 Karl Marlantes' book What It Is Like To Go To War talks a lot about the author's journey of unpacking all of that and introduces a lot of useful language for talking about these things that didn't have names. Reading someone's similar experiences might help him get to a place where he's ready to share, as said don't necessarily expect it to be with you though.
