject.

Seriously, I agree: gently caress that! Would it be possible to kill the paratroopa under the platform (you know the one) with a shell in Yoshi's mouth or does spitting it out drop you, too? The only interesting thing about that level is the combination of red and green paratroopers. You could probably made some sort of shmup-style gameplay out of that. (It's me, I'm the bad ideas haver.)

Dr. Fetus posted:It could work, but obviously the first thing that would have to happen is that you would need to be able to see what's going on in that level.

Rabbi Raccoon posted:My favorite part is the underwater moon. It is very gorgeous, uses its gimmicks well and doesn't wear out its welcome. The first level won points with me because it wouldn't feel too out of place in Super Mario World difficulty- and design-wise.

That ghost ship looks really, really good (except for some very minor ugliness on some upscaled background textures).

I just finished my first randomized run and it's been one hell of a ride. I thought I got stuck and was confused since I thought the randomizer logic prevented this, but it turns out I just forgot that there's a part of the Tower of Hera basement you don't need a key for. I don't know how I forgot and missed that stairway right next to the entrance all three times I entered the tower. Then I started a second run, went into the tower and then I finally noticed the door. What really amazes me is the amount of effort that went into details such as adjusting the captions in the "where are they now" credits sequence.

This. Seed. Well, I hope the mirror will finally lead me to the keys I'm missing. That's what I get for feeling cocky for stumbling into the red and blue medallions more or less by accident.

I'm at a point where naming my character FUFP seem absolutely justified. e: Yeah, remembering stuff is great! Such as the ledge with a key you can hookshot to in Swamp Palace's Big Chest room. That would have saved me literal hours of searching around for anything I could have missed elsewhere. FUFF would have been more appropriate. e2: It is done. frankenfreak fucked around with this message at 06:18 on Mar 2, 2018 |

tiistai posted:Blind's patterns are deterministic, so with a little practice you can get him to do the same thing every time. Just look at how good runners do it. I still decided to loosen up my definition of "almost minimal" run further and incorporated some minor detours for additional hearts and upgrades into my route (probably for the better because the hokkubokkus and Eye Bridge in Turtle Rock would have been even more impossible for me). Even with having to iron out some kinks in the route on the fly, I knocked down the time to 2:22:37.18 with 81/216 item collection and 16 or 18 game overs (courtesy of Lanmolas, Blind, a hokkubokku and Eye Bridge).
