EDIT: Also, if people want to type up any of their own reviews for the games, post in the thread and I'll link to the post under the game's information.

No Epic in the OP? You cad.

I'll see if I can get something together for that, and possibly a few other games.

As for Space Hulk, at least I don't need to worry about updating my stuff, didn't realize it had digital expansions and all, that's kind of neat, but I barely get to play it as is right now that they aren't worth the expense for me, since they are fully digital and don't add models or tiles.
They don't add physical models, but there are a couple of Terminator types available (Cyclones, etc.) Plus, you can play as Ultras, SWs, or DAs - the expansions are geared to existing collections in that they use Terminators from one of the base sets (DV, AoBR, or a box of Termies) and one of the retail boxes (Wolf Guard, DA Command, SM Terminators).

What is lame is that GW only put them out on iOS, so unless you have an Apple device, you are forced to seek alternate delivery systems.

Speaking of Forbidden Stars, out of curiosity, I can get a copy for $60. I know the game is now OOP, and will only likely go up from there, but is it worth it?

EDIT: Amazon prices on all of the FFG stuff is pretty good, considering they are OOP. Get them before they are gone!:
Space Hulk: Death Angel is $17.50 (37% off)
Relic is $35.80 (40% off)
Warhammer Quest Card Game is $28.95 (28% off)
Warhammer Diskwars Core is $22.95 (43% off)

and the phenomenal deal of the day:
Warhammer Diskwars Core for the low, low price of $563 + $10 shipping (1400% markup!)

In Warmaster, should I take the rulebook rules or the army book rules? For instance, the Empire Hellblaster Volley Gun has different rules in the main Living Rulebook (6-3-1 firing, a different misfire table) than in the Army List section (8-4-2, different misfire table).

On a different note, is the Hail of Stones spell from the High Elves just awful? 6+ to cast and causes 1d3 attacks, so probably 1 hit per enemy unit and doesn't drive back

Use the Warmaster Armies book or the Army Selector lists. They are the updated versions.

As for magic, yeah, WM is not a game of Wizards or special characters. Very few spells really do much of anything worthwhile.

Whew.

After years of contemplating on whether or not I wanted to rebase the Marines, I finally broke down and removed the Space Hulk models from the sprues. I really think GW dropped the ball regarding the Terminator basing, but I think I'll just deal with the lack of detail and leave them as-is.

I like that foam core, did you make it or is it sold somewhere?
As SRM stated, it's the Battlefoam SH set. There is another layer for the boards that is available (though you can purchase the layers separately), but I haven't punched them out yet. It's a good solution for minis that are only ever going to be used with this game. It keeps everything self contained, while still protecting the models.

I had my first game of Blood Bowl in about a century this weekend - hot Orc on Orc action. It didn't start off well, as I wound up burning three rerolls quickly, and my opponent scored twice on me, one time due to me causing an immediate turnover right after a kickoff. He just picked up the ball and got a touchdown.

The second half went better for me though - I killed two opposing players and scored twice, ending the game in a tie. This was an exhibition game, so there were no lasting effects to the players.

Also, I declared myself commissioner for our group and figure we'll do an annual tourney with no league requirements, as it's too hard to get our group together for anything regular. Now I just need to do some research on one-off BB tourneys...

I just finished clipping all of my BB Skaven from the sprue, and didn't have a problem with a single tail breaking. I saw some complaints regarding the tails snapping when people were taking the models off the sprue, but apparently, they were using butter knives to do the job. Using my clippers, I was able to pop them right of with no problem.

Of course, transporting will be a different story, as those tails are spindly as all hell, especially the thrower. I fully imagine that, at some point, I will have a transport tray full of tiny tail ends.

While it looks pretty good, god drat that pricing is absurd. £18 can almost get you a full team of regular players.

FW need to stop buying into their own hype, resin is not the 'premium' material is was once seen as and certainly isn't worth paying a large markup for the inevitable issues of having to get replacement parts or bending bits back into the right shape due to FW's lousy QC.

It's probably less the material and more the labor involved. Resin takes time to pour, cure, and dry, much more so than metal or plastics.

But yeah, they are still overpriced.

Leperflesh posted:

One more thing to note: "finecast" was an innovation to permit GW to use molds made for pewter models, to produce resin models. That allowed them to use a cheaper material than the tin-based pewter without having to recreate their molds.
I thought the same thing until I saw some Finecast still on the sprue (Settra, to be precise). Having done my own metal centrifugal casting, there is no way they could have recut a metal mold to add the sprue sections they needed in that layout. I'm not sure what GW did, but they sure did not repurpose the old metal molds,

As an aside, the rubber you'd use for a resin casting is very different than that which you'd use for metal. A metal mold is a hard, vulcanized rubber, similar to what you'd find with an automobile tire. Resin molds, on the other hand, are much softer, and have a lot more give when removing a fragile resin model.

Yeah, they're fine, but they are touching the ground. I think the problem is that GW tends to pose their floating/jumping models in a weird, splayed leg position that just looks like they took a standard CAD pose and stuck a rod through the bottom to support it. I think the new Avatar model looks pretty good in the pose because they used the leg to actually look like it's the supporting structure of the figure (though I think it's really that swirly thing.)

The scale difference itself shouldn't be a major issue, though anything larger than Epic troops were incorrectly scaled. All of the titans are now going to be one class larger in size (Knights > Warhounds > Reavers > Warlords > Imperators) and while I don't think it will be a big issue regarding ranges and movement, it might come into play if there are LOS rules.
