All I'm aware of uniform-wise is the stupid woodlands everywhere everyday thing, and the situation with FROGs is pretty ridiculous at this point. edit: oh chicks are probably getting new dress blues blouses so they have the same collar but that's a ways off

The contract to get more FROG ended a while back and there hasn't been a new one, so now you don't get any until you're working up for a deployment, and then you have to give it back so somebody else can use your old pants.

Also if you read One Bullet Away by Captain Fick a solid chunk of it is his point of view of the the events in Generation Kill and also simultaneously describes why he got out of the Marine Corps as fast as he could after getting back from that deployment. Maybe not everybody can relate with the mess that the Iraq invasion was right from the start, but the reasons behind him wanting out are pretty universal.

Ortho told me today one of the biggest factors in whether he recommends me for hip surgery is how much I want to stay in. He said otherwise getting out and letting the injury heal on its own is usually more pleasant. So of course I went full retard and said "yes please recommend me I'm trying to reenlist".

I dunno, people are probably going to be pretty honest when the choices are "get med-sepped and then decide for yourself if you want a (covered by the VA) surgery a few years down the road" and "get a surgery from navy med and maybe be able to reenlist". Labrum damage is pretty sucky, and I probably have it in my other hip, but not as bad. I'm going to try to hold off on that one though because I've been having a hard enough time getting the worse one taken care of.

America has this culture of medical brinkmanship because getting basic healthcare can easily bankrupt you, but that should never be an issue for anybody with tricare or VA benefits. If there's something wrong with you, get help from a professional. Anybody that hassles you for that isn't worth paying attention to.

In that vein, somebody mentioned a while ago that they were impressed by the quality of mental health in 29, and I can confirm that they're still excellent. Sometimes there's a great dane service dog in the waiting room. I'm comparing my experiences with them with my experiences with the rest of Navy Med, though, and in that regard I've been off of full duty for an entire year and I still have to get a second CT scan of my hip before they'll decide if they're going to give me the labrum repair surgery that I need if I want my hip joint to stay in the socket when I walk.

Considering looking in to seeing if the Army is accepting prior-enlisted in my field, but it's going to depend on whether I have a working hip or not.

I have a cam deformity in my right hip and probably also my left, so the head of my femur isn't perfectly round. Whenever I flex my hips the soft tissue holding the joint together gets squeezed and has started getting torn up. If I don't get treatment for it, it'll eventually lead to osteoarthritis, and even with a repair surgery now I'll probably need one or both of my hips replaced before my 30s are over, depending on my lifestyle. The way it presents now, I have limited range of motion, and if I run for more than a half mile or so it starts aching pretty badly. When I do squats there's a sharp pain in the joint if I go below parallel (the only way to do it, I'm a man of principal). Also if I have a pack on my hip pops mid-stride, and a couple of times a day I have to pop the joint like a giant knuckle. I had a friend who had a similar issue and got the same surgery I need, and they're on the 15 MEU now so recovery can be pretty close to full function. I just need them to actually get around to approving it.

Light duty in October, limdu in April, MRI in April, first appointment with ortho surgeon in June, first appointment with hip specialist surgeon in September, CT scan done here in September but it was the wrong kind of scan so I have to go to Balboa for another one this week, and then the surgeon will decide if he’s going to operate.

0231s are the guys you think of when you hear intel analyst. They compile a lot of Secret level stuff into briefs and reports and whatnot. Sometimes they’ll work with TS stuff at the high side but that’s usually stuff the collectors work with instead. Promotions are fast but I dunno what kind of civilian jobs there are. You’ll have a TS so that’ll help, but the NSA won’t want you, the CIA or FBI might I dunno. 0241s are imagery analysts so you’ll spend a lot of time watching drone footage and satellite imagery.
