Barbarian (2022) What a solid, fast paced, funny and hosed up horror movie. I didn't anticipate any of the twists and turns and was quite pleased with it all in all. Definitely a good watch for fans of the genre. 5/5 edit: just learned that the director and writer is one of the Whitest Kids U Know guys! The Boy and The Heron (in English) 10/10, the pinnacle of Miyazaki's illustrious catalogue. I cut my teeth on Nausicaa and Porco Rosso as a child, was deeply affected by Mononoke and Spirited Away, watched Ponyo a dozen times with my daughter soaking up every little detail alongside her. So much of this film was an evolution of moments and themes from his other works. It's a modern fairy tale with dream logic, stunning and colourful animated fantasy worlds and a very moving story that both made me laugh and brought tears to my eyes.
