Kind of looks like the same aesthetic as the previous metal human team. Wonder if the sculpt has been kicking around since then.

They nailed the Mordheim aesthetic and that is about it. Hopefully the mobile version will be better, at least it looks to be using a grid system.

I got burnt at launch. Should really go back and check it out now that it is patched. Probably just bitter that they didn't do an xcom clone.

No information on it yet, but supposedly it's launching with a full organised play system in place and is supposedly designed to be more competitive. Hints at some spoilers of new models over the next few days.

From the Mortal Realms. I was really hoping they might keep any Mordheim reboot in the Old World. I knew they wouldn't but I was hoping.

-1 to hit dual wielding, shields give you a 6+ parry save like in WFB 6ed. Cheaper armour to encourage buying it. Accept that it will still be imbalanced and have a fun time.

Wow I guess I should have expected 90's grog rules. I thought the low model count might have kept it a little more simple. Quite a few 3D printable fleets available though, pretty cheap entry point other than getting/printing the cards and templates.

I have given up on obtaining all the Man O War rules off ebay and have started collating the 3 rulebooks into a single file, and the extra WD and Citadel Journal articles into a 'Annual' style book like the Warmaster and Mordheim ones. It's a bit of a slog fixing up old yellowed scans, but I'm kinda enjoying idea of preserving something from 1993.

I'll post it here when I'm done.

I still think your underselling it.

The steep learning curve is basically a cliff if your are playing with experienced players. Some people will love that and push past it and I can see that payoff over the horizon. I played my first two leagues of BB this year and after losing pretty much every single game, reading a bucket of online strategy guides, and then working out I would have to sink a whole heap of time into getting anywhere near competitive at the game personally turned me off it.

Still neat to think about playing it though.

So. I bought dreadfleet in like, 2012. Painted it and it’s kind of just been around. Due to covid I had finally broken it out with some people that are basically the only ones I see.....

I know people said it was a bit poo poo but gently caress me it IS a bit poo poo. I remember me as a young lad graduating university thinking it sounded so cool, how did they gently caress this up

Edit: for positivity’s sake is there a way of making it suck less or are these just cool models that shall Adorned the home office now?

quote:

Reviews of Dreadfleet in 2011 were mixed. Although there is no official statement, it is rumored that, due to poor sales, Games Workshop recalled all copies of the game from their Australian stores and destroyed them. The game is no longer offered for sale on the Games Workshop site, and all articles related to it are no longer available.

In 2016 Shahady Gaming created a modified rule set to attempt to “resurrect” the visually epic yet tactically disappointing game. Starting with a open source rules summary developed by Universal Head (https://www.universalhead.com), Shahady gaming revamped rules that the gaming community had reviewed as weaknesses in Dreadfleet’s playability. Three major weaknesses were identified:

1: Because play alternated between players the impact of initiative (determined by die role) had too significant role in the outcome of engagements.
2: Alternating actions was seen as creating a more unrealistic battlefield environment as opposed to a more simultaneous approach to vessel actions.
3: The fate cards, while interesting from a storyline perspective, added far too much dramatic changes in the play framework.

The revamping was therefore primarily focused on eliminating initiative, adding simultaneous vessel actions, and removing fate from the game. In addition, these areas were improved by implementing several rules from the previously successful games Man-o-war (Games Workshop, 1993) and Wooden Ships and Iron Men (Avalon Hill, 1975).

In 2016, the revised rule set titled “Dreadfleet Resurrected v1.0” was posted on open source gaming sites for use, testing, and suggested revisions.
