Wait there is a new Warhammer Quest?? Oh poo poo. Is it any good?

Also I didn't realize Space Hulk got a second reprint. Did they make any errata changes?

Most of my experience with Warhammer Quest has been with the iOS app, so I mean, I'm kind of used to the older rule set already. I mean, if I want to go way back I was used to Hero Quest as a kid :v:

Sad to hear it has so little rooms though. That could be really frustrating to have the same room show up multiple times in one dungeon crawl.

As for Space Hulk, at least I don't need to worry about updating my stuff, didn't realize it had digital expansions and all, that's kind of neat, but I barely get to play it as is right now that they aren't worth the expense for me, since they are fully digital and don't add models or tiles.

I have been fascinated by Blood Bowl for years, first attempting it on the PSP. I later bought the first game on Steam, but I can't seem to find a good tutorial. It always seemed like I just try and run the ball, but got hosed every time. Is there a good primer outside of just loading up the PDF and reading up on every rule?

BBTactics.com has some very good articles and specific guides for each team and their players. It's probably the step beyond what you need however.

Which teams did you try? Certain teams are very much more suited to beginners. Humans and Orcs are the ones included in the boxed game for a reason, with both having strong features.

Orcs are the simpler of the two, with a playstyle that prefers grabbing and holding the ball while grinding up the pitch. If you try much fancy stuff like passing with them you're gonna have a bad time. Humans can have a go at all of the play styles depending on their opponents, but they aren't too well specialised from the outset for any of them.

Where a D6 roll is required for an action, the game gives you a probability of success. A general rule of thumb is to try to do you risk free and low-risk actions first in your turn so that if you fail on a trickier action you don't get a turnover before you have a chance for the rest of your team to do something.

I was trying humans, and just got facerolled by the AI. I literally just re-installed and did the tutorial again for the "Legendary" Edition of the first release on Steam. I think I'll try it again as the Orks just due to the tanky nature of them. It's kind of how I felt I wanted to play the game anyway.

The rules aren't that bad, the hard part is learning the risk management. The rare fringe-case interactions don't come up that often unless someone is playing bizarro mutant chaos or vampires. Orcs are a traditionally good option.

As ever, playing with people who know what they're doing and asking questions is generally the best way. There's quite a lot of video out there of games talked over by people of varying quality. There's also been a few lets plays done on the forums, cKnoor, GnuOrder and I think a tournament style one (or was that fumbbl?) that are probably still hosted somewhere.

I think watching a well commented let's play would actually be very helpful, I'll see if I can find any of these.

Steam sale:

Blood Bowl LE is on sale for $3.99. Chaos Edition is $5.99. BB 2 is $9.99.

Mordheim is $9.99.

BFG Armada is $11.99.

I already own BB LE, but I am curious if Chaos or BB 2 are worthwhile for someone coming into the game?

At $10 it's not that big of a jump if it's got a better interface and is more likely to find games.

One of the LE downsides is that the DLC is only on a 10% off sale, so it's $40.50 right now. The "Official Expansion" is priced at $22, so half of the bundle price is wrapped up in that. I'm not sure if this ever goes lower than 10% off, or if there might be a better deal in the future. The DLC team pack is $16.88 (70% off) so that's a pretty good deal.

I mean you can always get a good discount going through goons to buy Steam stuff like Captain Invictus. He has a steam sale thread where he'll convert is less volatile Steam Bux into discounted games for your real bux.
