Kill Team question: How bad are the compendium teams compared to standalone release teams, really? I saw on that most recent community post that the overall Compendium win rate is only 40%, which is quite bad, but it's hard to tell if all the compendium choices are equally lovely or if some particularly bad ones are just pulling down those numbers. I'm going to pick up some Kroot when they get their own release, but in the meantime it would be cool to throw together a team out of models I already have and not get stomped at my local league. Could something like the Intercession Squad or Death Guard teams reasonably hang in there against more meta options? No idea what local players are running but based on which teams are the most popular I'm guessing stuff like Legionaries and Novitiates will be in the mix.

Intercession squad is not really compedium team any more and they are good enoug to hang with the big boys. In polish nationals guy with tyranid compedium team ended up 9 place (out of 53). Death guard is decentish. I mean novitiates/pathfinders will likely pound you but they kind of opressive teams anyway.

Custodes and chaos demons should be fine. Grey knights look kinda ech.

Btw this was our top 8 (they still did not publish full standings for all players). I'm surpraised mostly at only 1 pathfinder team and no novitiates

I hope so. I'm playing VG in a narrative league with friends, and I keep getting rolled. To be fair, I've only played two games ever.

At least I finally got my models in, and I can stop borrowing my friend's VG.

From my limited (2 months of playing) experience veteran guardsmen can be crazy strong but they are probably least "smooth brain" factionin the game so they do require a lot from the pilot

Overall, being aggressive seems to be key to guard. You want to claim objectives early and start scoring (it also helps with your tac ops from security archetype). And people start to panic when psycho with meltagun is suddenly in their face

Are they tho? Because if they make mistake and guard player manages to trade evenly with them they are done for. With 6 dudes you have to be conservative with your dudes - seen this playing as admech against them. If you manage to po 1-2 dudes early on they are kinda stuck.

VetGuard are really good at focus fire and synergizing. They have a lot of bodies and a few ploys that lean hard into the synergy piece. As Silvola said, they're very chessy and surprisingly forgiving, considering a stiff breeze will kill a VetGuard and out damage their lasguns, as well

Forgiving is the last word I would use describing veteran guard.

Competitive Kill Team question - do you *have* to bring a full roster to tournaments? Working on my Legionaries and it kinda seems like you'd really never have a reason to bring much beyond what comes in the box since they just seem strictly superior to the alternatives.

You don't have to bring anything outside of single team. I mean you do have to at least one legit KT in your rooster but you don't have to bring 20 dudes

Yeah they are good - more straightforward than phobos team but also easier to play

At my lgs half of those fancy kickstarter boardgames cost more than box of into the dark and most of the is cardboard. I know apples and oranges but I think I will keep on breaching in KT.

Also maybe WHU would be more the speed of boardgame crowd?

Another alternative is using any box with magnetic sheet glued to the bottom - for example https://www.amazon.com/Magnetic-Sheets-Adhesive-Backing-Flexible/dp/B07V5WGK3R

This might be an overkill for KT tho. I use metal cookie boxes for my teams

Got my Kill Team starter box! so hyped to start building and playing!

By the time I explore the game and see if I like it they should announce Soulshackle so by then I'll have figured out where to expand from there.

the question is now how to build my Krieg Veteran squad, what weapons are best, etc. any tips or advice?

is the grenade launcher good? does it ignore cover?

You build all the special weapons, sniper, meedic, comms and spotter. Sergant gets power weapon and plasma pistol. You want to field 10 speicialists+ 4 normal dudes.

Grenades from launcher do not ignore cover but you will pop kraks 80% of the time anyway

Hey guys, finally built my kill teams, I'll be playtesting the game over the next week and see how I like it, will report back with impressions I have, if I do enjoy it I'm gonna double team Into the dark and Soulshackle for sure. Once the paints arrive I'll showcase them in the painting thread.

In other news, I tried the videogame version of Warhammer AoS underworlds, I was really surprised how much I really enjoyed the game! it's fast, action packed, easy to learn, a fun deck building and melee combat game, and it's perfect as a more casual game to play along side the more involved 'Kill Team' experience.

I am absolutely going to pick up the game! however, because I'll have to ship it across the globe, I would like add some decks and teams on top of the 'gnarlwood' box so that I can have a good collection of stuff and options to last a while.

What other teams/decks/accessories do you reccomend?

From what I'm looking around casually, the teams that caught my eye are the Vampires, Lizardmen Pirate ogre and the sigmar marines, Sadly the Minotaur Elves seem to be completely gone online which is sad because it's by far my favourite looking group from AoS in general other than goblins. oooh the snake people and fish elves look really cool too!

thanks!

Teams are evenly matched for the most part so just pick with ever you like - imho if you like the teams its worth just getting 2 different boxed sets since you might also want additional game boards. Also get card sleeves for your stuff - single box of ultra pro or dragon shields should serve you right (100 sleeve pack)

Malifaux also has an absolutely top notch free app and is the best skirmish game I’ve ever played. Plus it’s got actually sensitive depictions of a wide variety of Earth cultures, though I’ll admit that’s a sliding scale - the old first edition holdovers are kind of cringey in places while the newer models are a LOT better.

They did scale back on a cheescake so thats good at least

My biggest issue with malifaux is that apart from game rules every mini does a 1000 things. Itsl ike playing vet guard in kt on steroids and you have to be really invested to know what opponents minis do. Still I enjoy it way more than infinity
